We decided to try one of the new establishments at the 808 Center before shopping at Sam’s club since I have heard some review of this place. After walking through and looking at several other restaurants, we decided on Phở Ca Dao. Upon first peruse of the menu, all prices are a few $$ less than the other vietnamese establishments nearby so we were excited. The service gets a 5 star as the female employee(not sure if she was the owner) was super friendly and service oriented. We had the spring rolls which was a little on the smaller sized portion so I can understand the lower price. Other dishes ordered was the seafood phở and the combination plate. The taste of the meat loaf on the combo plate was a little strange and the pork was a smaller cut. Overall comments are that the lower prices are reflected in the quality of the food but the great service makes up for some of that.

I love this place! The women that work here are always so nice and accommodating. The phở is ok, it’s just phở. The broth has a nice flavor. My favorite dishes are the bun rieu and the pork chop and vermicelli. The summer rolls are awesome too. I’ve been wanting to try the banh xeo for a while now. Just haven’t gotten around to it. As far as them being Chinese concerned, that’s such a random/rude comment. They speak fluent Vietnamese and the service is good soo… That’s good enough for me.

Tried their large combination phở. Soup has a lot of flavor. They make their chili oil spicy like Green Papaya which is awesome if you’re into spicy. A nice addition to the neighborhood.

I love eating Phở. Whenever I feel under the weather or the weather outside is cold or rainy, I crave a bowl of Phở. I am discovering all of the new restaurants in the 808 Center and Phở Ca Dao was highly recommended. The restaurant is located next to Fortune Noodle and Urban Bistro. It wasn’t too crowded the night we ate there, but probably because people were still out Christmas shopping. The restaurant is simply furnished, very clean, and brightly lit. The staff is super friendly and helpful in suggesting what to order. The menu is straight forward. Summer or Spring Rolls and Crepes for appetizers, various types of Phở, Rice Dishes, Rice Noodle dishes, and Chef selections. We ordered Spring Rolls, Chicken Phở, and Rare Steak Phở. The Spring Rolls were super duper delicious. Nice and crispy on the outside and loaded with a ton of yummy filling. The Phở was superb! The broth is so savory! The owner explained that instead of chicken stock powder, they use the whole beef bone as soup stock. Even though I was stuffed, I kept slurping up the broth. So delicious! Even though Hale Vietnam is my all time favorite place for Phở, this restaurant is giving my favorite phở spot some competition. Plus, it’s closer to where I live! I will definitely be back to Phở Ca Dao!

I’m so happy that Ca Dao opened because it’s my new favorite phở place in Honolulu! Their phở broth is so flavorful and delicious. It’s heavy on the beef flavor but the spices create a perfect balance without making the broth too heavy. I also love their spring rolls! The meat is very tender and juicy; it’s absolutely perfect. In addition to the delicious food, the service is so lovely. Everyone I’ve met working at the restaurant is so sweet, polite, and funny! Delicious food, nice venue, and friendly staff make this a perfect new addition to the area! I highly recommend!

I came here during on a Sunday for lunch time within their first month after opening. I ordered one of the standard phở bowls. I found the restaurant to be very clean and the server was very professional and friendly. It’s in the 808 Center so the building and spaces are new and clean. I stayed there for a while to watch Sunday football. They never brought the bill to me so I figured that you just have to go to the counter to pay for the meal. The phở bowl was just right. It tasted healthy and it wasn’t too sweet or salty for me. The veggies they gave seemed clean and all the condiments were on the table. I wouldn’t mind coming back to try something else such as bun bo hue.

Have been eyeing this place each time I’ve driven by and we finally got to try it. Well I have to say the décor is nice and the people were quite friendly, I opted for the Combo Phở as that give me the idea how everything will be for most everything else I wasn’t disappointed as the broth here was really good the large Phở was about average size of most places but it was definately the broth that stood out from most places. The prices were about average so not too bad I did get to try the spring rolls which were pretty good but not outstanding from any other place so it’s still a good choice. As far as the parking I will have to tell you from what I see as I walked here there is a valet that will take your car to their unique parking elevator? I guess that’s kinda what to call it as you really don’t see the parking from the front of the building as it is in the back. I will be back to try other dishes!

I waited over 15 mins and no one came to take my order. No water was given. To make matters worse it took 30 mins for the valet guys to get my car!!!

I’m phở-natical about phở because it’s a great comfort food for me. I was very excited to hear that a new Vietnamese restaurant opened at 808 Sheridan next to Urban Bistro, Infinitea, and Fortune Noodle so made my way down to try it out with a friend. The staff gets a bonus ½ star from me for accommodating it’s customers, especially if they have special dietary needs. My friend doesn’t eat pork and the staff took out the pork from our summer rolls easily. They also answered a bunch of her questions about the ingredients in the various dishes and were very helpful to modify or suggest dishes for those who don’t eat certain types of foods. The summer rolls were very fresh and had a good balance of flavor even without the pork. My friend got the Egg Noodle Duck Soup and liked the flavor of the broth, the noodles and the duck meat. I ordered the Phở Ga aka Chicken Phở and found the flavor of the broth and the freshness of all the ingredients to be just right. I also like the fact you can order your phở in either a medium, large, or super sized bowl to suit your hunger level. Validated valet parking is available in the building or you can street park or guerilla-park at Wal-Mart. I’ll be sure to be back to sample some of the other dishes and have more phở. I’m a phở-an of Phở Ca Dao now.

After ordering a simple sandwich for take out and waiting 10 minutes — I was told, oh we gave your order to someone else. So I patiently wait for them to make another sandwich. Then offered to pay only to be told — SORRY — we can’t take your card because there is a $ 10 minimum charge. I understand about processing fees and minimum charges — but really? and after the wait and the error?! Why won’t eating establishments post minimum credit card amount on their front door or window? Wasted almost 30 minutes for nothing.

Phở broth had a nice flavor. They give lots of vegetables. Autumn rolls and spring rolls were tasty. They have a nice variety of foods so we will definitely be back to try their curries and other noodle dishes.

It’s been nearly 2 weeks since Phở Ca Dao opened. I’ve taken notice that 3 reviews have been posted by my fellow Unilocal friends(Diana, Nadine and Daniel) and I didn’t want to be the last one to jump in with my 2-cents. My husband and I strolled in for an early dinner this evening and were cheerfully greeted by one of the two servers. We apparently arrived after several large groups had left as most of the large tables hadn’t been cleared and there were 4 other tables of 3 or 4 people seated. The server apologized by the lack of seating because they were short-staffed and began to clear a table for us. She was quick to clear a table as we stood and waited for just a few minutes in the cool air-conditioned restaurant. Once seated, she gave us menus and offered us a choice of iced water or iced tea. We chose the iced green tea which she delivered as we perused the menu. Admittedly, my favorite Vietnamese noodle dish is bún riêu cua or crab noodle soup so I was tempted to order a bowl of this steaming hot goodness. However, I remembered the reviews from my friends and reconsidered my choice to try something«different» from my usual. THEFOOD: — Egg noodles with Duck Leg(mì vt tim): A serving in a large bowl of steaming hot earthy, herbal(anise, cinnamon, licorice and cloves) and gingery tasting dark broth with flat egg noodles(Chinese e-mein like) came out topped with a braised duck leg. The duck meat was flavorful and tender. Even the duck skin just seemed to melt when bit in to and there was no oiliness. My husband enjoyed the broth for its savoriness and the tenderness of the rich duck meat. A side dish of pickled green papaya was served to compliment this noodle dish. $ 13.95 — Vietnamese-style beef stew(Bò Kho): My tastebuds were sent into a tizzy! I could distinctly taste lemongrass, star anise, curry, cinnamon, ginger and Chinese 5-spices in this deep red(tomato paste?) broth. The broth was slightly sweet from the chunks of carrots. Even the beef stew meat was fork, er, chopstick tender and so flavorful. Our server gave me a choice of noodles or a baguette of French bread. I chose the baguette since she mentioned that their supplier is our local Saint Germain Bakery who is noted for their fine artisan breads and French-style pastries. Oh, Saint Germain will be another review! The broth was so delicious that I used up the whole baguette to sop up every last drop. Although, the stew/broth was well-seasoned, a side of purple basil and a dish of salt & pepper was served. I plucked and sprinkled the basil leaves into the steaming broth and the broth took on another taste dimension. $ 11.95 In summary, service was very good. efficient and friendly even though you could see our server seem to «stress out» a bit because as we were dining, more customers arrived and she had to stop to greet and clear tables while waiting on us and the other 4 tables. The portion sizes were just right to satisfy our hunger without feeling stuffed. The flavors were on-point and we would return for more. We wish this business continued success and welcome it to the Ala Moana neighborhood. #446

I definitely have my favorite Phở places, and was hopeful, and left disappointed. This is a Chinese noodle shop trying to fake Vietnamese cuisine. It’s near my workplace so I was hopeful to have a new go-to place. Nope. Nothing spectacular, just cheap ingredients in a overt broth so you can’t tell right off that the produce is cheap, less-than-fresh/first pick. I felt I was in a street vendor’s noodle stand in Bejing or Hong Kong, then realized I really was… They just scored a shop and the whole staff are Chinese. Now, when in China/HK, I’m cool with a cheap street meal, just like in the PI or anywhere else. But it’s cheap, quality sucks, and you get what you paid for, if not less. If their spring rolls didn’t come from Sam’s Club or Costco, then the must have bought them from their sources. Nothing is really shop-made nor any pride in the quality of ingredients. I had the phở ga and was introduced to tough and tasteless chicken. Another friend had ordered the Spring Rolls(which I tried), and she’s happy I had offered to pay for the whole meal. They won’t last.

My fiancé and I decided to try a new Vietnamese restaurant for their opening day in town with a couple of friends and their son. The first things you notice about this place is the décor. It’s very modern and with LCD TVs on opposite sides of the room. The pictures that are hung on the walls were a nice touch. But of course, we were not there to admire the furniture, paintings and stare at paint. We ordered spring rolls, rare steak phở and the vermicelli combo. The spring rolls were served with rice noodles, lettuce, and mint. The first things we noticed were that the vegetables were super fresh, and the house sauce was superb. My fiancé and I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. We opted for the medium rare steak phở. The broth was good and had a refined taste. However, we were a little surprised by the size of the bowl. Granted, we ordered the smallest size on the menu. Perhaps going to the next size up for a dollar more, we would have had a lot more. The phở was served with your usual bean sprouts, basil leaves, peppers, etc. Again, the vegetables were all fresh, which we both appreciated. The vermicelli combo was also good. It had pieces of marinated pork and egg rolls. Vegetables they used were all fresh. We think the main highlight of our visit to this restaurant was the freshness of the ingredients and the refined broth they used for the phở. Having the fresh vegetables with our meal made everything taste beyond what we expected. If you decide to go with the phở, we suggest starting off with a larger sized bowl for a few dollars more. Street parking might be a little tough. There is a valet in facing the mainstreet. It didn’t look like much, but once you pull up, the person will take your car to the garage that lifts up your car and parks it in a space. Pretty neat. Two dollars for two hours with validation, not including tip.

If you’re looking for great phở at a reasonable price, this is the place to go! I’ve been to a few phở restaurants, and the broth for this place is not heavy or salty. I’ll definitely be returning with my friends.

My lunch buddy told me about this new phở restaurant last night and we decided to check it out for lunch today. It’s not often that someone gets to dine at a restaurant on their first day but we lucked out! They are so new that there were no hours or a phone number(808−888−4156) posted on Unilocal so we figured lunch at 11:30am was a safe bet. Just by chance today was their first day open to the public. This is a brand new restaurant and they have some kinks to work out but that’s normal with any place. We weren’t greeted or acknowledged when we entered and we had to get our own menus. Not the best way to start off but the rest of the lunch made up for it. The server did apologize saying she didn’t see us. She was talking story with other patrons so we understood and gave them a pass since it’s their first day. The menu has all the typical items you would find in a Vietnamese restaurant. Originally I was going to order Bun Bo Hue(Daily Special) and my lunch buddy was going to order Phở so we could share but they didn’t have Bun Bo Hue available. We both ended up getting a large House Special Combo Phở. Our appetizers were an order of Summer Roll and an order of Autumn Roll. We both got Vietnamese Iced Coffee to wash it all down. House Special Combo Phở — generous portions of meat and noodles. It came out hot and the soup had a flavorful yet clean taste to it. Sweeter than what I’m normally accustomed to but it was good. We got lots of fresh veggies and when I asked for more culantro, our server quickly brought more out. The raw beef was fresh and complimented the dish well. Summer Roll — it came in four pieces with a bowl of the peanut dipping sauce. I personally liked this dish, it was balanced well with all the ingredients used to make the roll. All the veggies were fresh and there wasn’t too much noodle inside that takes away from the taste of the shrimp and veggies. Autumn Roll — this dish came out in 8 pieces. I found it to be drier than other Autumn Rolls I’ve had in the past. The dipping sauce did help but I have to say that I wasn’t a big fan of this dish. Vietnamese Iced Coffee — typical iced coffee from a Vietnamese restaurant but I found out from our server that if you want to have the coffee stronger, just tell the server when ordering and they can make it stronger. It wasn’t too sweet with the portions of condensed milk and coffee just right. Décor is nice and simple with two LCDTV’s at opposite corners of each other. The natural light from the giant windows and door helped illuminate the restaurant. There are several tables along the walls and a long table in the middle that can accommodate a larger group. Parking is $ 2 for 2 hours with validation or you can look for street parking. The food is quite good and service was top notch after we ordered. I will be back to try their Bun Bo Hue. We found out from our server, whom owned a jewelry business for 30 years, that there are three owners and the cook/chef is from Vietnam. It’s 20% off the menu through the end of the month so go check them out!

Yesterday, I saw my Unilocalie friend, Diana L., check in and comment, «soft opening». Right away, I alerted my lunch buddy because his favorite food is phở. We agreed to meet at 1130am to beat any crowds. The web site didn’t have a phone number or any hours of operation, so we just made an educated guess. This restaurant is located in a new building on the corner of Sheridan, diagonally situated from Walmart in Honolulu. It’s bright and clean, with simple décor. There are customary bouquets to welcome a new business. .and that’s what they are. Their first day of business was today: 10−22−15. It was an honor to dine on Opening Day. Customers seemed happy and food smelled wonderful. I had to stand up and get some menus as we had seated ourselves and they hadn’t noticed us. They are very friendly and sociable business owners and I appreciate good customer relationships. Everything wasn’t available on the menu, but we managed to order the House Special Combo Phở, Spring Rolls, and Autumn Rolls(I was curious about this last item). I enjoyed the phở broth flavor and noodle texture! I gobbled up the Spring Rolls with the peanut sauce. The Autumn Rolls were a bit challenging as they were drier and grittier even with the sauce. We also had the Vietnamese Iced Coffee which we mixed first and poured over ice for a refreshing lift! Yum! I wish this business well… it is an new venture for 3 partners and a chef from Vietnam. They welcome comments and asked often if everything was to our liking. Check them out now since they have a 20 percent off deal until the end of the month! Tell me what you think!

Phở places popping up left and right got me like whoaaaa. This place is near Walmart in town. There’s validated parking in the back or street parking. What sets this place apart? The broth and the service. Eat all the phở you want, but it really comes down to the broth. And take it from someone who grew up eating phở as a staple food… This broth is GOOD. They offer more than just phở. Appetizers, items ala carte, rice dishes, vermicelli, and even sandwiches and desserts. They also offer a pretty decent selection of drinks: coffee, tea, soda. Not too shabby. They also have a few daily specials you can come check out! On top of their delicious broth: their service is stellar. No kidding. I’ll definitely come back to try out their specials. Enjoy!
