Queen’s Outpatient Physical Therapy

Hurt? Injured? Rehabilitating? Trying to recover from any chronic or acute medical issue that requires physical therapy is a pain in the arse (in addition to the affected part)!
I’ve had my share of really good physical therapy centers and some really, REALLY bad ones, so therefore I feel «qualified» to share my experiences. After a debilitating shoulder and back injury that both required surgery, I’ve gone to multiple PT centers and physical therapists and I can absolutely SCREAM and SHOUT this all ‘oer the mountaintops — Queen’s Outpatient Physical Therapy IS the best on the island of Oahu!
I have had such great treatment and direction from ALL the therapists at QOPT. Don’t get me wrong when I say «all,» I unfortunately was not progressing clinically as we had expected and my therapist wanted input from his colleagues — thus the numerous meets with the other therapists.
Just an FYI, ALL the therapists employed here are advanced clinical doctoral degree holders! They additionally hold several specialty certificates to boast after the lengthy initials after their name. In layman terms, they are a pretty bad A– group of folks here! Not are they only SMART, they are a dynamic, active, young and energetic group of people working there.
When you’ve spent as much time as I have for PT (ex. one hour a day — sometimes longer, three times a week for 6 months) you learn a lot about the people treating you. I like to ask questions about their qualifications, their education, experience… pretty much everything short from asking for their resume! I think it’s fair, after all they know
all the private medical stuff (like your true weight) about you and your social background. It’s good to ask TONS of questions about the medical professional that treat you!
Queen’s outpatient physical therapy department used to be in POB II in the basement but in 2012 they moved into POB III. The facility is super clean, bright, roomy and most of all — CONVENIENT! The old facility required you to park in the structure, take an elevator and go into a separate building to the basement. This facility was easy — one building — one elevator. If you park in the J level of the parking garage the door from the garage leads directly to the floor of the PT department.
I’ve been to other PT centers where all the exam tables are in a «great room» and there is absolutely ZERO patient privacy (I am 100% sure this violates every HIPAA regulation out there). I’m an extremely modest person and I sure as heck do not want all the patients to observe or hear about my medical conditions. Yet alone have them observe me in a vulnerable state. I know… I found myself looking and eavesdropping but then again how could I not? QOPT provides absolute patient privacy with their separate exam/​treatment rooms.
There is a fairly large room that houses all their gym/​workout equipment. This is perhaps the only room that there are other patients present. That’s fine with me but when I’m getting a massage or having body parts exposed — I absolutely want a separate room from the general population.
Alika Kuamoo, Blaise (with a name like that — no need last name since it was impressive enough) and Kari Rivera were awesome in getting me back to work after my shoulder surgery. Their combined hands on knowledge and direction helped me tremendously well after my sessions were over.
And by the way, they worked directly with me and did not delegate their treatments plans to an assistant to carry out. That’s what I love about this practice — they genuinely have an interest in seeing their patients recover to their pre-​injury/​surgery status. Coming here guarantees that you will have one on one contact with your PT.
The road to recovery is hard enough but with the help of the wonderful therapists and front desk staff (who by the way are just the sweetest people ever) that road gets a bit easier.
