A & O Lamp Co

Once again, A&O comes to my rescue. Marbella assisted by showing me my ceiling fan remote also dimmed the light. I thought there was something wrong with the fan & light. Duh! Thanks, A&O!

Very beautiful lighting store that carries some lamp parts too. The owner is very knowledgable and caring, and goes the extra mile to help with your lighting needs. High end lighting with sale priced lighting too.

We are remodeling and need new lighting, so we stopped by A & O… mistake. The young woman at the front was very nice, but the owner was a jerk. He may have thought he was coming across as funny but he comes across incredibly rude. We had legitimate questions that he couldn’t answer and had to defer to the young woman who worked there. I was trying to show him a photo of the room where we needed the lighting and he completely ignored me. Don’t waste your time or money here.

One night before a convention began, I broke a key bulb in out booth while setting up. Not a big deal, until I learned this was no standard bulb. I frantically messaged approximately 5 – 6 lighting companies that night (well after store hours) and only one person responded. Steve, at A&O. My gig was to begin at 9am the next morning, and despite Steve’s shop not opening until 10am, he met me there early at 8:30 with a smile, for a $ 7 bulb. This guy earned a life-​customer out of me. Of the 5 – 6 other stores I messaged in the area (including Bellaire, Upper Kirby and River Oaks), only 1 more responded to me but that wasn’t until Monday. We had a successful booth showing at the convention, thanks to Steve’s above and beyond customer service.

Very friendly staff. Took a lamp to get cord replaced and they did it right there and then. Reasonably priced. Will definitely return.

I need new lamp shades for expensive lamps. Yes, I can buy a shade at, say, Ikea, but it just doesn’t go with an expensive lamp. I need silk shades or high-​quality linen. Off I go to A&O, and although their selection is not huge in terms of shades, they know their business and can order for you. I am waiting for the shades to come in, as they ordered two different colors so I can bring the lamp in and choose. So far, so good. They have a huge choice of unique lamps. The place is jammed with lamps. Parking is around the side and out front.

I have not been back to this store in 9 years because the owner was so rude to me. It is such a shame, because he was really a nice guy when he first bought the place so I told my friend who was with me that we should go in there, nice and helpful owner, etc. Geez! He was TERRIBLE! I was so embarrassed and offended that we walked out and I have NEVER gone back, nor will I ever.

I too have had (am still having in fact) a very unpleasant experience. I took two large exterior lanterns in to be relamped and rewired. I was first told two weeks, ok. Just over two weeks later, and having received no call, I called on a Monday and was told that they would be ready by the end of the week. Still no call, I called the following Monday (yesterday) and was told they would be ready by Thursday (same thing I was told the previous Monday.) At least the person I spoke with most recently was apologetic, unlike the person the previous week.
I’m in the residential remodeling business and will take my business elsewhere in the future.

What a horrible experience! I walked in because I needed a threaded pipe to fit a finial AND a question related to cloth-​covered wiring for another lamp. Even though there were no other customers in the store and I had been there less than 5 minutes, the owner was rude, curt, and told me I was wasting his time. He told me they were not Bering’s Hardware (although their sign says ‘lighting, gifts, parts, repairs). Clearly they’re not Bering’s — I’ve only been treated with respect at Bering’s. I’d never return to A & O. Fortunately, they’re not the only lamp store in town.
