History
Established in 1965.
PBS Hawaii has undergone many name changes and transformations throughout its history. The Hawaii State Legislature established Hawaii Education Television in 1965. It began broadcasting in 1966 as UH Manoa’s closed-circuit network. ETV becomes Hawaii Public Television in 1972 and moves to our current location on Dole Street. In 2000, Hawaii Public Television broke away from the state and became a private, non-profit organization. Three years later, Hawaii Public Television changes its name to PBS Hawaii.
