The Inn At Millrace Pond

The tavern downstairs is truly unique. You should check it out. The upstairs is very nice and when empty sort of like a cafeteria at the same time.
In some ways it strikes me as an authentic Cracker Barrel. You can get old timey comfort food like you would get at your grandmother’s (e.g., chicken pot pie) but with real, less processes ingredients.
We stayed at the Inn. Had the fireplace in our room been working — it would have been magical. Alas, they are doing construction. I would stay and eat here again on my next western NJ hiking adventure and recommend to others.

We stopped here for dinner last night. The wait was about an hour so they gave us complimentary drinks. I ordered the encrusted salmon. It was the best salmon I’ve ever had. The whole dish was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the chicken pot pie. That was also excellent. If we’re ever in town again, we’ll be going back.

We had a romantic lunch here, love the rustic feel, it was built in the 1700’s. Baked brie was delicious, and the chicken pot pie was worth returning for! No rush to the service, a perfect afternoon meal. If we lived near here, we would definitely eat here again!

Over the years of living in the area I’ve heard lots of positive feedback from friends/​family and I never got the chance to try the inn at millrace pond. Last night I decided to check it out with my girlfriend. We read the reviews and overlooked the menu prior to and it seemed like a nice evening and a good meal. We ordered drinks and salads to start out with and then had the salmon and filet mignon. The salads were great, but the entrees were terrible. We couldn’t even eat a quarter of them. I promised myself after years of working in a restaurant that I would never be that person that complained, but the price point at this restaurant wasn’t cheap. If you are charging $ 30 for entrees it should definitely be fresh at least. My steak looked frozen and uncooked. The salmon had a weird coloring to it with zero taste. The scenery is beautiful and the waitress was sweet but overall I would never suggest this place to anyone. The worst feeling is leaving a place unsatisfied.

Sat ⁴⁄₂ was our second time here. I can’t understand these negative reviews. Our experience was great. Friendly, attentive and timely service. EXCEPTIONAL food– I had the rib eye and I’m picky about my steak. It was incredible. We ate in the tavern area and the rich historic atmosphere left us with the feeling that this was not just a dinner out but it was an experience. Not cheap but not expensive either — for what you get. I could hardly finish. I would rather spend $ 27 on a good steak dinner that melts in your mouth than $ 18 for one that leaves you a bit disappointed. Keep up the good work! We’ll definitely be back!

A favorite romantic spot for special occasions. Beautiful 18^th-​century setting, great food, friendly staff.

I just had lunch in the tavern at Millrace Pond. I had to write a review because all the reviews I read were really bad so we were expecting the worst. The waitress told us there was a new chef, which may have explained the difference. We had the hummus plate and the chili. The food was fantastic… I know we just had appetizers but we loved it. The staff was also very attentive. We enjoyed the food very much!

Wow, what a beautiful, warm building to come to in the snow. I found that the food was tasty and the atmosphere was friendly.
They seamed a little short on wait staff but that might’ve been because of the snow. Over all, it’s a nice place whether you want to spend the night or just come to dine.
The water was nice and chilly. And, might I add, the drink servings were plentiful. We all enjoyed the cheese platter as we waited for our meal.
We ate in the downstairs area which we all found comfy. This was mostly a great place to eat. All of the food from the Lobster Mac&Cheese to the sliders was delicious.

Was here recently for a wedding. Overall it was a really nice experience.
Decent food. Beautiful tent. Tavern area for before or after the reception — although I think this closed earlier than they said they would. Cocktail hour was in a nice old building built in the early 1800s. Plenty of waiters constantly rotating trays of hors d’ouevres
They also have a bonfire pit so after the wedding we just brought a couple of coolers of beers, and smores making materials and continued the party.
The rooms were reasonably priced and just very old, quaint and beautiful. Very historic feeling. Comfortable beds, nice showers…
This is located in the western/​northwestern «nice» area of New Jersey. Very quiet and rural with plenty of outdoor and historical activities nearby.
Also close to route 80 for easy access.

The atmosphere was fantastic. The service was poor. The food was WAAAAY overpriced and not very good. I will not be eating here again

Two stars for the décor. The food however leaves much to be desired as the «continental» menu lacks creativity and does not match the painstaking attention to detail that went into the atmosphere. While your surroundings go to great lengths to evoke an unadorned, rustic continental feel the menu says otherwise. Scrolling down the entrees — DelMonaco steak (good!); chicken pot pie (okay); penne vodka (wait, what??). And as if it were a joke the latter is «price varies». Based on what? The price of penne? As a local I thought we could count on this place for a strong meal but apparently not. As far as I’m concerned the highlight of the meal is the hearth rolls and sweet butter that come while you’re waiting. As a final note, they’re not even good neighbors. Since they built an outdoor patio a few years ago all you can hear on Friday and Saturday nights all over town is music blasting from this place; I can’t even imagine how loud it must be in the restaurant! This place has been on a steady decline for the past 10 years. I would rather go to Applebee’s.

We have really enjoyed the restaurant in the past. PAST being the key word. I’m not sure if they have changed the chef, but the food seems to have fallen off. The Prime rib was a slice of over cooked roast beef… The last 2 times we were there, the portions seem to have gotten smaller… A lot of charm, but at this point not much else.

I was passing through here during a business trip and we met up for lunch. I felt that the food was okay at best, especially given the price. Great atmosphere and service in a charming setting but the food just couldn’t deliver.

We decided to try lunch today and I wish we could take that decision back! We were the only people there — I ordered the chicken pot pie, my husband the Blackened Shrimp Alfredo served over fettuccini pasta with white truffle Alfredo sauce for $ 22.00. It was tiny. Appetizer tiny. It was also a mix of fettuccini and PENNE. You DON’T mix pasta’s! The sauce was good but the penne (that was not supposed to be there anyway) was MUSHY. The shrimp frozen and bland.
We did something we NEVER do but the spirit of Gordon Ramsay was with us. We complained and ordered something else. A simple Caesar salad with chicken. Easy right? Apparently not, it took 20 MINUTES to bring out. Did I mention we were the only ones there? My husband waited so long that he ate the rest of my chicken pot pie. The salad that took forever to make was a few pieces of iceburg lettuce, stale croutons and the chicken was BAD. It was tough and didn’t smell right.
The waitress apologized, took off the shrimp dish and didn’t charge us for the salad. Thank goodness for that at least.
We found out that for weddings and events they CATER IT OUT TO ANOTHER COMPANY. Obviously they don’t know how to cook! I’ve lived next to this place for almost my whole life and we went to a party there recently where the food was absolutely excellent.
I tried to call 3 times a few months ago to book a party based on the good food at the party we attended. I was told each time someone would call me back. No one did. Very disappointed and in the end glad I didn’t have my party there — and we will NEVER be going back there again to eat lunch or dinner.

Spent this past weekend at the Inn for a wedding. We were looking forward to the cozy B&B atmosphere and getting out in the countryside for a while. We called them a couple days earlier to see what time check-​in was and the lady that answered didn’t know. She said she would call us right back, but never heard back from her. The groom encountered the same lack of communication. He called on several occasions with questions and they didn’t even call him back. We supposedly got one of the «best rooms» since my boyfriend was the Best Man in the wedding. The rooms were outdated with uncomfortable spring beds, low water pressure in the shower, a bathroom fan that we thought was going to fall down from shaking every time we turned it on, blinds kept falling down and the room was very dusty (obviously don’t have a professional cleaning crew come in). There was an air conditioner in the loft area, but it kept spitting out dust all over the bed and took a while to cool off the main area downstairs. Breakfast was included, but it wasn’t much to speak of. The eggs and french toast were both like rocks and inedible. The sausage was good and they have yogurt, toast and decent coffee/​tea selection. I did get there around 10am and heard that it was good from the people that got there at 8am.
Despite the subpar and not cheap room, we didn’t complain about anything. We were in such high spirits that we brushed everything off… and we’re not dramatic, stuck up people to start with. Wish the Inn didn’t cry over a little spilled «juice» either. We left our room in the same condition as we found it, except for a couple stains on the sheet and comforter. I’m no cleaning expert, but I’ve gotten stains on my bed before and with a little detergent and bleach they come out… worst come to worst the dry cleaner can do it for cheap. In their opinion it’s easier to take advantage of people and charge $ 250 on our credit card… not like we didn’t already spend enough there and on the wedding. I called to try to sort the situation out and understand how they rationalize $ 250 for a sheet and comforter (wasn’t like it was 600 count Egyptian cotton with a top quality down comforter). No experience in customer service.
Note: 2 weeks later we did see a $ 200 refund in our account. We appreciated this very much. I can deal with $ 50 for the bedding.
As for the positives… The buildings are quaint and charming. The front desk lady was welcoming and friendly. Flowers outside were pretty.
We also had the rehearsal dinner in the tavern. It included a good salad, butternut squash soup which was delicious… sweet and rich (I would put ice cream in it and eat it as dessert), a fish and meat option which were well prepared, and carrot cake was moist and yummy. The chef was also really nice and came out and chatted for a bit.
We used the bar downstairs for an hour after the wedding. The bartender was very nice and friendly. They had a little mill running through the old building next to the bar which added a charming touch. A bunch of people said this place is haunted, but we didn’t experience any of that. haha.

I agree with previous reviews. So cute but service sucks bad the food was good the first time and mediocre the second. Pretty over priced pub food. Want to love this place so bad.

Amazing. Relaxing. Beautiful, old stone buildings, wood interior, quiet surroundings… green, lots of gorgeous flowers. Come to chill out and get away from it all! Staff is friendly. Very nice place

This place has more charm than you can shake a stick at. But the services is SLOW and the food is. .. ok. I usually eat downstairs because it’s so quaint.
They’ve changed chefs several times in the last few years and it’s hard to say whether it’s good or bad at this point. They seemed inconsistent and rather lost the last few times I was there. I’ll probably give it a try again in the future to see if they’ve improved.

Inconsistent is the word of the day. Love the location and the history but the food doesn’t match. Service is spotty, they have a new chef and I can see what they’re trying to do, but I wouldn’t venture to go much further than the pub menu. It’s really quite expensive, for a pub menu when you think about it, prices range around 11 – 16, and for what you’re getting it feels like a bit of a tourist trap type of experience. With the pub and the dining room located on two different levels, service is bound to suffer, and it does. This has been under multiple management groups over the last 7 years, and the lack of consistency is apparent. If you are going here for the food, you’re making a big mistake. Go to Ellias instead, it’s ten minutes away and superior in every aspect.
