Best spicy papaya salad I have eaten at any Thai restaurant. And the best part is they open at 10am.

Thai House has great lunch specials for $ 9.95. The special includes rice and a soft drink. And includes a salad with a piece of their speciality fried chicken wing.
What’s in a name?: So I get a super secret invitation from Lori I. to come to Thai House to celebrate the birthday of one of Honolulu’s most famous Unilocal Masters, Val Y. So I show up in the Market City parking lot looking for Thai House. Only Thai place I see is «Thai Issan». I look on the window and the Specials Menu is exactly the same as the one I saw on Unilocal.Must be the place. «Issan» is a region in Thailand. I only know because of wikipedia. So FYI this place has a sign saying«Thai Issan». Not this sign: Food: I was impressed by looking at everyone’s specials. Next time I will probably get that. Since we were ordering individually I got the Eggplant Tofu. Plus, I got some sticky rice and a Thai iced coffee. Very nice and filling lunch for me. I liked it and think I would like to come back and try more items at dinner time. Everyone seemed to agree that the lunch specials were a great value. Best Part: It was not crowded for lunch but they had reserved a big table for us. We were able to sit and talk without pressure until we were ready to leave. Imagine: Since Lori I was there we started talking about gelato. So I get to thinking… Now if Thai House were to serve«Il Gelato» gelato for dessert… hmmm… That would great to cool you down after the spicy Thai food. Perhaps a «Mango Sticky Rice» flavor gelato might just be five stars at Thai House. Surprise: Val Y was in fact surprised and not too embarrassed. He thought he was having lunch with only Lori. Turned out to be a very nice time. Thank you, Lori I !!

Thai House is now one of our favorite Thai restaurants. The prices are very reasonable. My only complaint is that the place is really spicy. The mild burns! Our standard order whenever we eat Thai is Spring Rolls, Panang Chicken Curry, Sticky Rice and maybe other variable dish. Tonight we had Tom Kha soup and it was delicious. The food came out super fast and we were in and out of the restaurant in less than an hour. Our water was refilled constantly(we needed it!!) so service was great. The restaurant is clean and one downside is that it does not have a rest room. You have to go to the one all the way down the other side of the mall next to Anytime Café. Lastly, they do not have any alcohol but allow you to BYOB. Overall, this is one of the better Thai places on the East side of town.

Thai House has become my new go-to place whenever I have a hankering for Thai food. The food is consistently delicious & you always get a good amount of food, at a real affordable price(I never have issues when it comes to paying more for good food, but why pay more for the same thing?). AND it’s BYOB, hunnay! I’ve been here on many occasions and service has never been an issue. I’ve brought my family here a few times. The service is consistent whether they were dealing with my large party of 12(bless their heart, they busted they butts tending to us) or party of 2. LARB(item #33, $ 9.95): A spicy meat salad served w/cabbage and lettuce for wrapping. You have a choice between ground pork, chicken or beef. The ground meat is sauteed w/onions(green and white), herbs, spices, fish sauce and lime juice. Ask for«Lao’s Style» if you want the larb cooked the w/fish sauce, shrimp paste and lime juice(think of it as a sort of meat ceviche). That’s the only way I prefer to eat my larb. That’s how most people like to order it as well. Getting it «Thai Style» would result in ground beef cooked w/cloves, star anise and/or cinnamon. Trust me, it’s not as good as Lao’s-style larb. BEEFLARB: Delicious! I never get tired of this dish! Just the right amount of tang from the lime juices, the right amount of seasoning from the fish sauce. GROUNDPORK&BEEFLARB mix: I prefer my larb without the white and green onions. It still tastes just as good! PADSEEEW/SEIEW(w/beef, $ 8.95): Meaning«fried w/soy sauce». Thick flat rice noodles are stir-fried w/broccoli, egg and garlic in a tasty soy-based sauce. I always prefer this dish over the usual Pad Thai that most people like because the sauce isn’t as sweet as the pad thai sauce. The beef is cooked perfectly, resulting in tender bites of meaty goodness. The noodles were cooked soft enough to hold onto the sauce, but still has the right amount of chewiness to it. Always consistently delicious(I order this every visit). HOUSEFRIEDCHICKEN($ 8.95): Marinated pieces of chicken fried to a golden deliciousness! If you’re lucky, your plate might end up with a drumstick! The best one I’ve had yet in a Thai restaurant(with Kalihi’s Thai Town Café being a close 2nd). I could taste a hint of lemongrass and ginger in each bite. Arrives piping hot, so be careful! Kenny mentioned that it’s very similar to Phuket Thai’s fried chicken, but cheaper! THAISTUFFEDCHICKENWINGS($ 9.25): Wings are deboned, its meat chopped up and mixed w/mushrooms, carrots, long rice and then stuffed back into the wings. I’ve had stuffed wings at other places(Champa Thai, Chiang Mai’s, Siam Garden), this is the best one yet. They don’t skimp on the stuffing & the fried coating stays crunchy even after it gets cold. The seasoning is very mild, so make full use of the sweet thai sauce that comes with it. Or just order the HOUSEFRIEDCHICKEN! lol! SOMTUM(Green Papaya Salad, $ 7.95): This is the dish that covers all 4 main flavors of Thai cusine: 1) salty(fish sauce) 2) sour(lime juice) 3) sweet(palm sugar) 4) spicy(thai chilies) Shredded raw papaya is mixed w/chopped tomatoes, long beans, garlic & Thai chilies. Their special house tamarind sauce is added to give this salad an extra layer of flavor. PADPEDHOI(Spicy Clams, $ 10.95): Fresh Manila clams sauteed w/onions, basil & bell peppers in a chili oyster sauce. There’s no hot chilies in here, just bell peppers. Nothing spicy about it, but it was really tasty and reminded me of Chinese black bean clams. YUM! PADMA-KUEA(Eggplant Tofu, $ 8.95): Sauteed w//fresh basil & Thai yellow bean sauce(yellow soy beans). I liked that it wasn’t sour and vinegary. Just an overall tasty dish. TODMUNPLA($ 9.25): Fried fish patties. I would skip this dish. Nothing special about it. Check out there lunch specials! Keep in mind, you only get 1 piece of their HOUSEFRIEDCHICKEN.

Two Friday’s ago, I met up with my friend for a meal after work for Pau Hana Friday. Didn’t know where to go, but I remember one of my friends on Facebook mentioned a dish at this place, so I decided I must try. The dish I had to try was their«Drunken Noodles». Ended up getting the Drunken Noodles with Beef, and the Drunken Noodles with Chicken. I would say the best way to describe the«Drunken Noodle» dish is… it basically taste like the Chinese Chow Fun Noodles, only difference is the Drunken Noodle is spicy. The texture of the noodles is similar to the Chinese Chow Fun too. We also ordered a appetizer — The«House Combination Platter» — which consisted some some kind of Coconut Chicken on a skewer, Fried Calamari, Fishcake, Fried Shrimp, & Spring Roll. Not bad… The food was good, & I would have given it a «4», but I had to down graded this place to a «3», due to poor service. Our waitress was not friendly, did not fill my glass of water on timely basis, as a lot of times it would be empty for a very long time. Also, when the dipping sauce was left for us, I asked her about the sauces, as I did not know what they were for, but got no explanation. The price was very reasonable, and the food portions were generous. There is lots of parking for this restaurant, as the restaurant is located in the Market City Shopping Center, right next door to the Foodland Supermarket.

I have had my fair share of thai food, and really didn’t like some of the food at Thai house. The chicken satay was too salty, and the peanut sauce tasted weird. The pad phet(usually called evil jungle prince at other restaurants) was actually kinda gross… I can’t explain the taste, but local pad phet is my absolute favorite, even though I know the authentic thai version of pad phet is nothing like the sweet coconutty, cabbagey curry I’m used to here in hawaii. The only decent dish was the pad thai. The worst part of my experience at thai house was the waitresses. My brother at I came in at about 5pm, and the restaurant was empty. There was one waitress. There was a shift change while we were having dinner. For about 10 – 15 minutes, the waitress who came in was carrying on about some incident with another girl. She was dropping f-bombs every 20 seconds. Between the f-bombs, she used other curse words. It was really inappropriate. Especially since my brother and I could hear the entire conversation(she was upset about whatever had happened and was talking VERY loudly) and we were the only patrons in the restaurant. The first waitress left soon after the second girl’s rant and the restaurant was significantly more quiet. I will definitely not be back. Not for the food, nor for the service.

I’ve been craving good Thai food for a while now. ever since I went to Thailand in April. so my friends and I decided to check out this place the other week. It’s located next to Foodland at Market City so there’s ample parking. The place isn’t very big but has a nice décor. I went there with two friends and we shared 2 orders of sticky rice, 1 order of pad thai, and an order of panang curry. You are able to choose the spiciness of your food and we chose mild because we can’t handle too much spice. Unlike some places where mild becomes somewhat bland, their mild is still filled with flavor and has a slight spice to it. The pad thai was one of the better ones I’ve had. probably the best I’ve had in Hawaii. The panang curry was also very good. I’ve tried various types of Thai curries but never had panang curry before so I can’t really compare this curry to other panang curries but it was definitely a good one. I also liked the price of the food. I believe it came out to about $ 24 for the 3 of us. The only bad-ish thing about this place is that the service is a little slow. It wasn’t very busy(maybe 4 – 5 occupied tables including us) but like I said the place isn’t very big and there was only one server working. We waited quite a while for the server to come for our check and refill our waters. Despite the service, I understand that it varies and I’ll definitely be back… next time I’ll be sure to check out the desserts: D

I came to Thai House for some Pad Thai. I had also heard that the Thai coffee was«to die for», so I ordered that too. I was a little less than impressed with my pad Thai. I’ve had pad Thai from a handful of places. It’s my favorite Thai dish. The noodles in this pad Thai were oily and had no flavor, even though I ordered it with chicken. I also ordered it with little spiciness(I can never gauge how spicy thedifferent restaurants will make it so I start off with medium spiciness or mild spiciness) but usually I like my food really spicy. When I ate the pad Thai, there was no spice at all, so it was just oily noodles. As for the Thai coffee, for me, it just tasted like medicine. It was just their coffee that the girl poured two coffee creamers into in front of me. I’d be a little more likely to give three stars if the staff were at least nice, but it seemed like the two girls were more preoccupied talking to a guy that was sittingby himself at table. They were not very concerned or welcoming to my boyfriend and I the whole time we were in there. I’m giving two stars because the food wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t anything special, and the people there were very detached and unwelcoming. I probably will not come back here.

I’m not a Thai connoisseur by any means. I don’t even consider myself a Thai food fan. But, with the help of the BF and my friends, I have been more open and have found it increasingly enjoyable. They help to discredit the false stereotype that everything is spicy. I’d like to give this place some credit for OPENINGMYEYES to the GREATBIGWONDERFULWORLDOFTHAIFOOD. Convenient location. Cheap food. Comes out fast. For 6 of us, we shared the plates family style, and it costed about 10 dollars each, with some leftovers. SCORE!!! Following their lead, we ordered some of the basics. Because when you are trying a place for the first time, you wanna see how well they do at their basics. Summer rolls –typical, peanut sauce was ok. Masaman curry — Loved! The coconut milk was not overpowering. I could probably have slurped it up if I didn’t have to share. Eggplant salad — Loved! lots of eggplant included Pad siewe and Pad Thai –great seasoning, consistency, and amount My stomach felt satisfied after without the greasy feeling. Also, the place is a welcome quiet atmosphere to the chaos outside that is Market City. Really insulates from the loud noises.

Went back again & this time ordered take-out … green papaya salad, green curry tofu, panang tofu and jasmine rice … all were good and tasty !! note: I recommend taking a plastic container in your car to hold it in — plastic bags leak through & fish sauce in your car is no fun :(

I had seen the restaurant with quite a few people in it a few weeks ago and was excited to have a new Thai restaurant nearby. I was surprised when we arrived at what should have been the dinner rush hour to find an empty restaurant. There are 12 tables inside and 5 were dirty and not set. The girl quickly acknowledged us and told us to choose a table. We knew what we wanted, but had to wait a fair amount of time to place our order. We ordered chicken pad thai, red chicken curry, spring rolls and calamari. I’ve had better pad thai at Ba-le! I was disappointed in it. The red curry was extremely spicy. I should have requested that the tame it down being that there were two children on my table. It was inedible for both of them. The spring rolls were ok. Nothing to write home about. The calamari tore my mouth up. It was tough and coated with something that really did a number on the roof of my mouth. The sticky rice was served in a cute basket that she brought to the table. We had to ask her what it was. Getting a glass of water refilled was difficult at best. The girl at the register was too busy singing and dancing behind the register to realize there were customers in the restaurant. She filled up her own Thai tea at least 3 times while we were there. We were begging for water and ended up sharing at the table. How hard is it to pour a glass of water? While we were there there was one take out order and one take out Thai tea. That was it. We thought it was odd that the restaurant was so dead. As I left, I knew I more than likely wouldn’t be going there again. An hour later, I noticed my stomach was hurting… ALOT. I’ve been in bed since yesterday with nausea and stomach problems. Can’t tell you if it was from there or not, but I can guarantee you, I won’t be going back. My daughter didn’t have any of the curry and seems fine. My son had a little and hasn’t been feeling well since last night too. Also might want to note, the restaurant was raided by the FBI last week for that big gambling operation in Honolulu. Maybe that’s why the place was empty?

This new Thai restaurant took up residence at the old Quiznos location in the Market City Shopping center, right next to the Foodland and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Kaimuki. Never did like Quiznos, so this Thai place is a refreshing addition to the spirit of the shopping center as a whole. The menu is like other«authentic Thai» restaurants that has alot of seafood and curries to meet everyone’s fancy. The thing I liked about this place is that the menu has an extensive appetizer selection. Being that this may just be just another Thai restaurant, I just came here and ordered take out and decided to do a sit down session later. I basically got the green curry with sticky rice once. Basic meal that was pretty awesome. I got the Thai hot, since I love the hot stuff and I didn’t want to bother with anything else. There are lunch specials from 10am to 3pm Monday through Friday, but since I don’t work in and around Kapuhulu, I can’t take advantage of this opportunity, even with a car driving from Kalihi. With that said, the prices on the menu were just about average with each entrée about $ 10 a piece. The portions — at least for the curry was good and you could use it for leftovers for 3 or so servings when you have nothing else to eat. I can’t comment on the service per say, but the take out service was good and average. Average wait time was 10 – 15 minutes, depending on how full the dining room was at any point of time during meal service. I will need to go here for regular dine in service to experience what it would be like to sit down and enjoy Thai at its authentic roots. The restaurant itself is very clean and the ambiance was nice. I look forward to tasting all the curries they have and I just adore the sticky rice. While this place is just an average place with average to good service, the jury is still out on what is considered good. They try to be upscale with their service, but it’ll be average to me. The décor is quite nice though. B

It was a cold Hawaiian night and after having dinner with friends at Market City, when the need for eggs, chicken, and red peppers arose and I walked over to Foodland and friends and I saw Thai House and thought«we should try that next week.» Ok, I lied… when is it ever cold in Honolulu and the need was for vodka, chips, and frozen pizza. Anyway, back to my review. Thai House joins the culinary marketplace that is making up Market City and while it certainly stands out as being the only Thai establishment there, that’s pretty much where it uniqueness ends. They offer decent food at expected pricing with decent service that make it a good choice, however nothing truly stellar or amazing. The menu is certainly more authentic than many of its counterpart, however the flavors seem muted and lacking the final punch that could make the dishes great. The summer rolls were decent, however I found the rice paper a tad to dry and the house sauce(peanut sauce) just a tad under-seasoned. The chicken sateh was decently prepared, and flavorful while showcasing just the right moist center of the meat. The green papaya salad was decent, however the dressing just needed a pinch more salt to make the flavors pop out. The chicken pad thai was quite stellar with a nice balance of flavors that you would come to expect and very well-cooked noodles that weren’t mushy nor still had a bit of crunch showing it was under-cooked. It was probably the highlight of the meal and one of the reasons that I’d come back for more. The beef larb was well seasoned, however didn’t showcase the beef flavors. The green curry was decently prepared, however the spice flavors were certainly muted so plan to go one level higher than you normally would get. Desserts were decent with fresh fruit being plentiful, however it certainly wasn’t a highlight nor was it anything special. I’d probably pass and walk over to formaggio for a bite to mute out the saltiness of the meal with something sweet. Service was decent with the staff being fairly attentive. Water glasses went empty on occasion but never for long. Food arrived quickly and in a good progression that slowly got our group full. Prices are certainly decent and the portion size average. All in all, it was a decent dining experience. Nothing truly stellar and at the same time didn’t disappoint.

fairly new thai place located in Market City shopping center were the old Quizno’s used to be. Food was pretty good, a little pricey compared to the other Thai restaurants I’ve been but the taste was there. don’t know if it’s B.Y.O.B didn’t see a sign because I know most thai restaurants are known to have it. will have to eat here and give this place another try and oreder other entrees on their menu other than my usually panang and pad thai noodles!

We were seated quickly on a Friday evening and it was almost a full house. The waitress said we could sit anywhere. No one gave us stink eye for bringing in our infant daughter. Tom yum shrimp soup was really good, flavorful, with just enough citrus and lots of spice; fried flounder was excellent, Thai stuffed chicken — tasted like packaged or frozen and didn’t do anything for me; golden calamari was decent, pad Thai chicken was pretty good. I could have done without the vacuum that was in the main dining area throughout our entire meal but at least it means they clean the floors, right? I would definitely go back with the family though. :)

BOOM, outta nowhere! Where did this place even come from? Quizno’s in Market City quietly closes its doors, and suddenly there’s this little Thai place with classy décor for those dining in, and takeout menus on the window for those on the run. There are a lot of Thai places(or Thai-inspired, a la Spices) for us to choose from, but once in a while is a gem like this, that really gets it right. I’m NOT a Thai expert. If you want to talk about«genuine» or «traditional» Thai food, I’m all ears, but I do NOT know what’s right and wrong… yet. However, I do know that this food is right by me. The spread is varied, and each dish comes out with a broad array of colors in green peppers, red chilis, yellow-green lemongrass, and a bunch of orange and brown and golden components I couldn’t possibly name. Visually, this is a stunning place, even when you open that styrofoam takeout container. Flavors here are stunning, and each dish I’ve tried has been very impressive. In the past week, we’ve been here three times, and have ordered the fried spring rolls(with honey fish sauce), summer rolls(with creamy peanut sauce), pad thai(possibly the best I’ve had, save for Sala Thai), tom yum(spicy, and with a heavier mouthfeel), and #40, which is called something like Emperor Spice or King Spice or Fricking Amazing. Previously, I’ve held Sala Thai as the only SE-Asian place that could actually do damage to me, in terms of spiciness. Kyle H and Mike W will always give me crap(pun somewhat intended) about the inevitable«Ring of Fire» that brings spicy food memories back to me, days after the actual ingestion. Nonetheless, I love it, and I’ll always be searching for the next level. That said, the first two times I had a Thai Spicy dish at Thai House were in takeout form, and I either ate in my car or at home. Halfway through the meal, I felt a wetness on my cheeks and realized… that I was crying. Out of sheer physiological response, my eyes started tearing from the spice, and I looked like a panty. Sure, I’ve cried over food before(like I did in the bathroom, the first time I had Blazin’ Sauce at Buffalo Wild Wings a couple years ago). However, this is the first time I’ve started crying without even realizing it was happening. To lend a SINGLE critical point, the food here tends to be slightly more oily than you’d expect, but it doesn’t significantly detract from the overall quality and flavor. Anyway, spiciness is NOT Thai House’s point of attraction, so all you non-spicy-food-lovers(read: losers) should give it a try anyway. They use strong herbs and flavors to bring out the best in each dish, and I am eager to keep on plowing through the menu. Given that it’s two minutes away from my house, I believe I can finish it within a couple of months(and probably might). It’s been kind of slow in there the past couple of times I visited, so get in there and give them business! I want this place to stay!

The only reason I came here was because of Lori I’s 5 star review. That’s how much trust I put in her. ;) It was 7pm on a Saturday night, and as my hubby and I walked toward the restaurant, we noticed that it was empty except for one person eating solo. Well, at least we don’t need reservations and don’t have to wait for a table. :) We tried 3 items on the menu — pad thai with chicken, eggplant with chicken, and spring rolls. When the spring rolls landed on our table, the first thing my hubby said was«this doesn’t look like the picture». I had to laugh since Ivan B. had made that same comment in his review. So I tell my hubby«that’s ok, I like the smaller spring rolls anyway». They were delish! The eggplant chicken was a great choice too, although I feel like they skimped on the chicken. The pad thai by far was the highlight of the meal for me. Yummy goodness! It was not swimming in oil and fish sauce like at some places, but it was way more flavorful than Bangkok Chefs. I did have to dig around to find the chicken, but I would still consider this to be one of the best pad thais I’ve had. They are still giving 15% off as part of their grand opening special. Looks like a great place for take out because we saw at least two people getting take out while we were there.

Living in Kaimuki, I always go to Foodland and then I saw that this new Thai place was opening right next door where Quiznos used to be. Since I love all asian foods I knew I was going to have to try this place. It just opened a few days ago and so there was also a 15% off grand opening special. When we walked in it was small inside, but had a nice feeling to it. The decorations were nice and I really like the flowers on the table and the small glass lights above them. It wasn’t loud and the waiter was very nice to us. She gave us a free appetizer, but I could not catch the name of what it was. It was this light stringy stuff, but i really liked the sauce it came with. I came with friends so we tried a few different things. We first ordered their spring rolls, which we noticed were smaller than the picture they advertised, but still tasted very delicious. One of my friends got the fried rice and my other friend ordered the pad seelew. Both were also very tasty and flavorful. Now when it was my time to order I wanted the green curry. When my food came though I got chicken instead of the beef that I had ordered. I just kindly asked them to fix it and they gladly did. I did not take it too hard because I know that since they only just opened this place that it would be understandable that they make little mistakes. So when my correct beef green curry came out I really liked it. The sauce had the right amount of spicy to it and it went perfectly with the sticky rice. We had also ordered Thai iced teas and iced coffees which were both amazing. Overall I really liked this place because it had a nice atmosphere, good service, and great food. The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars was because my order had a little mix up, but I also noticed how some things took a little long to come to the table. The prices were average, having everyone spend at least $ 10, but usually no more than $ 15. My friends and I see potential in this place and hopefully it will stay.
