Business Owner

Born and raised in East Honolulu, Tamara has always had a passion for plants and design. After first expressing her love of design in the field of landscape architecture, earning her BSLA from Colorado State University, and working at firms in Colorado and Honolulu, Tamara wanted to work with her hands and see ideas more quickly realized. This led her to experimenting with plants and flowers as a medium, and in 2009 she founded Tamara Rigney Designs out of an extra office in her grandmother’s Paiko beach home. At this time she began creating the floral displays for DFS Galleria Waikiki (now T Galleria), where her goal was, and still is, to distill the beauty of Hawaii into living art. In late 2012 with the help of close friend Courtney Monahan, Tamara decided to take her concept of ‘art from nature’ to the form of a retail shop, and after much hard work, lucky timing, and help from friends, Paiko was born in Kaka’ako.
