If I could give this place zero stars, I would. My husband and I went in there to have dinner one evening. It was maybe 6pm and the place was not very full. A couple was ahead of us. They waited for at least 2 – 3 minutes to be seated. After they were seated, we waited another minute or two. That’s when the real wait began. We sat at the table for at least ten minutes and watched the few other tables being served, but nobody even looked at us. In the kitchen we could see multiple cooks standing around staring into the dining area because they apparently had nothing to do. After waiting for a while with no service, we got up and left. Obviously management is not doing their job. It shouldn’t take 5 minutes to be seated and no service after another ten minutes, especially when you’ve got enough employees behind the counter to be bored enough to stare into space. Here’s an idea, maybe you could train your kitchen staff to wait tables in a pinch. I will NEVER visit this Steak N Shake again.

The fact that the restaurant is open 24⁄7 is a HUGE draw. As far as the food goes, it’s about average. The fries are typically not fresh, but the milkshakes make up for it. Unfortunately, many of my favorite shakes are«limited time only.» The biggest gripe I have is that all drive-thru servers constantly wear vinyl gloves that are bad for smearing grease. After handing my credit card to the cashier, it usually comes back with more than a little grease on it, as do the individual food containers. This is an instant appetite killer for me and reminds me of the old days of school lunch workers.

It is great service, good food at a good price. We’ve been several times and never been disappointed.

Horrible service every time I have been here! This time was the last straw. They take forever and never get the order right. This time I went through the drive thru and they left a few things out. Luckily I checked the bag before leaving the parking lot. I went inside only to stand there waiting 20 minutes for a couple containers of sauce(contemplated just leaving without it several times) and by the time I got it and got home our food was cold. The staff was very unapologetic and seemed to be purposely taking forever. One of the cooks mocked me right in front of me. So rude. I will never go back to this Steak ‘n Shake.

This is my first time here I’ve been wanting to come here for a while now and so far so good it’s good that their open 24 hours not many places are my server was very friendly the food was fine and it came out quickly which I liked and steak n shake is not expensive the only thing is that they don’t have much to choose from on their menu

I have to admit this is my first to visit a steak n shake since they are in Birmingham area. I was not disappointed. We were greeted when we walked in and got our drink orders within a minute. Server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the garlic steak burger and it was good. I like that every sandwich is made fresh to order. For 4 dollars you get a delicious burger and shoe strong fries. Décor reminds you of the old school burger joints you see on movies. They play oldies music which compliments their theme. Highly recommend for a good burger and cheap outing.

Was looking forward to trying this place. Went in last night, and waited 5 minutes to be seated. After 15 minutes waiting for a waitress, we decided to leave. They seemed to only care about the drive thru. Don’t go here at night unless your in the drive thru

If you go at the right time, the wait isn’t too bad, and it’s always worth it. I love the steak burgers, fries, and shakes. The prices are great. The staff are very nice. Don’t forget to tip your waitress.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. For us Steak and Shake would be and is still at times a choice for any of those three if it weren’t for IHOP being better and closer to us. Putting that discussion aside and purely on its merits SnS is a solid retro burger and milk shake joint. It’s a chain so the experience should be very similar no matter what location you visit and in this one it is. Good food. Good service and reasonable prices. Shakes and deserts in general are great. Stringy thin fries are something you either like or don’t. Not much middle ground on that so buyer beware if shoe string fries aren’t your thing. Reasonably fast service including the drive thru. Too bad this site has such a poor overall score based on what looks like was a management problem a couple of years ago but like any good chain poor management stains the franchise and usually is corrected. It has been here. Store is clean enough for a high volume burger joint. Not spotless but not grease slippery floors either. Stake and Shake hits the right spots, especially if IHOP isn’t close by.

Long wait in drive through. It took 20 min and the food was subpar. Both burgers were over cooked and the fries were ok.

Decent food. Great prices. Super milkshakes. Steak N Shake is a fun place to eat on a casual date night. I’ve never been here when it was super crowded, so can’t speak on that. My food usually arrives within a few minutes and the servers are always friendly and usually high school kiddies. For $ 4.00, you can feast on a drink-less meal and order one of the famous milkshakes. If you’re lucky and come during happy hour(2:00−5:00 a.m. or p.m.) you can get that shake for half price. #Winning

YES!!! A place that knows how to make a milkshake. The drive through is always full here and the its hard to find parking but if you go in for a table somehow you get seated quickly. Atmosphere– 50’s diner. Clean. Bright. Staff– Friendly and attentive Food– Steakburgers with skinny fries and milkshakes… I hear they server other things and drinks but they have steakburgers with skinny fries and milkshakes! A milkshake should be runny. If it doesn’t pour out of your glass the person who made it was lazy. Steak ‘n Shake knows these rules and they make perfect milkshakes. Remember if you cant pour it out of the glass it is just ice cream.

This place is absolutely awesome!!! My family and I got a chance to go here today for lunch and the food was just outstanding. The waitress was amazing and the service was over the top!!! If you want to get some great food and service, please don’t hesitate to go to «Steak ‘N’ Shake» in Hoover, Alabama. Oh by the way, we would LOVE to have a location in Gadsden, Alabama(HINT)!!!

The service at this location is terrible. We were seated after they bussed one of the many tables that hadn’t been cleaned for probably over an hour. It took about 25 minutes for our drink order to be taken. And this was after we had to track down our waitress, who we were repeatedly assured would be with us soon. An additional 15 minutes for our drinks to actually arrive. An HOUR later, our food finally came out, just as we were about to walk out and just go grab some Taco Bell. There was no excuse for this wait. The place had died down, and the servers were aimlessly wandering, as if hoping the clients could direct them where to go next. What to do next. No one came to refill our drinks, no one came to check on us. In fact, the waiters studiously avoided eye contact. I award this place 0 stars. Screw this Steak N’ Shake!

I had to stop at this place from noticing every morning that the drive thru was always busy… I made it my personal to agenda to stop and try them out… WOWOWOW, the breakfast shooter combo really made me happy. Thank you. So, be sure to get extra hashbrowns and thank me later

We ate here one time. We were impressed with the Alabaster store, and, this one is closer to us. We were not greeted and waited for a good amount of time before finally I asked to be helped. A table was provided and we were served by a very inexperienced waiter. After our food was brought we were unable to get refills or any service. We had to go get catsup ourselves and beg for flatware. Then, it took forever to be able to pay. In the meantime the«help» was just schlepping around aimlessly, helping no one. This is a place I avoid. We have never been back. I wrote the franchise owners because they really care. You can see this for yourselves if you go to the Alabaster store. I think they deserve better employees at this location.

This chain is more of a novelty in this area than anything. Better than many other fast food options but not enough so to go out of your way. I ordered the Cajun Steakburger. The special cajun sauce did add a nice kick to the standard Steakburger. The seasoning added to the top of the bun I would just as soon they leave off. Probably due more to whatever(butter) they prep the basic bun with for the seasoning to stick. Now for why I am not very likely to return. The entire restaurant was extremely cold, nearly unbearable. The weather that day was actually quite pleasant temperature wise but occasionally misting. I ate as quickly as possible so I could leave and warm up outside. When I went to pay it took myself and 2 other customers longer than you would expect to pay and leave. Apparently there was only 1 person who could run the register and she was tied up elsewhere.

If you’re looking for a filthy place to eat, look no further. We stopped in after the early show at the Comedy Club, on a Saturday night. My first stop was the restroom. The floors were so incredibly greasy, the stainless steel stall walls disgusting. The dining room was worse. As much as I hate embarrassing my family, they agreed to pile back in the car. So my husband writes a letter, gets an apology and a promise of a gift certificate, this chain in other states was a favorite, so we would give them another chance. It’s been 2 months now, still nothing. I’m with the other reviewer who wishes for zero stars. This place deserves negative stars. For real.

If there was a no star, that’s what I would choose. It’s appalling to walk into this place let alone smell it. It smells like a dirty gym. The floors are sticky and very dirty. The counters are covered in sticky stuff. The staff has no guidance and you can tell. Corporate should take a tour of this place. It’s really bad. So bad I walked out.
