A Cut Above Engravers

HORRENDOUS. NEW OWNER IS INDIFFERENT. I have NEVER had a worse customer service experience in my life. Dropped off 2 mother of pearl ($$$$) knives to be hand engraved for my sister and I for Christmas. Owner told me that her hand-​engraver told to her not accept any more Christmas orders, but that she would call him and then call me before she would do anything to let me know what options were available. I am a craftswoman and repeatedly told her that I wanted nothing other than hand-​engraving. 2 Weeks went by with no contact, so I called & was surprised when she told me that my knives were ready. Arrived to find (to my horror) that she had gone ahead and laser engraved my knives without consulting me. She remembered who I was when I walked in the door, yet DENIED the conversation we’d had when I dropped it off, constantly saying «Well, it’s not written down on this piece of paper» and «You just want something for nothing» in an eerily paranoid manner. Worst of all, she wouldn’t let me have the knives back without paying her $ 80 for the INCORRECT, DESTRUCTIVE engraving!!! The owner didn’t care at all about my knives, my order or my issues. I was so furious that I even called her after I’d left to ask her to refund my money and she just yelled and yelled on the phone so I just hung up. CHRISTMAS RUINED!!! I’m considering billing her for the price of the knives.
My blood pressure rises when I drive by this place now.
I came to Unilocal to find an engraver… DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID! THIS PLACE WILL RUIN YOUR TREASURES.

Wow, under new local ownership this place got it right and fast. I needed 25 trophies engraved ASAP and it was done to my specific request. Keep it local and get your work done here. The new owner took her time to give me many options and the kids loved their special trophies. Thanks for making a special occasion even better.

Absolutely horrible experience here. Dropped off a fantasy football trophy to be engraved (very simple) in mid-​January. Was told I would have it back in 10 days and it would «be about $ 20 or so». Okay, drop it off and thought all was well. I call back 2 weeks later and she says she had medical issues, but would get to it right away. That’s fine, medical issues happen. Two more weeks go by, I call back and she says she promises she’ll start on it that week and have it to me in a few days. Another week goes by, she calls me this time to tell me she engraved it, but completely messed up what I wanted to engrave. She offers to replace the plate and re-​engrave it for me, but she had to get a part from some friend who was traveling but would be home in a week. Weeks go by, finally I call her back and she says she has the new plate engraved, but she messed up the screw holes and wasn’t sure they’d line up. She asked me to bring the entire trophy (she just had one plate) by and she can make it look right. I drop the trophy off and three weeks later, I get a call that it is done. I just picked it up today. I was expecting, given how much trouble she had with it, not to be charged… or if anything $ 5-​$ 10. She admitted everything was her fault and that I did nothing wrong but she «had to cover her costs» and charged me $ 26.
4 months, multiple calls from me checking on it, wasted time on a trip back to drop the trophy off… and she ended up charging more than she originally quoted.
Next year, I’ll definitely take it elsewhere… I suggest you do as well.

Small little business owned and operated by one lady. I guess having been in the engraving business since 1978, she must be pretty good. Well, I was totally wrong.
My order was simple and nothing out of the ordinary: Two nameplates engraved for a paperweight from my school to give as graduations gifts to my mentors. I left the paperweight so she can match the sizing to fit on to the side of the item. I was told that it would take 3 weeks to complete, which I figured if it took 3 weeks, then these nameplates must be done right! I called 3 weeks later for her to tell me that she had been sick and overwhelmed with orders… basically, they were not complete. However, she called the next day to state that the items were ready for pickup.
Now the fun begins: I went in to pick up the items to notice that they do not even fit on the paperweights. The nameplates extends pass the top and bottom, which I brought that up for her to tell me that it cant be cut perfectly because of the cutting machine she uses. She brings it to the back to cut it several times, but is unsuccessful.
The nameplates were uneven and done very unprofessionally. There was no reason for it to take 3 weeks to complete. She did seem overwhelmed, which is probably why she had an attitude. Ultimately, I did not purchase the nameplates because there was no way that I was going to give a chopped up item to my mentors.
As I am leaving, I was the one to say «Thank you» as she threw the nameplates away and proceeded to talk on the phone.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! pay a little more and get it done right at Things Remembered…
Cash and check only!!! Was charging $ 12.50 for each nameplate.

It is the only place in town that I would trust with my heirloom jewelry, and I have never regretted the day I followed my previous «engraver’s» car to this place and saw him drop off my stuff.
Easy to find, wonderful people, and top quality work, we need more places like this in our lives.

This is a little house on the corner of 11^th street and Heights Blvd. I wanted to get a pen engraved with my name. I had driven by A Cut Above and deiced to try it out.
I was welcomed by Scharlotte. She was very friendly and eager to help out. She was honest about how long it would take to have the pen ready. She has a great business and values customers.
I will get everything from here on out engraved by A Cut Above.
