This place was closed shortly for renovations, but wow! They really cleaned it up, so it’s all neat and tidy. Spicy ahi is as great as usual, and they have all kinds of little snacks, bentos, sushi, and even bubble drinks. It’s like a 7 – 11, but better! :) If you don’t want sushi, there’s also bottled soft drinks, juices, etc. Typical snacks such as Pringles, those little Panda things with chocolate inside. $ 10 credit card minimum. Owners are a lovely Korean couple! The daughter is usually the cashier. Family owned sushi/convenience store :)

I give Oya four stars for what it is: a convenience store. Now, don’t seek this place out or anything, but when it’s convenient for you to come here, you’ll likely agree that this is the best food from any convenience store/mini mart/gas station this side of TV’s DDD. The spicy ahi donburi and spicy ahi salad are both delicious. The ahi isn’t of the highest quality, but the light, tangy dressing for the salad is flavorful, and the veggies in the salad(spring mix, avocado, and bias-cut Japan cucumber) are very fresh. I’ve also had to go to meetings across the street, and a quick musubi and energy drink were a decent breakfast more typical of the category.

This is place is alright. i did hear through the grapevine that they were closing in April or something… but that’s just what i heard… It’s a little mini mart with, of course, a sushi stand and bubble drinks. i was really craving some saimin and there isn’t much places around here that sell just plain ol’ saimin. and they have a miso ramen which isn’t bad. it comes with some bean sprouts and the broth is alright. not the best, but it satisfied my craving for saimin. i also ordered a california maki, and it was good sized… definitely bigger than 7 – 11 maki’s. if im craving saimin while at work, then i wouldn’t hesitate about coming back here for my fix.

Oya, Oya, I’m coming to see you! A family owned MINI Mart that surprisingly makes good Sushi has a litttle bit of everything for a quick lunch to go. They make a yummy Musubi daily(which is always gone by noon) and I tried my 1st Spicy Ahi Donburi Bowl(which comes with Miso Soup) here 2 years ago, and am an addict ever since! Another favorite of mine is the Shrimp Tempura Roll and the Unagi, which I call in my order in twice a week, and they have it freshly made in 15 minutes. Not in the mood for Sushi? They make these really good, and HUGE Tuna and Ham and Cheese sandwiches, a variety of chips, candy, sodas, energy drinks, and Melona in 4 different flavors! They do have other«odds and ends» but don’t let that fool ya! Oya Sushi Mart is located on Cooke & Kapiolani Bd across from Kaiser Permanente in the Imperial Plaza Mall. Free parking for 3 hours, and nice outdoor patio seating outside, as well as a table in the store. The owners are nice and friendly, they know the regulars, and their cute 10 yr old daughter helps out after school. If you’re in the Ka’aako area, pick something up on the way to the beach or enjoy your hour lunch sunning yourself outside eating Sushi!

It wasn’t that I really needed to buy lunch, but when my co-worker mentioned going to the Sushi Mart-I found myself curious. Tucked in the same center as Ah Lang & Phở Nam, Oya Sushi Mini Mart has a steady stream of patrons during the lunch hours. It is a modest shop, with a decent menu. I was torn between the chirashi bowl and the udon. But my co-worker mentioned that the curry and the spiy ahi donburi were good. I ended up ordering the spicy ahi donburi($ 7.84) which came with a side order of miso. While the miso was really good, the bowl itself was a bit lacking in rice. The ahi had a good kick to it, but I would’ve appreciated some wasabi with the meal. The customer service is okay. They had run out of salad so I could not order a small side salad. Overall, I was lukewarm when it came to being satisfied from lunch. Note: it is best to bring cash. They’ll take credit cards but there is a minimum.

I am so glad that I found this little gem of a korean bodega/sushi joint. I am a midwestern boy who was shipped off to Hawaii. I had tried sushi a couple of times before getting to the island, but now I consume it with alarming regularity. I have tried many places here on Oahu. There are many«fast sushi» places about that are on the cheaper side and don’t require the time investment that is needed to enjoy a legitimate sushi meal. This is my favorite«fast sushi» place. The little old lady behind the counter is a sweetheart. I can’t understand what she says when I call to order on the phone, but I just say«Dynamite» and I am treated to one of the best Maki Rolls around. I have tried a number of things on the menu here, but I almost exclusively order the Dynamite Maki. The rice is sticky, the cucumber is crunchy, the tempura crab(which I accidentally found out was straight out of the microwave, but I don’t care) and the spicy ahi that adorns the top of each little roll blend together to make one of my favorite fast meals. You will probably second guess your decision to dine here when you walk in the door. I will admit that I was feeling adventurous when I first decided to eat raw fish from a little bodega that has everything from energy drinks to phone cards to windshield wiper fluid on the same shelves. But hey, I am not above buying a hardboiled egg out of a kitchen bowl at a gas station on the side of the interstate. I have eaten here countless times by now, and I have never had an issue with the quality or freshness of the food.

O ya ya ya ya mini mart with take out sushi and bento counter off Kapiolani. They gots a little bit o everything here: Spicy ahi or unagi bowls — comes with miso soup that’s tasty and piping hot! Handrolls are all under $ 3 — Red dragon came with plenty of imitation crab and avocado, so this was a deal. They use previously frozen ahi. Ahi or unagi salads. Sandwiches made to order: usual suspects like ham or tuna. Bento combinations of steak or chicken with spicy ahi on the side(about $ 7+). Homemade mandoo. This is a good spot to stop if you need a sushi snack in a pinch. I like the quality and taste of their rice. There’s typically open street parking on Cooke and you can just run in. They do not call you when your order is done, they just leave it on the counter. NOTE: They are not fast(they’re Korean), it is always a wait no matter who is behind the counter. Check your order cause mamasan tends to forget what she’s making back there. What on earth do people buy here other than lunch? Weird stuffs like canned peas, Christmas bows, and rubber gloves all on the same shelf make me smile :)

We’ve coming here weekly for months and it never disappoints. This is basically a mini mart(thinks 7-Eleven) that decides to serve hot food. It has a mix of sushi and Korean offerings such as mandoos. There are also a few odd items that I have never tried. Here’s a run down. The large bentos includes a choice of meat(beef, chicken, or shrimp tempura) on a bed of fresh greens, a small serving of spicy ahi dices with a bit of tobiko on top, rice with furikake, and some garnish. They are all freshly made on the spot so no sweating under the lid. The meat are well seasoned. The shrimp tempura are served coated with sauce. The batter is a not as crunchy as I like but it is passable for bento. The spicy ahi gives the meal variety. The sushi rolls are all very good. The highlights are the dynamite maki and dragon maki. Both have spicy ahi dices topping the maki rolls. Again, all made on the spot and very flavorful. The mandoo is quite good. These are the biggest and fully mandoo I have eer seen. I usually order the fried ones(5 pieces) but it can be a bit oily(you can tell as the paper towel underneath are soaked in oil). It does go very well with the bentos or sushi. We usually get an order and share between 2 – 3 people. The cone sushi is fair. I would skip the unagi which isn’t on par. This is not the cheapest place to eat in the area by far but the freshness alone is worth the money, not to mention decent food and convenience. I will continue to visit this place for the foreseeable future.

Bump up the rating to 3.5 stars. Decided to try the spicy ahi nigiri and mandoo on this trip. The guy working the register raved that they have the best mandoo on the island. Got the order in less than 10 minutes. My initial impression of the mandoo was that it was ok, but not the best that I’ve had. I thought the best I had was at my friend’s bar Alapai Café. The pieces were big. I could taste chicken and long rice inside. I like my mandoo to be boiled a bit, then fried slightly on each side rather than deep fried. I thought that it could use a bit more flavor, like more garlic in it. Well, I didn’t taste that much garlic at first but I could taste it later in the day when I burped. On second though, maybe they did get the mandoo from the same place my friend’s bar get’s it although it is cooked differently. The spicy ahi nigiri was really good. They were very generous with the spicy ahi. Fish tasted fresher than the last time I was here. Rice wasn’t hard either. Probably there was a different cook this day. It also came with a small container of wasabi and chopped ginger. Wasabi was weak though.
