Hyatt Place Birmingham Hoover

Awful experience. Booked a king sized bed: not available. The ceiling above the shower leaked and the shower walls/​ceiling were rust stained. Yuck. Cordless phone did not work. Numerous lights were not working in the room. The work table was wobbly and seemed like it would fall apart. The tv had spots all over the screen. Would never stay at this hotel again.

Room was clean, breakfast was fresh, and the staff were very friendly and helpful! This hotel is catered more towards a business clientele, but as a family we enjoyed our stay.

This place is in need of serious renovation. I stayed on the 3^rd Floor and apparently there was a water leak and there with 3 large loud fans blowing. At around 7 pm, I called the front desk and asked if the fans would be turned off and they said No because of the leak. The fans ran for 2 nights during my 4 night stay. The staff is friendly and the price isn’t bad, but there are probably nicer, more updated places to stay for a similar cost. So while it’s not a complete dump, definitely look around and do some price comparison before booking.

Great value. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. I believe this hotel will be renovated in 2016, but it is extremely clean. Apparently their water pressure was too high until recently, causing random toilets to explode periodically. But every time they got on it and removed all moisture and repaired the room. I’ve stayed at this hotel probably 20 times over the past two years.
I see a few negative reviews. Most negative reviews are old; the hotel is owned and managed by a different company since August 2015. They were recently awarded best value by JD Powers. The rooms are very clean and nice sized. The food is good and they have a wine and beer bar! A shuttle will take you anywhere up to three miles for free. The best value on the street. After renovation I’m sure the rates will go up.

The ceiling in the lobby was leaking and we had to walk through overflowing toilet water to get to our room. The staff was not interested in helping guests, retaining customers or ameliorating the situation in any way. The assistant manager claimed to have have no knowledge of the massive leak from the fourth floor to the lobby (as a crew was working, removing furniture and carpet). Only in your worst nightmare could you imagine such apathetic management.

The staff! I just wanted to hug her! I cannot remember her name for the life of me but she checked us in Friday evening (maybe around 5pm? Give or take an hour) got us our keys and every time we walked past the front desk she greeted us and asked us how our day was and asked us how we enjoyed whatever activity we told her we were going to do when we left the hotel. I was surprised what great memory she had considering everytime we walked in or out of the hotel, there were new comers everywhere! THE BREAKFAST! Agh! I normally am not that big of a fan of free hotel breakfast but this I really enjoyed! The eggs were fluffy, sausage links were so plump and juicy (not dried like most hotels, and I hate sausage patties at hotels because they always seem to crumble, gross). I loved the French toast but wasn’t a fan of the pancakes (hard and dry). They had a variety of cereal, fruit and a yogurt bar. Bagels, mini muffins and toast were also available. Free parking and free wifi, couldn’t ask for more! We had a mini fridge in our room and it was so spacious!!! The only thing I had an issue with was everytime we walked back in our room after a long day, the room seemed a little musty (but that could have been our fault for not turning the ac on much higher than we had it). Overall, I would definitely stay here again!

Room was updated and clean, large rooms with kitchenette and sofas. The lobby was beautiful and the breakfast was more than expected, examples this morning were open face biscuits with gouda cheese, eggs, and peppers. The staff was appropriately trained and plentiful and even had a manager go out of their way to say hello and good morning. 2 thumbs up.

They block so many sites on the wifi but there provider claims that is not the case. Of course that is when you can get online. Also if you ask for something you might need to ask several times before you receive extra pillows, etc.

This is your typical Hyatt Place, although at least there is enough room for people to sit and eat breakfast (unlike the Austin, TX location). You get free WiFi, breakfast, and parking. The amenities must not be too shabby here, since this is where the army stayed while I was there.
The breakfast can get a bit dull if you stay at Hyatt Place often. It’s always the same: breakfast sandwiches, hard waffles/​pancakes, and no eggs (hard boiled or scrambled) or sausage/​bacon. At least there’s an ample amount of Tazo teas to choose from, and there’s plenty of fresh fruit, cereal, and milk/​juices.
Rooms are spacious compared to some of the Hiltons and Marriotts where I’ve stayed. I do like the L shaped couch (which can pullout into a bed). This Hyatt Place though does not have the food network channel, which I find strange.
My main problem with this hotel was the aftermath. I had a rate that included $ 25 per day for food and beverages. On the morning of checkout, my statement charged me for all of the food. On that morning, I spoke with a manager and collected a revised bill, thinking it was taken care of. I was wrong.
A week later, I noticed on the the charges appeared on my credit card bill. When I called in the evening, there was no manager on file, so I left a message. Three days later, I still hadn’t received a response.
I travel 80% of the time now, so it’s hard for me to get a hold of people. A week later, I emailed Hyatt and explained I needed someone to fix my bill. They requested I call the hotel. Because I didn’t have time due to travel, I called a week later. Again, a manager was not on duty.
I then called the next day during the daytime, and I was finally able to talk to Julie. She said she would review the charges and take them off if needed. Later I received an email stating the charges would be taken off, but what’s interesting is that I did not receive a follow-​up phone call. I just happened to check my email, and lo and behold, there was a bill with a revised statement.
I stayed at this hotel because of Hyatt’s endless possibilities promotion (50,000 bonus points if you stay 20 nights from Jan-​Apr 2014). The bottom line is that if you have a normal hotel rate, this will suffice. But if you get some sort of special rate where an amenity is included, beware!

Great location, Front desk staff was nice, free cookies when you check into your room, free breakfast in the morning, and nice & quiet rooms. The only downside was they wouldn’t accept my Hyatt gold points as payment because I didn’t call. Lame!
My wife said she liked the sheet blanket sheet combo on the bed… I don’t even know what that means but whatever.
Super tiny bathroom subtracts 1 star
Long story short, i’d stay here again for the value but my wife was a little annoyed with the bathroom. Full breakfast bar with breakfast sandwiches… first that I’ve seen this during a free breakfast

Very nice hotel. Good location. AWESOME service. I’ve stayed here a dozen times and have been happy every time. Good price. Clean room and a good free breakfast. Can’t go wrong.

Average room, reasonably clean. Front desk staff did not greet us, had to find them and ask to check in. Reasonably friendly. We had our two children in room and I called to ask for an extra pillow. «We don’t have extra pillows.» What?

Came into town after a seven hour drive down from Athens, TN and was greeted very warmly by the front desk manager. There is plenty of competition in the area as there is a Embassy and MicroTel within spitting distance of this place.
The layout and fixtures in the room are definitely a step up from the Hampton Inns that I’m used to. The design of the bathroom is a bit strange with the sink placed outside of the shower/​toilet area. The light above the sink also shines directly across from the beds so good luck if you’re trying to use the sink without waking up somebody sleeping on the bed!
There was a good selection of choices for breakfast including the delicious egg mcmuffin clones (I had 3 of them). The gym was OK but I was hoping for a set of dumbbells at least, no big deal.
The hotel is located within walking distance of a mall and several places to eat if you don’t feel like wading into the very busy road in front of the place.
My lasting impression of this place will be how eager the manager and staff were to make sure your needs were taken care of and the stay pleasant. So if you’re ever in town, this is the place to be!

This was my first Hyatt Place stay. It is a business oriented hotel with modern updates convenient to the River Chase Galleria and Patton creek shopping area. Friendly check in staff. Nice upscale lobby and breakfast area perfect for lounging and doing some light work on a laptop etc. Rooms are clean and updated with modern features. The suite style with separate sitting area makes the room very spacious. Also the huge flat screen TV is probably the biggest TV I’ve seen yet in a hotel! Small bathroom but mostly due to the sinks being placed outside of the bathroom. Nice wet bar area with mini fridge. Free breakfast was quite filling and even included breakfast sandwiches (sort of along the lines of a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit at McD’s). Area is quite safe looking. Will definitely check out future Hyatt Places.

I have spent a lot of time at all brands of Hyatt Hotels. Lately been traveling with the family and started staying at the Hyatt Place. Had great experiences in Broomfield CO, Roseville CA and Reno NV — cannot say the same about this hotel.
To begin with as a Diamond Member there was no recognition — no hello, no do you want the points, no here is my card if you need anything. It was get you processed at the desk.
Now to the room. As a Diamond member — you are suppose to get the best room available — if the best room (with a King) is a cross from the elevator facing the busy room where you can hear the traffic and sirens, then it makes you wonder about the others. Had a second room with two queen beds in that was larger and on the quiet side.
Back to my room — first TWO TV remotes did not work. Staff was quick about fixing the issue. As to the location, you could hear the elevator and people walking. Didn’t want to deal with moving rooms — because as a Diamond member you are suppose to be in the best available room!
Bed was comfortable and fairly clean. Bathroom could have been cleaner — tub needs to re-​chalked.
Now for some negatives. Pool area was not clean. No towels and no staff attentiveness. We sat outside for about an house with the kids and a few other families and one couple. The couple has a cooler and is smoking. They eventually get up and walk out the back gate (no key needed to get in either gate) and get into two separate cars and drive off.
While there is free wi-​fi — signal strength was rather weak.
Had to go to desk and ask for towels. About 20 minutes later towels arrived.
The hotel needs a separate elevator for the cleaning staff. I so enjoyed being crammed in an elevator with the staff taking out the trash and going up and down the elevator with the cleaning cart. House keeping staff was also eating their lunch in the lobby.
Morning breakfast service was good. Need more coffee stations. Staff was very attentive.
We were going to stay two nights — but after first night checked out. Not sure I will stay here again.

Really nice hotel, huge tv, comfortable beds. You have to go down and pick up your own room service order and also find the menu on the TV menu which is odd, but the food was decent and fairly cheap by hotel standards.

Came in late on a monday and the Staff checked us in with no problem and were really nice. My room was HUGE, with a couch seating area, desk area, kitchen sink, bathroom sink (which was outside of the bathroom. weird!) and a nice view of some trees outside. Everything seemed modern and kept up. I stopped in at the bar downstairs to kill some time and got a few beers for pretty cheap (by my nyc standards!).
Free breakfast in the morning was better than some other hotels that I’ve stayed at. They had biscuits, gravy, a few types of cereal, english muffins bagels, a DIY conveyer-​belt toaster, decent coffee, condiments, fruits, and yogurt.
Oh, and to the person who gave this hotel 1 star: YOU FOUND MONEY ON THE FLOOR, WHY ARE YOU MAD. :]

Someone expected a hot tub at a Hyatt Place. I don’t think so. Anyway, this is a nice hotel with hospitable service; I’ve stayed here at least 30 nights. I prefer this hotel to the Wyndham.

I had credit card problems and the bartender host fixed everything. VIP service all round even to some drunk smucks that came in late at night. Seriously these hosts are awesome! Room was awesome and insane based on price!

This place was one of the pits a stayed in for a resent trip to Florida. I would never stay here again, it was not worth it. I drove 9 hours to get into the area and 2 hours to go the last 7 miles to get to this hotel.
They have NO hot tub and the pool was ice cold in mid May, and the front desk people were just bad at functioning. My room had water on the carpet from leaking A/​C unit and the place was not vacuumed good as I found money on the floor. The breakfast was good but I could at other hotels and spend my savings on a great breakfast.
I could not check out as the front desk person left his post for at least 30 minutes, I just left a note for them to sign me out.
In short KEEP DRIVING past this hotel and many to choose from here.
I will traveling thru this area each year at least 4 times and I will never stay here again. I lost an heirloom pocket knife and called them to ask if it was recovered. The person on the phone said they did not find a black knife, the trouble was I hadn’t told them the color yet, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
