History

Established in 1980.

Back in 1769, Moravians from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania established a settlement in Hope, New Jersey. Though their primary purpose was serving as missionaries to the local Native Americans, they understood the necessity of commerce in sustaining their lifestyle. The first permanent structures built in the village were an imposing five-story stone gristmill. The Moravians left the village of Hope in 1808 and all church owned buildings were sold. The water powered mill continued grinding local farmers’ grain for another 136 years. Closed for nearly 3 decades, the mill and surrounding buildings were restored and renovated to become the Inn at Millrace Pond. Today, the Inn meets the 21st century needs of discerning guests. Features include the elegant dining room, the rustic fireside tavern, 17 guest rooms and the Wallenburg conference center. Our 23 acre campus boasts rolling lawns, the centuries old millrace carved from solid rock, a tennis court, woodland paths and event space for weddings.
