Travelex Currency Services

Let’s face it… you can shop around for the best exchange rates or you can just pay for the convenience and call it a day. I realize that there are other money exchange places that provide better exchange rates and lower service fees, but I just don’t have time to shop around and figure out where to park in Waikiki to get there. I could get my moolah from my bank, but I need to order the currency since they don’t regularly carry all types of foreign currency.
Travelex is conveniently located at Ala Moana Center and is open even on Sundays! I don’t have to worry about parking and I can also run other errands (including grabbing a bite to eat) while I’m at the shopping center. Also, Travelex has a pretty wide selection of international currency on hand. I was able to buy Japanese yen, Hong Kong dollars, Vietnamese dong, and Singapore dollars for my upcoming Southeast Asia trip in one visit. I can’t say the same about my bank or other money exchange places.
Yes, there is a service fee (less than $ 10) for buying currency under $ 500 total. Honestly though, I dont mind paying extra for the convenience. For total transactions of $ 500 or more, the service fee is waived. Despite complaints about poor customer service, I haven’t had any problems thus far. I previously used Travelex for my trip to Scandinavia & Russia and bought euros, Danish krones, and Russian rubles. The guy at the counter was super helpful and allowed me to purchase my foreign currency using my debit card. Seriously, so convenient, right?
Again, I am sure there are other places you can go to obtain your foreign currency with better exchange rates and lower service fees, but I am more than satisfied with the convenience of Travelex.

The rate here is pretty bad. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone at all unless you really need to exchange money right there and now.

No fee for military. Conveniently located. Carries all currencies needed. We got money for Philippines, Thailand, and Korea.
The front desk clerk was very friendly. We did not encounter any problems here.

Horrible horrible customer service! They lie and it does not phase them!!! Use other sources!!! If i could put negative stars I would just to emphasize the horrible service!!!

Still not the greatest rate, HOWEVER you can’t beat the convenience of being located in Ala Moana Shopping Center. Even though the ongoing construction has made parking at the mall a pain in arse, it’s still way more convenient than going to Waikiki.

The best part about Travelex is that they have a convenient location. So, if its an absolute emergency, you’re in town, and you need money exchanged RIGHT this minute, Travelex is an option.
However, if you’ve got time, turn around and go somewhere else!
— The rate is pretty bad here, it really is. I walked in, inquiring about getting Japanese Yen with the exchange rate near 100 yen/​dollar. The counter guy (rather rudely) said he’d only give me 88… when other places would give 96 or 97. Thanks, but no thanks.
+ Besides the convenience of the location (on the Macy’s Wing Level 2, near Folli Follie and J. Crew, you’ll see the United Airlines sign. They share an office), they do have a pretty comprehensive bank of currency behind the counter.
I don’t know what else to say? Besides the fact that I couldn’t recommend using the services here for regular currency exchange, it might be a lifesaver in an emergency. Perhaps Travelex will save me one day when I’m in a crazy ridiculous bind and need to convert my hard earned dollars to the Uruguayan Peso. Maybe. One day. (but I doubt it.)
