History

Established in 1990.

In 1989, Owner Bob Morus and his family moved from Georgia to the quiet town of Hood River, Oregon with big dreams of owning a little vineyard with just enough grapes to make a few barrels for family and friends.

The Morus family planted 8 acres of Pinot Noir in 1990 on the steep slopes in front of their home. Over the decade, the vineyard grew to 30 acres total of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.

At the annual «International Pinot Noir Celebration», Bob met 4th generation winemaker, Alexandrine Roy. In Burgundy, France Alexandrine makes wine on her own Family Estate– Domaine Marc Roy. Bob invited Alexandrine to visit his vineyards in Hood River.

During her visit, Bob and Alexandrine disovered that due to the similar climate and environment of Burgundy and the Columbia Gorge; the grapes from both areas of the world produced similar flavors as well. From that simple lunch, an exciting business venture began and Alexandrine Roy became the winemaker for Phelps Creek Vineyards.
