Delicious, unique sushi. Try the shrimp po-boy rolls! And the Bird’s Nest appetizer is heavenly!

I usually go to Osaka for sushi in Houma, but we tried Zen out again the other night and after kind of a long wait, it was AWESOME. We got several special rolls including the Fleur-de-lis Roll and Bad Grandpa Roll. They were delicious. A little expensive though. That was on a Saturday night. It was so good, I decided to go again by myself the following Monday for lunch. Waited an hour for a couple rolls. Food is delicious, price and service will make me reconsider going again though.

Definitely a creative sushi menu. We started with the Bird’s Nest, which is the reason I dine here. Crab salad on top of avacado, delicioys! So good I ate it before thinking to snap a pic. Although initially going in for sushi, I decided to have the lunch hibachi. There are no hibachi tables so if that’s what you are looking for, this isn’t the place for you. Again, the rice and veggies were delicious. The steak could have used a tad more flavor. If you want sauce for your meat, you have to request it and pay extra for it, unlike most hibachi that comes with the sauce. The soup was a bit salty and the house dressing didn’t have enough ginger for me. It was a little too creamy. But for the Bird’s Nest, I will continue to dine here.

Everything was fresh and delicious! Our server was very nice and attentive. For appetizers we ordered gyoza and beef asparagus maki. The gyoza were deep fried and served with a sweet and spicy sauce. The beef maki was served mid rare and wasn’t dry like times before. For entrees we ordered the dragon roll, crunchy roll, and a ceviche salad. Everything tasted fresh and delicious! The ceviche salad was my favorite! Both rolls were the perfect size and both full of flavor. Great experience overall! Defiantly will be returning soon!

I used to be religious about going to Zen, at least twice a week. Yesterday was my last visit. My boyfriend and I waited 15 minutes for our cokes while the waitress cleaned other tables off after taking our order. There were only three other tables eating at the time. We also waited an hour for 2 roles and some fried rice while the sushi chefs ate their lunch in front of everyone. Every time I go it gets worse and worse. Maybe time for some new management or staff?

We waited an hour for four rolls which is ridiculous for a sushi restaurant. Got a side cup of sticky white rice that was very salty and not sticky. Sushi was decent but not worth the wait. Will not be returning.

I travel for work and have stopped here three times this year. The food is pretty good– Sushi and apps are above average. However, I am usually alone and eat at the bar, and that’s where this place takes a nosedive. I’ve had the same bartender on all three occasions and the service is horrible. I wish I knew her name, but she never introduces herself. To make things worse, she consistently disappears for long periods of time and picks horrible reality shows for the tube. If you eat here, sit at a table.

The sushi was much smaller than I expected… And a bit salty. Service was slow even though it wasn’t busy. The atmosphere of the restaurant was cool, but the food/service was very poor.

Hibachi is over priced for not getting the«experience». They bring good flavored food but could stand to slash pricing. Would NOT go again for hibachi. As I said, the flavor is good but it’s VERY salty and way too much butter /grease is used. Our server was sooooo slow that I had to hunt someone else down for help. Pick another place if you have a choice.

The menu didn’t have much choices as it should have. The rolls are all small and so is everything else for their price. The fish didn’t taste fresh… This isn’t the place to have sushi if you eat it often and actually have had good sushi. The interior was very elegant and nice but that can’t make up for their food. The portions again are quite small and more on the pricey side. Won’t be returning!

Sushi here was pretty good, especially for Houma, Louisiana. My husband and I felt it was sushi designed for those who don’t normal eat sushi, new to sushi, or those still getting accustomed to it. There weren’t a whole lot of options for rolls that were truly on the raw side, but we won’t deny they have some good flavors. Sexy tuna roll was absolutely excellent. We definitely will go back when we visit Houma.

Love the sushi here. While most the rolls are off limits to me(shrimp allergy), just about all of the rolls I’ve tried are good. They took my favorite roll(Viva Las Vegas Roll) off the menu, but it is still available by request.

Best sushi in Houma hands down. Actually, best sushi that I’ve had ever. I recommend the zen roll(baked), Tokyo city roll(raw), kamikaze roll(desert roll but not overly sweet), and shrimp tempura roll(good price). I am really sad that they recently removed the Philadelphia roll from the menu, but am never disappointed with the quality and flavor of the food I order. The fish in the sushi rolls is always FRESH. That’s what makes this place so great.

A few years ago, Zen was my go to for great sushi. The other places in town couldn’t compare with their fresh fish & high quality ingredients. These days, neither is true for zen. They no longer roll«traditional» sushi rolls & have a very limiting«raw» menu. Everything is covered in spicy mayo or deep fried. Very disappointing.

This place was once my favorite places to get really fresh and well crafted sushi rolls in Houma. I’m not sure if management has changed, but the quality of the food has really slumped lately. My wife and I visited today and I had the jaguar roll and she asked for the Philly roll which they no longer make. A classic roll at any sushi joint! But ok so she has the spicy tuna, we also order the Rajun Cajun edamame, clear soup and miso soup. I will give 5 stars to the edamame, 3.5 to the soups and sushi, and a –5 for my wife’s fried rice that was most definitely rice that was cooked on the previous day and reheated, the rice over heated and pasty, the egg was like the consistency of cheese that has been nuked in the microwave past it’s limits. I will now look elsewhere before returning for this mediocre at best Place to eat.

I simply would have to give Zen a 3 based on the price-value equation. The sushi was crafted beautifully. I ordered the Krispy Kreme. The taste and flavor profile were both spot on. The sad thing, though, is it left me yearning for more. Truth be told, I can be left simply yearning for more — it’s just that my wallet should also be fuller. $ 14 for a roll that barely touches my appetite is personally a bit much for me. Either lower your prices or give more value. And then, this will be a great place.

I had the beef asparagus maki for an appetizer… DELICIOUS. I also ordered the bento box, which is a great deal at only $ 12.95…all day, everyday. I replaced the rice with double hibachi veggies… a wise decision since they’re also delicious. I opted for salad over soup, and their ginger dressing is so tasty I can’t quit eating it. I also got two sushi rolls In the box– tuna tekkemaki and spicy tuna, both good choices. This is my go-to meal at zen. I also have a friendly, attentive waitress.

Really outstanding interior. Food is average and needs to be turned up a knotch. The fried rolls fell apart while picking them up with chop sticks. With Houma being in prime seafood territory, you would expect something to standout. Great potential, just tweak it and it could be great.

This is a pretty good sushi place in Houma. Well, it’s probably the best sushi in Houma. That’s not really saying much since Houma isn’t really a food lover’s Mecca. That’s ok though. Every city can’t be New Orleans. I had the Bird Nest app which is a hollowed out avocado filled with snow crab then baked and topped with spicy mayo. Very, very good. I also had the snow crab roll which was good but really small. I thought the rolls were really pricey for being so small. We ordered it to be picked up to go and the girl who took our order was a bit of a bitch. Not friendly, impatient and sounded annoyed. Zen? Not so much.
