Sung S Yang, MD

i thought I was the only one who received poor service from Dr Yang, but it seems that he’s this way to everyone. I thought he didn’t like me because I was black and a girl. The first time I saw him was to treat some dizziness and shortness of breath due to anxiety. When I was sitting in the room waiting for him be burst into the door so loudly which triggered my anxiety, but he did not seem to care. After listening to my symptoms he very quickly tried to prescribe me some hard anti-​anxiety medications. Like he literally whipped out his prescription pad so fast and was ready to write me one and get me the hell out of his office. When I said I wasn’t interested in taking pills, he seemed kind of irritated and then just suggested I get some exercise and sleep and kinda quickly ended the session. I’m glad I saw him when I had Quest so I didn’t have to pay for this kind of indifference.

I have been a pt of Dr. Yang’s for several years and have seen him for various health care issues. He is very knowledgable and professional and spent a lot of time with me. I really like the fact that he is located in a convenient area of Waikiki, with a modern, clean office with lots of validated parking. I can always get in, right away, to see him. Every time i went, his clientele was tourists and locals, and his lovely staff is very inviting. I am very critical of the knowledge of my doctors and Dr Yang is Excellent. He also speaks Korean fluently. If you need a good Dr in Waikiki, i highly recommend Dr Yang.

I take my mother to see Dr. Yang and I agree completely. My mother had severe blood pressure issues and he was the only one available to see her right away that takes her insurance. When we got to the appointment he wouldn’t even look at my mom until the insurance was cleared, it took an hour. He ignores our answers to his questions and is short tempered when we have questions of our own. He’s been through 5 receptionists in the past year and they are getting steadily less qualified. The current one tried to take my moms blood pressure with her jacket on then held her arm up? Very strange. We’ve had conflicting medications prescribed (caught by his associate and remedied, the other time they called in the wrong meds and the pharmacy caught it.) He’s very rude to us and before reading the other complaints I thought he just didn’t like us because we’re Samoan, guess he’s like that with everybody. His offices are dirty and don’t have any equipment. The Waipahu staff is friendly but the main office in Waikiki which handles appointments and prescriptions is unprofessional and incompetent. We’re switching.

I completely agree with the previous comment by Ivan on 12 July. Dr. Yang is a primary care physician for my uncle. I have went to several appointments with my uncle and have witnessed first hand, the very poor patient service. Dr. Yang always seem rushed and is very abrupt and impersonal. You get the feeling he’s just trying to squeeze in as many patients as possible and doesn’t really give you the personal attention you would expect from your primary care physician. He asks questions, doesn’t seem to listen to the response, and rapidly barks out instructions without checking to see if the patient understood.
The only reason we have not switched doctors is because Dr. Yang is the only Korean speaking primary care physician we could find for my uncle. However, we’re thinking that this may not make up for his poor patient service and currently trying to find another primary care physician.

This is my first time writing a review for any internet rating or review service, but I felt that it was necessary because of the treatment and level of respect I felt given from Dr. Yang was very poor.
I had moved from Waimanalo to Ewa and was looking for a genuine PCP (Primary Care Provider) that was nearby, and would accept my insurance. After doing my research I had found three PCP’s, Dr. Yang seemed like the best option at the time.
My first visit there I had meet a great Doctor who had to take Doctor Yang’s position because he was on vacation for a few days. Great lady very nice, and genuine. We had scheduled a follow up appointment with Doctor Yang for when he does return for an ear problem I had, and primarily for my shoulder that dislocated four years ago and got worse over the years.
On my second visit to the office I was told by Doctor Yang to come in that day before the office was closed, when I had called him in complaints of my ear being more irritated from the medication the previous doctor had prescribed me. Excited, and ready to meet my new Doctor. Who I thought was going to take primary care for my medical needs the next few years I was planning on living in Ewa. Only to come across, I felt another Doctor who just wants to get there day over with.
When I had got there I was met with a very hesitant and rushed Doctor Yang. Who briefly talked about my shoulder injury, quickly examined my ear, walked me over to the next room to put hydrogen peroxide in my ear, and told me he would be back in 5 to 10 minutes. With very little information, laying down on my side and peroxide in my ear for over 15 minutes, after he had clearly said he would be back in 5 – 10 minutes, and no other patients that would occupy his time. I had already started to contemplate about looking for a new doctor. After cleaning out my ear he had referred me to Pali Momi for an X-​Ray and scheduled a follow up appointment which I couldn’t make until today. The day I decided to find a new Primary Care Provider, and to write this review because of the same type of treatment from the last visit I was given by Doctor Yang. Rushed, Not Heard, Unsure, and treated with very little dignity.
