New York Life Insurance Company

We reached out to our life insurance agent inquiring about how much would it be to up the value on my husbands current life insurance? He told us we had to do all the paperwork first, in order for him to tell us the amount. After finding out how much it would be monthly, the life insurance agent HIMSELF told us not to change it yet & that we could change it at a later time.
Ended up getting a policy for myself & a policy for my daughter. My husband already had a policy through his mom, so we didnt want to up the value on it YET.
It’s now August, I’ve been calling NY Life’s office in Honolulu inquiring about all these statements that are being sent to our house & why we’ve never seen a bill to pay & instead the amount is being automatically deducted from our bank account. Our agent has never [prior] told us the monthly payments will automatically deduct.
We noticed that my husband was receiving mail addressed directly to him & from my mother-​in-​law that we pay for [for his original policy]. I noticed there are 2 different policy numbers — called the Honolulu office again to find out that my husband has 2 life insurances! The newer policy is the policy that THE INSURANCE AGENT TOLD US not to get & we told him WE DIDNT WANT IT. So from March/​April this year, we’ve been paying for an insurance we DIDNT KNOW WE HAD & now FLOYD CHAPMAN [Compliance] is saying we cant get our money back; when in fact the insurance agent HIMSELF SAID «YES, I TOLD HER THAT» but yet he created it anyways!
Rather than Floyd Chapman trying to resolve the issue, he kept trying to sell/​convince me to keep my husbands 2^nd life insurance & on top of that QUESTIONED MY KNOWLEDGE OF LIFE INSURANCE!!! Total loss with this company. They dont hear you, they don’t help. Our agent then came to our house, said it was my HUSBANDS FAULT for all of this, that he’s not to blame, said he cant cancel his policy & that we have to speak to the manager, & told me it was MY FAULT that the other staff in HIS office didnt tell him I was having issues with this for a couple months & didnt tell him that THEY CALLED ME & ASKED ME to go into their office yesterday.
Unprofessional, confused to say the least of our agent & Floyd Chapman. I feel the only person that heard me & understood me was Kelly Smith.

I have to agree with the above comment from Jason R. about New York Life being the company I’m reviewing, but if it wasn’t for my agent Grant Murakami, I would not be writing this review.
Life insurance can be a difficult and uncomfortable topic to discuss, and it is hard to trust people in the insurance industry. However, with Grant I immediately felt like he wasn’t trying to sell me anything, but he was trying to inform and educate me on the importance of life insurance in every person’s life. I was very impressed with his presentation, but mostly with his genuineness.
It does help that New York Life is one of the top, if not the top, company for life insurance, but mostly, it was Grant who sold me on purchasing life insurance from him and New York Life.

New York Life maybe the company I’m reviewing, but if it wasn’t for Carlos Lara, you wouldn’t be even reading this review. Mr. Lara makes the whole experience easy and comfortable. His honesty and professionalism are breathes of fresh air that are seriously lacking in service industries nowadays. I still did my research on New York Life and after extensive reading and askin’ around… I’m convinced I’m with the best company and agent!!!
