We used this company for the group outrigger canoe excursion. The guys at the desk were a bunch of young punks with attitude. I hope they don’t work on commission …
Anyway, the photographer was kind, sweet, and endearing. He introduced himself beforehand and chatted us up a bit. The captain (?) was professional and to the point. I think he overheard us talking about how I was a little uneasy with the activity, so he promptly put me in front of the canoe ! All my doubts slipped away as we headed out to the ocean .The captain steered us in the right direction and shouted out commands. Even though the water was calm we managed to «catch» a few small waves. We saw a giant sea turtle swim by us, which was the highlight of the trip. The views of Waikiki and Diamond Head were phenomenal .
We laughed, got wet, and had an experience we won’t soon forget .

We were recommended to use the Waikiki Beach Services from the Royal Hawaiian concierge for a burial at sea. My Mom had set everything up before we arrived to the Royal Hawaiian for a 10am departure on 1÷30÷16 and we were advised to arrive 10 minutes early. We ended up waiting over 30 minutes because the main paddler could not find someone to take pictures. All the while he kept talking about himself and how his back hurt & that he was going to go home after taking us out. Not really appropriate given the circumstances of which we were there to spread my Dad’s ashes.
Not worth the $ 300 charge for a 5 min ride straight out from shore (total time in boat maybe 15 – 20 min) when an entire charter for an hour is $ 300. He obviously rushed us so he could go home early.
Initially, the owner, Ted, seemed so kind and genuine when arranging all of this, yet did not respond to my Mom’s email about the post ride complaint.
Waikiki Beach Services is not the only company who charges more for adding the word ‘burial’ to the ride. It’s not as if you have a chance for a ‘do over’. If your plan is to grant your deceased loved one’s last wish, be certain you are clear with exactly what you are purchasing.
Obviously our expectations were not met. Extremely disappointed and would not recommend.

I organized a 50-​person outrigger canoeing activity for a team offsite and it was a total blast! There was a little bit of emailing back-​and-​forth to sort out exactly how a 3-​hour event of outrigger racing would work out logistically and what the pricing was but after that it was smooth sailing from there on out…
Miwa from WBS was great in terms of meeting me onsite the day before to walk me through where to meet and how the race would work. For a small cost, they set us up with umbrellas & beach chairs where we could park our stuff on the beach.
We had 3 canoes at our disposal to race with and as teams were eliminated in our tournament, one of the captains took folks out for canoe surfing which was pretty darn cool to do! The captains were great in getting a bunch of novices rowing like pros in no time :)
Outrigger canoeing was a unique Hawaii experience and WBS helped us have a great time!

Spent the morning longboarding and learning how catch waves in the outrigger canoe! It was a great time and getting lessons from some locals adds to the experience. It was my second time using Waikiki Beach Services and I plan to use them again whenever I go back!

WAIKIKI Beach Services is a must when in Waikiki. The beach boys will teach you everything you need to know to be safe and have a blast while learning to surf. Counting the days until I go back to Hawaii so I can visit their awesome staff and make some more memories in the surf!

Amazing customer service. Easy to use and had everything I needed to have a great water day adventure! Will definitely visit them again on my next visit to Hawaii

Love these guys! They are so friendly and welcoming. Have done surf lessons, chair rentals, and canoe rides several times. Staff is courteous and extremely helpful. We always have a blast on the canoe and the surf instructors are really good, especially with beginners. I could not recommend them more!

Learn how to surf in less that an hour. I’m not saying that you will be surfing the North shore after an hour, however you might be rippin a 2 or 4ft swell fo sho!
The beach boys are amazing! They will train any level. Plus if you are really feeling like you’re getting it, you can rent a board for the day too!

Yikes! While it’s nice to have such a rental place, we booked our beach chairs online before we left on our trip, to make sure we were close to the water. Looking at the map online, we booked what looked like beach front, 2 chaise lounges and an umbrella. When you get there, you find that a part of the map has been eliminated online, and you aren’t all that close. This set up was $ 40 per day. When we got there, and expressed our disappointment, we were told that for an extra $ 10 a day, we could be in the section closer to the beach. This was the afternoon we arrived, and our rental was starting the next day. We thought, because of all the rental chairs, that this was a private beach. Wrong. There is a strip at the back of the sand that belongs to the Royal Hawaiian, but everything in front of that is public beach. They send workers out in the wee hours of the morning to claim these spaces of public beach, and then rent the chairs??? In front of these rented chairs is public beach. On our first day, we had the good fortune of having a too scantily clad for her age, physic and her cart set up right in front of us for business. She didn’t have any business, but did succeed in blocking our view of Diamond Head. I’m all for public beaches, but then don’t charge up the wazoo for cheap, uncomfortable chairs, with an umbrella that is stuck in the sand, and can’t be moved to block the changing sun throughout the day. Not their fault, but the last time I was at Waikiki Beach, I didn’t remember there being such vicious rock formations in the water. The water is so shallow, for so far out, that you can’t get out far enough, without a surfboard, or paddleboard, to avoid them. After the first day, we went in search of reef shoes. There were 2 fairly unrocky places along the beach, but 2 different commercial catamarans were constantly in and out, loading and unloading tourists. This action also made the water murky, making the often sharp rock formations difficult to impossible to see as you try to navigate out into the warm waters

My coworkers and I planned a team bonding event while they were visiting from the mainland. There were 7 of us so we chartered two boats for 1 hour and had a great time! Ted and Mike were awesome steersman and we were able to catch about 8 waves total in the hour. They are awesome at navigating through the hundreds of tourists swimming around in the water. It’s amazing how much control they have over their boats. They let you leave your bags and slippers behind their desk near the pool. My coworkers who were visiting had such a great time! It was a great team bonding event and a good learning experience too!

My group of friends and I did Outrigger here with Waikiki Beach Services and we had an amazing experience! We arrived at their booth, checked in and were immediately given instructions and some brief info about the agenda. So my group of friends are really competitive, so we were separated into two groups — since each outrigger can only have 5 passengers I believe. There were two instructors per outrigger, and we compete among each other on which team will catch a bigger wave or row faster. While we were out on the water, we also have a photographer that were taking pictures of us to capture these fun times. What’s really cool was that we also get a CD of photos given to us for free! It was really fun.

My 10 year old Granddaughter and her friend wanted to ride a canoe. we live in Hawaii, but dont own a canoe. we went down to the Royal Hawaiian and did a canoe ride. It was magical!!! we did Canoe Surfing. I was a hero, and my granddaughter wants to go again;-)

What an awesome group for ALL your ocean activities! From surf lessons to canoe surfing rides to SUP lessons and more, Ted, Barney, Mike and the rest of the crew have you covered! I have sent friends and family there for their boards and lessons for years and every single one has an amazing time!!! Mahalo Plenty Waikiki Beach Services!!!

Prices are reasonable but I should warn you, you can’t use the unbrella at the bottom part of the beach. Not sure why. Pretty much isolated my mom for that since we were all relaxing on the slope. Prices are the same as all the other places in the area it seems. Staff is friendly.

As a full group of seven, we took out an outrigger canoe. At first the ride a few hundred yards out seemed underwhelming, but then we caught our first wave back into the shore. The person behind me, a bit of a tough nut, exclaimed, «OK, that was pretty awesome». We went back out to catch a second wave and the captain starts saying, «Oh shit, we gotta move people». At the time I just chalked it up to theatrics. We starting riding the wave back in again like the first time, but this time the colossal wave engulfed our canoe and we sank! Now, the canoes are made of fiber glass so the still float just below the water. It was a tough ride in, but everyone enjoyed the adrenalin rush.
Tip: don’t sit in the very back, you will be asked to bail water.

John was my instructor for a one on one lesson and he was great. I would go back to him and take a second lesson.

DON’T BLINK, YOU MIGHT MISS A GREAT PLACE TO EXPERIENCE SURFING!
You have to find Duke’s restaurant in order to find the tiny little hut out of which Waikiki Beach Services operates. It’s on the ocean side of Duke’s, immediately in the Diamond Head direction after you leave Duke’s patio. Used them at least three times, and every time has been laid back and fun. These are the guys I use whenever my mainland friends want to come «take surf lessons.» The staff were laid back and friendly. Always got great attention from the instructors, and you WILL stand up on your first day. They provide long sleeved rash guards, and you’ll have the option of renting your board after your lesson (but you won’t want to because your arms will be pooped from paddling!). They do send out a guy with a camera to capture your water-​god surfing prowess, and you’ll have the option of purchasing a CD with your pics on it (for around $ 40). But you might be just fine if you have a relative or friend with a big lens (one that doesn’t want to surf, that is) sit on the beach and shoot you. I’ve done that plenty for my friends when they’re out for a visit.

We booked an outrigger canoe ride with Waikiki Beach Services. We had fun, I would probably do it again with them. Its a little hard to figure out where their tent is. We were being sent a million different directions. We had issue beforehand with our rental car that was going to make us miss our 3pm appt so I called and they were super helpful and pushed the appt back 30min.
The only thing I wasn’t super happy about was that the online website says that we dont have to worry about riding with strangers.

this wasn’t the case, when we were getting ready to leave the captain invited two people off the beach that i’m assuming he knew. since it was only my fiancé and I, I guessed that it would be easier with two other people so I didn’t complain. But it would of been better of the two older ladies that got on weren’t so snooty with their noses high in the air. It kind of killed my mood, especially after trying to make conversation and being shot down.
We caught two waves which was a lot of fun and the pictures they gave us were decent. The Captain himself was super nice and so was the other guy that was helping him
I would book again with them but only if I had a bigger group that way I don’t have to worry about random beezys acting like they own the world. :D

Scattering of Ashes at Sea
Waikiki Beach Services made it possible for me to arrange and conduct a simple, but beautiful and dignified ash scattering off of Waikiki. They operate out of a concession at the Royal Hawaiian (the Pink Hotel), but dont let that mislead you. The whole affair was handled with mindful soulful beach boys… dignity and Aloha …
It was permeated by a gentle magic… one of the paddlers mentioned their ancestor and the good company my relative would have in this locale… we actually caught a long wave on the way back to shore.
The owner, the staff and the beach boys were all experienced on the beach and in the ocean, they were also very warm and kind.
In my case, we used an outrigger canoe and I helped row… but many options are available for any kind of customization you may prefer (including staying on land).
I chose Waikiki Beach Services after contacting a number of businesses run by
Cap’t Dis n Dat, who just didn’t feel right… I couldn’t risk a mortified angry ancestor returning amid flaming pupus, and preachy platitudes!

I’ve been with this Wakiki Beach Services since 2006. They offer canoeing, surf lesson, and much more. Right in front of Duke’s restaurant by the light guard house. These local guys are nice and funny.
It’s only $ 10 for Paddle Canoeing with them, you got 2 rounds to the ocean & back. They made you paddle bad when less people. They yelled you left, change, right & stop. It’s a light good upper boy work out for sure.
They will try to sell you the CD film for $ 20, not the best quality, an don’t let you bring your camera on the canoe!
Oh, you got to run over the beginner surfers which was fun too!
