The Tooth Doctor

I was asked to change my appointment the day prior to when it was scheduled. I was asked to come in half an hour early. When I got there, I had to wait 10 minutes. This really made me feel like my time was not valuable. Once seen, the doctor gloved up, then moved her office chair. I found that unsanitary, and asked her to change her gloves. She refused and asked me to leave.
So, if you want to feel like your time is unimportant and that sanitation is secondary, this is the place for you.

I recently went to the Tooth Dr. based on the recommendation of fellow Unilocaler Jamie M. The office is located on the second floor in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center near McDonalds. They have office hours on Saturday making it convenient to be to fit in an appointment around work.
The dental hygienist who did my cleaning was quick and effective. I liked that she explained what she was doing but didn’t try and make conversation…(I hate when they do that! Your hand is in my mouth how am I supposed to answer?) Anyway Dr. Kim followed up the cleaning by looking at my teeth and ensuring I didn’t have any follow up questions. They set up your next appointment and send a reminder for your checkups… making it easy enough that even I won’t forget!

I highly recommend this place! I have been here for two cleanings, and the staff is very nice and professional. The first time I came, Dr. Ha Kim actually did my cleaning. My dentist back on the mainland had all the bells and whistles – digital cable in every room, granite counters, etc – but he never did the cleanings himself. The second time I went, the hygienist was cheerful and very thorough with the cleaning. This place is small, and it is not fancy like my old dentist, but the quality of service is great.
They allow Saturday appointments, which is awesome for people like me who have to work. Also, I recommended a friend, and the office sent me a Mickey D’s gift card and a thank you note in the mail. I didn’t expect that at all, and I thought it was a nice gesture.

Dr. Kim «The Tooth Doctor», her dental assistant, and her receptionist are simply top of the line professionals. No one likes going to the dentist, myself included, but these folks know how to make you feel at ease and take the absolute best care of your mouth. I had been putting off dental work for over a decade as everyone I had seen prior to Dr. Kim either made me feel awful or guilty at the state of my teeth or for not getting work done sooner.
From day 1, Dr. Kim never made me feel guilty or ashamed of my teeth. Quite the opposite in fact! What I had been so embarrassed about turned out to be next to nothing, and the restoration and repair was so painless and professional that I was astounded at how terrible the other dentists made me feel! You could just see the compassion in her eyes and that she shared my pain of having to suffer for so long for nothing.
I would absolutely and highly recommend Dr. Kim and her staff. The atmosphere is relaxing, the professionalism is top notch, and you can guarantee the absolute best care and treatment plan for your teeth! It is very easy to tell that she is a natural and has a real passion for her craft. Other establishments would do well to take a page from her notebook on what true aloha and pride in your work will bring.
I wish her all the luck in the world and will continue to send all of my friends and family to her. Thank you for changing how I will forever look at dentistry and dentists in general!

Got a very quick appointment… like in 2 days!
They were actually the only dentist in hawaii kai who answered their phone on a monday morning.
Dr Ha Kim was great… she did xray and saw i needed a root canal.
She gave lot of info/​options, patched me up in no time with a temp filling and made an appointment with another specialist to get the root canal done.
Will come back here to get the crown afterwards.
Now, does anyone know where I can get some good dental insurance;)? LOL!
