We ate here three separate times in our short stay on Waikiki. The sandwiches are fresh, delicious and reasonably priced(about $ 4 a sandwich and $ 2 for a half liter bottle of soda). The hours are limited, but the lady who runs it is kind, and makes each sandwich right in front of you. When we return to Honolulu we will definitely return to The Sandwich Shop. We aware that they accept cash only.

Sammiches are wonderful. A endless variety to be had. Ham and cheese on white. Tuna on wheat. The classic PB&J on… well, anything! And there are a lot of places creating new sandwiches that really push the boundaries on what you can put between two pieces of bread… and that’s not bad! But coming to The Sandwich Shop is like stepping into your mother’s kitchen. The ingredients are simple. The bread is fresh. And the smiles are unlimited. And that’s exactly what I love about this place. I got the ½ tuna, ½ ham sandwich as I was looking for a quick and simple bite before work. They use Japanese-style shokupan, which is softer, chewier, and a little thicker than regular white. This is the kind of bread you WANT to make french toast with, btw. While the Sandwich Shop lady was doing her magic, she asked me if I wanted the crusts cut off. IMMEDIATELY I felt like I was 8-years old again. For a second I couldn’t answer as years of nostalgia came rushing back. Finally, I was able to utter… yes, please… in the smallest voice ever, as if I had to look up at her like I had to do with my mom as she towered over me. Price for the sandwich, about $ 3.50. Not only tasty, but one of the best deals in Waikiki. Be careful as they close at 3pm and ONLY accept cash. GOGOGO. 31 Unilocal Review Challenge — October 2012 #3/31

Simple, cheap, no-nonsense custom made sandwiches. Prices range from $ 3-$ 4. Good amount of meat and fresh crisp veges make this tiny shop an affordable place to eat in Waikiki. She also cuts off the crusts. BIGPLUS!

I almost feel guilty having taken the last chicken breast sandwich of the day but not really. I’d have to thank fellow Unilocalers for leading me to the sandwich lady. I work right across the street and come here all the time but I’ve never paid any attention to this shop but attention caught! She makes her sandwiches to order and being that she’s the only employee, there is a slight wait. The chicken was seasoned to perfection. It was in no way bland. And not salty either. The cheese also gave it the extra hint of saltiness it needed and I loved all the veggies you get. This isn’t subway so don’t expect much but for what this place is, I’m very much impressed. I’m def going to come back to try other sandwich specials n her soups are good too and portioned nicely for 2.75sm. I only wish this place had panini sandwiches. She’ll see my face everyday!

If you are looking for a home made sandwich at a decent price, this is your place. Nothing fancy, loaf white or wheat, cash only, but good sandwiches

I love the sandwich lady, Melissa. She shares a space with Aliana’s in the Waikiki Shopping Plaza Food Court — lower level. If you’re on a budget and looking for a yummy lunch in waikiki you have to see her. Her sandwiches are super reasonable ranging from $ 2-$ 5. She usually has two soups daily. My favorite is the French Onion on Tuesday. She also has a special of the day and Hawaiian food on Friday. My coworkers swear by her desserts and spam musubis. Go early because she usually sells out of the good stuff by 1:30/2. Must try: club sandwich or the petites. yum! Tip: She only takes cash. If you order your club sandwich without the middle bread she’ll give you a discount.

ONE-WOMANSHOW There’s a cute lady who runs the show at The Sandwich Shop; she does everything from buying the ingredients to taking your order and making your sandwich. In other words, it’s a one-woman show! She makes the sandwiches right before your eyes. «She don’t make it til you order.» Unless you’d like to buy the pre-made ones that she made earlier that same day. She makes the pre-made ones each day and throws out the leftovers, so you knowww her ish is freeessshhhhh! SANDWICHSHOPSELLSSANDWICHES The Sandwich Shop is exactly that — a sandwich shop. The menu is light, but I don’t mind: Choose from Japanese white or wheat bread and the type of goods you’d like on your sammie. She can make just about anything, or choose from her menu: Egg Salad, Chicken Salad, Bacon Avocado, Salami, Club, etc. All range from about $ 3 — 4. The most expensive is the Crab Club at $ 4.50 — a small price to pay for the quality. **FYI — Not a fan of the crust? She will de-crust your sandwich if you’d like. There are also 2 daily soups(Monday — Friday) and other random essentials like juice, tea, spam musubis, salads, and more. CLUB Of the sandwiches listed, I had the pleasure of trying the Club on wheat. I loved the crispness of the bacon and the freshness of all the other ingredients! I would definitely order this again, but I’ve heard magical things about the Chicken Avocado. Perhaps I’ll get two sandwiches next time… One was not enough to satisfy my endless pit of a stomach. And for only $ 4 bucks a pop, why not?! LOCATION The Sandwich Shop is located in the Waikiki Shopping Plaza food court. If you know where Ailana Shave Ice is, The Sandwich Shop shares the same space. It’s across of GRYLT, formerly Taco Bell and its seating area. As for parking, I haven’t the slightest clue… Validated parking at Royal Hawaiian? That might just be your best bet. VERDICT I highly recommend The Sandwich Shop if you’re looking for a delicious, inexpensive and fairly healthy lunch. I am totally hooked and am dying to try the soups and a few of the other sandwiches here. There is no better deal around! Trust! Cash ONLY Unilocal 365 — #202/365

For a cheap, good, and fresh sandwich go to the Sandwich shop! I went the other day for my first time and got a ham, avocado, sprouts, tomato, and cheese sandwich on Watanabe wheat bread. It was delicious and only $ 3.50! They had some soups and desserts available too. CASH only!

great service, and really cheap for waikiki prices. She freshly makes everything everyday. I’m not sure where she buys her bread from, but it’s really delicious. Does anyone know what brand her bread is?(some japanese kanji on it)

Definitely one of my favorite go to places for a cheap and tasty lunch. Service is fast, friendly, and very efficient. Their sandwiches are so, so tasty… and cheap. It definitely is great especially when you’re in Waikiki where prices get all jacked up. If you go early enough, they sometime have mini plates or lunch specials. I love their salmon and furikaki plate and their spaghetti is pretty darn tasty. They also have some pretty yummy Spam musubis just in case you’re not in a sandwichey mood. Great place to drop by if you’re in the area!

As far as Waikiki is concerned, I usually don’t venture in for food unless it’s with a group of friends. Usually, my friends will pick something more well known like Cheesecake Factory. Usually when I pick out food, I like it to be more special and hopefully inexpensive– you know, ma and pa type businesses. Well, I finally did some venturing of my own in Waikiki, trying to find the newest and most interesting holes in the walls. I stumbled upon the gem that is simply«The Sandwich Shop,» located in the downstairs foodcourt of the Waikiki Shopping Plaza. I immediately like it’s no-BS name. So I walked in and looked at their menu. All their sandwiches range from around $ 3 to $ 4 dollars, that’s 7-Eleven prices right there. They also have neat little«petites» that are only $ 1.65, these petites are mini sandwiches in a butter roll! Very cute, I will have to try one of these when I need a quick snack. So I ordered the Chicken Avocado Sandwich. Like Cinnabon or Subway, they let you watch them prepare your food. The chicken was pre-prepared and the avocado was freshly cut right in front of me. I got a full flavored sandwich– it included tomatoes, lettuce, and alfalfa sprouts. The person working there asked if I’d like to have the crust cut off, cute touch. Very tastey with a price that can’t be matched. A refreshing change from more bourgeois sandwich shops like Andy’s and Storto’s. I included a bunch of photos of this adventure, by the way.
