Hitching Post

My wife and I just bought 2 scooters at Hopkins Hitching Post and could not be happier with the experience. Both Mark and Wade helped guide us in choosing the perfect scooters for the two of us. They have a very impressive selection between their two locations. We would definitely recommend them to our friends and family. Thanks again for the great customer service.

I’ve been to Hitching Post several times now. Break down of each:
1^st time:
Came scouting for a motorcycle. We were greeted by Matt, a very helpful salesman. We spent over an hour going through several models trying to find the best fit for me. I’m a first time motorcycle owner so I was asking everything I could think of. He was very patient and helpful. OK good impression. I had a bike in mind, figured I’d come back in a couple of weeks and snatch it.
2^nd time:
Came with money on hand (credit card) ready to dump it all on there per the American way of going in debt for stuff you don’t need (however in my case I do have the means to pay it off next month, milking the airline miles). So after negotiating a price we sat down with the Finance Manager. I’ve never met a more arrogant d-​bag salesman before. Was extremely arrogant and condescending. To top things off, he said HP charges you 3% commission on credit card transactions over $ 2,000 because that’s what the bank charges them. So? That’s the cost of doing business, every other merchant takes it. Whatever. Had to send the wife to the bank to get some cash out, because who the hell carries their checkbook nowadays?
Moving on to the parts department. We were looking at getting helmets and jackets for the wife and for me. The more experienced manager did not even bother to get up; just looked at us and kept doing whatever she was doing. The junior kid tried to help us and did a mediocre job. If the gear did not work, I was the one that was prodding if they had anything else, instead of him offering solutions. We clearly wanted to buy, but it seemed as though they just wanted to shove something down your throat and send you on your way. No way Jose. We finally settled on 3 catalog items, which were to arrive in a couple of weeks. Alright fine. I tried to use a Unilocal coupon for $ 95 for $ 125 worth of merchandise. They did not accept it because no one seemed to know about it. At this point I was just laughing it off because I like to keep my blood pressure down. The parts manager said she’d look into it and call me back. She did call me back and said that the Unilocal business that said Hitching Post was not them. UM WOW. So why not bother correcting this?
Payback time: a few days later the owner of the place sends me a request for feedback. Oh yes you know how it went down. I was not as polite and gentle as I’m being here. I told her exactly what I thought of her entire staff (except for Matt). Considering it was early February and there were about 3 people in the store, I would expect everyone to be making the most out of every possible sale, not acting like spoiled brats. She apologized and said she’d look into it. Within the next couple of days, I got a call saying they would love to accept my Unilocal coupon… HMMMMMM I wonder what happened…
3^rd time:
Red carpet was rolled out. I now know what it feels to be a celebrity. The minute we walked in the store to pick up the helmets and jacket, we noticed a complete transformation. Everyone had their biggest smile and best attitude and were all over us ensuring we got what we were looking for. I mean it was just funny to see the complete turnaround in customer service from the previous time. We were throughly pampered throughout our entire visit. Damn right that’s the way it should be all along. It’s not like you’re coming to buy $ 2 trinkets, I expect that if I’m dropping several thousand dollars at once I’ll get top notch customer service.
I hope that the change we experienced in our 3^rd visit can be sustained long-​term, because like I said that’s exactly how customers should be treated ALL THE TIME. HP has an extensive selection of inventory, so combining this with good customer service will be a recipe for success.
I may upgrade this review if the service continues to impress and if I decide to bring the bike here for maintenance. I’ve read some scary reviews so we’ll see…

Prices there are ridiculous, and the service manager (who is a real jack ass) and not knowledgeable what so ever had no idea what was going on in his shop. They tried to bill me for almost $ 3k when it was a couple of hundred dollars at best. I have no idea how they are still in business.

I was in with my husband not to long ago. He loves motorcycles and he likes to check out new places to see what they have in stock. There wasn’t really any sales people around for him to talk to except for a blonde guy — he might of been a manager?- that looked very grumpy. We didn’t want to even say «hello» to him! All the bikes were way to closed together, it was hard to look at. It was just a very uncomfortable environment.
We did have a great experience in the parts department. Jeremy was very knowledgeable about motorcycles and parts. He answered all my husband’s questions without any hesitations or having to look things up. His customer service is by far one of the best I’ve experience. I’ve been in customer service for 15 years, so, I look for great service. If we were to go back, it would be for Jeremy’s expertise. I give 2 stars because of him, otherwise it would be 0 if I had a choice.

I brought my bike in for 15k maintenance and a chain and sprocket replacement. On my way home my lower fairing fell off. If I wasn’t an experienced rider the bike would have been down I could have lost not only my bike but my life! They never informed me there was anything wrong or that there they couldn’t put my fairings back how it was before I had it worked on. I wouldn’t recommend any service due to negligence from this shop. I am grateful I am here to inform all about this!

Purchased my bike there in 2007, have had all my service done at the Fridley and Hopkins locations. Anthony at the Fridley location was awesome, he no longer works there. The guy that took over doesn’t seem to understand the idea of customer service. Very rude and after literally thousands of dollars of service, I will NO LONGER being using this repair shop. They push unnecessary repairs and exaggerate labor at $ 110 an hour. DIY or go somewhere else and save yourself the headache. Update — This location closed. Not shocking at all. I’ve heard Mike the shop manager is now at the Hopkins location would advise staying away.

I ordered a driver peg for my bike from Hitching Post on Wednesday, and it should have been delivered the next Tuesday. At the same time I had 15K service scheduled for the following Thursday, and asked that the peg be installed at the same time. The peg didn’t arrive and wasn’t installed when I picked up the bike. It didn’t arrive for another week. I suspect it wasn’t ordered when I asked for it. I got no forewarning and little explanation other than it wasn’t in. When it arrived a week later they wanted $ 20 to install it (claiming it’s a 30 minute job). It took 5 minutes for assembly and another 5 minutes to install. The Hitching Post’s service group’s attitude does not instill customer loyalty.

In reviewing a motorcycle/​scooter shop I’m not sure what would push me from «yay! I’m a fan» to «woohoo! as good as it gets…» Maybe free stuff? Maybe the boys at the Hitching Post calling to check on how our scooter is treating us or asking if we need anything.
That said, if you are in the market for a scooter, I can’t say enough good things about the Hitching Post. The staff is knowledgeable and professional with a no-​pressure sales philosophy and tons of financing and purchase options. The showroom is clean and spacious and their inventory is extensive.
