Have been here quite a few times and really enjoyed each time during my visit. Do not really remember if there is any difference on the menu from the beginning since I had very minimal recognition of western dishes. Despite my ignorance and inexperience, I do however have a few favorites; like Shepherd pie, fish & chips, and pastas. I am interested in trying corned beef and cabbage probably next time around. The restaurant was located in downtown just a couple blocks near Aloha tower at the pier number of my lucky digit. It would be gorgeous to be around during sunset to experience and appreciate the beautiful afternoon sunlight and shore view of the gleaming ocean. The restaurant was of course decorated with lots of classic western furnishing and arrangements. I was especially impressed by the fresh rose flowers that they set up at each table it was amazing and incredible. I look forward till next visit.

I desperately wanted to like this place. The service was quick, polite and helpful. The restaurant was beautiful, although in no way would make me think of a pub. The food was ok. My boyfriend and I ordered their loaded potato skins, shepherds pie, and corned beef and cabbage. The potato skins were slightly burnt and not so loaded. The potatoes on the pie were grainy and the corned beef was flavorless.

I’ve always heard of Murphy’s bar and grill on the radio, especially around St Patrick’s day… I actually had no idea where it was located, even though I go to Chinatown pretty often. Murphys has a reputation of being«dirty», and in comparison to O’Toole’s across the street, with their fancy wood furnishings and lights, it does come off as being a little more run down. I can see how the restaurant dining area can feel dated, but the bar side is nice. The bar side of the restaurant has several high top tables and a bar counter as well as a shuffle board table. On a week night, the dining area was surprisingly crowded and several groups of people, pau hana workers and couples, came through the bar. I was pleasantly surprised at the extensive, yet very Irish menu. As I had already eaten dinner, I only had room for dessert. I was disappointed that pie day is not every day, only Friday’s :(and settled for an apple crisp crumble dessert with vanilla ice cream instead. It wasn’t the absolute best apple crisp I’ve ever had, but it was decent, made with real apples. I definitely need to come back for berry pie, shepherds pie and corned beef and cabbage!

Overpriced food, quality went downhill big time. Not going back except to drink. The service is good though. There are other places nearby with better food at decent prices

After we attended a holiday party here, I can’t help but reduce their rating. I was part of the planning committee, and we booked here because they said we could have a separate area in the back for our 20+ party. When we arrived the day of the party, the back area still had four different groups eating there, one of which had just gotten their food! We had arrived half an hour before our time to set up decorations so would have expected to wait a bit which would have been fine. They knew we would show up 15 minutes before our time to set up, but made no apology or explanation at all when our reserved party time came and went. We had to wait until 15 minutes after our scheduled party start to set up… The lady who we booked with was cold and snippy with us, and didn’t remember what we agreed on. Then, when it was 20 minutes after our scheduled start time, we were frantically still setting up decorations(with all other attendees loitering around), the hostess came over saying they were already firing up our food. The lack of communication between the staff was obvious, and made our party start off feeling rushed and the antithesis of holiday cheer-y. I know some people’s food was cold when they brought it out later on.

This place is great for either dinner or just to hang out. For dinner I recommend the irish dip(ask them for the horseradish on the side it could be a little overbearing) or the shepards pie if you are very hungry as it is quite filling. If youre coming here for a beer find me in the back corner trying to win a game of shuffleboard blaming all my loses on whoever my partner may be. Inexpensive beers/drinks and normally a pretty friendly crowd.

Location– The location is okay, its located in downtown. the only downside is if you cannot find street parking you will pay a pretty penny for the lot that is located across from the restaurant. Decoration– I loved the vibe i got here, there is some really cute decoration and its a nice clean little restaurant/bar. overall it was really clean and organized. the bathroom freaked me out a little because in the stall i was in there was a dresser with urn sized drawers that had name plates on them, so i got a little freaked out, but it was probably just my imagination. haha Food– The food was amazing, i had the slider burgers with french fries. the burgers were good, they were cooked to my liking and they were very tasty. but the french fries is what put the icing on the cake! they were so perfectly cooked that i was instantly hooked and ate all my fries and my bfs fries. LOL, but he also had a burger which he enjoyed. we also had the pot de’ crème and it was okay, it is literally a bowl of fudge and some whipped cream Service– We went on a slow night, so it wasent to bad of a wait, but out waitress didnt really pay to much attention to us, and it could have been beacuse all the employees were eating and doing other things on a table near us. so she kind of stood there the whole time, and we didnt get refills, but it was quick with the food. we also had to wait a while and ask for our check before we could leave. Overall– overall it was a good experience, and we will return, maybe not so late this time that way we can get a feel of the real restaurant services, other than the waiting time for the check the service and food was amazing.

OK — great Pub with Very Good Food — why five stars — SERVICE is off the charts. I lunch at least two times a month — Patrick always has a smile, joke or both — SERVICE Today at 5:30 wanted a couple drinks and food — late office night. The place is jumping — not just the bar, the whole restaurant. The bar keep, «bearded» guy — sorry missed your name — poured me a G&T(or 2) SERVICED a ton of other patrons and the kitchen — WOW — food in 15 — Amazing. After many years enjoying the magic of this place, I contemplated on why do I keep coming back? ***SERVICE*** — the people make the place, the food and the drink — that much better. Oh — and the best pie on Island — on Friday’s only — much to my chagrin.

1st time, Gr8 Food & Gr8 times with Family & Friends! From the Irish Coffee to the Pumkin Pie Cheesecake & all 4 entrées in between we were Impressed & Will be back. Mr & Mrs Murphy were in the house. I asked our waiter Pepe if they were here for dinner, and he said no, he does some of the cooking. The pot roast, ribs & the Mrs. Famous pie’s. Usually, just Friday’s, but bc of the holidays, I guess we were fortunate, on a Sunday. Very good food & drinks! We will be back to experience those dishes of Ireland you can’t find like it’s served @ Murphy’s. Enjoy all our Photos… we surely enjoyed our experience here. #customerserviceonpoint #amazingfood #irishcoffeeoffthechain #ribsdelish #fish&chipsmmmm #chickenlikebutterbaby

Came here for a quick lunch. We’re a regular customer! Love the staff! Long timers. Today tried their special fish taco — meaty size fish, pretty tasty. The wings today were a wee bit salty for me. Hubby had the steak with salad and veggies! Murphy’s is a great solid restaurant and pub! We’ve had a party there and again above and beyond service!!!

Honestly the best Irish Pub food I’ve ever had. The ambiance of this place is enough for me to come here regularly. Too many pubs are filthy, trashy and are basically meant for downing Irish Car Bombs and crappy Shepard’s Pie’s. This place does the food well, has a great selection of craft beers on tap that rotate frequently and has awesome and knowledgeable service(especially John at the bar).

I can’t believe I’ve never done a review for Murphy’s! This has been a long standing favorite of mine, from my first job downtown eons ago, nearly every weekend of graduate school at HPU and still till this day when you get a craving for some good food and the secret Po de Crème — oh! Yup, some great nights here at Murphy’s for sure! From the moment you get there, the staff are always welcoming and friendly; I love the vibe of the restaurant and the way its decorated. If you’re planning to stop in to the restaurant side during lunch or dinner, call ahead and reserve a table even though there is often seats available. But if there is a UH game on(or any game really) then definitely call ahead. The bar side is also fun and the bartenders are sure to keep the evening entertaining. Quiz them on some sports stats, and you’ll be in for it.

Gaelic steak was great. Big mound of mashed potatoes with scoop of gravy and excellently prepared veggies. Steak comes with a delicious peppercorn sauce. Both our steaks were cooked perfectly to each of our preferences. Perfect last meal in Hawaii!

Best Irish food around. Love the ambiance of this place. Exposed brick on the walls reminds one of the east coast. I’ve tried many of Murphy’s offerings and I’ve yet to be disappointed. For first timers, try the Shepherd’s Pie. Simply amazing. One bite and you’ll understand.

I had been wanting to visit Murphy’s for the longest time, but I finally had the opportunity when I was scouring the island for the best fish and chips at local restaurants. I went to Murphy’s for lunch around noon on a Monday. I managed to find a nearby parking(I detest parking in Chinatown) and since I was dining alone, I knew that my lunch wouldn’t – or that it shouldn’t – take more than an hour. Much to my relief and delight, the eatery was pretty empty, save for a few other customers. I was seated promptly and my server came to take my order right away. The«Fish ‘n Chips» from Murphy’s was everything I imagined it would be, and I would highly recommend it. Here’s a rundown of my visit: «Fish ‘n Chips»: This entrée featured cod fish and fries served with malt vinegar. I learned that this fish and chips was different from those featured at other places because the tartar sauce is homemade. My server told me that the tartar sauce is made from scratch, and customers really like it. The tartar sauce was definitely different, as it featured bigger chunks of pickles than I’m used to. I tend to like my tartar sauce to be creamier so it’s easier to spread on my fish fillets or easier to dip, so this probably wasn’t my favorite dipping sauce. But, the cod fillets did taste fresh. The fish fillets weren’t that big, but there were four petite pieces, which provided a balanced ratio between fish and fries. I was initially doubtful because I saw that skinny fries were featured … and I like my fries on the thicker side. But, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that these fries weren’t super crispy and they were well seasoned! I don’t usually add ketchup to my fries, so I can tell if fries had enough taste on their own when I don’t have to add salt. I did add some of the malt vinegar to my fish, but the battered exterior was perfectly golden and crisp, and the inside was flaky and tender. «Crab and Shrimp Sandwich»: If I didn’t order the fish and chips, I would probably choose this sandwich. This dish features fresh crab and shrimp with celery, green onions and cheddar cheese in between slices of sourdough bread. I love both crab and shrimp, but I don’t often see them included in the same sandwich. I would probably just get this sando sans the green onions, but everything else sounds really good. Plus, I like sourdough bread. «Blarney Burger»: I’m not sure what exactly constitutes a «Blarney Burger,» but this version includes imported white cheddar with Guinness cheese. I don’t often see white cheddar featured in sandwiches/burgers, and I’ve never had Guinness cheese, so I’m excited to try this burger one day. «Irish Burger»: This succulent burger is topped with imported Irish cashel blue cheese. I’m a HUGE fan of blue cheese, so I look forward to trying this savory concoction. «Shepherd’s Pie»: This traditional Irish dish is famous because it was featured on Guy Fieri’s «Diners, Drive-Inns and Dives.» It entails a traditional pie with lamb and vegetables and it comes topped with mashed potatoes and is served with a house salad. I know I like chicken pot pies, but I don’t think I’ve actually ordered a shepherd’s pie from any restaurant before. I don’t often eat lamb, but I’m willing to try it for the sake of this dish. Plus, it comes with mashed potatoes, so I know at the very least that I would like that portion of the meal. «Blackened Chicken Strips»: This dinner appetizer is served with ranch dressing and fries. If I’m dining at Murphy’s with a group of people, I would love to get this as a shareable plate. I do love chicken strips, but I’m sure they taste even better with that ranch dressing and accompanying fries. «Irish Nachos»: This dinner appetizer features potato skins topped with corned beef, cabbage and horseradish cheddar cheese and sour cream. I like corned beef but only really eat it when I’m craving it, but this appetizer definitely sounds like a dish that’s unique to Murphy’s. Plus, I’m sure that horseradish cheddar cheese has a strong taste to it and I can’t wait to try it one day. «Potato Skins»: I’m a sucker for potato skins, so I would be down to try this version from Murphy’s. This dinner app features potato skins topped with bacon, cheese, green onions and sour cream. I would probably just order my version without the green onions!

Good Guinness although it was poured way too fast. The food is decent. I had a Guinness burger that was rather plain. My burgers at home are better. My wife had fish and chips. I swear, the fish looked like it came out of a Groton’s box from the freezer. I like the ambiance of the place. But don’t eat here.

Being part Irish I’m a bag fan of any Irish style pubs plus anywhere I can get corned beef or Shepard’s pie daily is a winner for me. I usually only come here for St. Patrick’s Day or to fulfill a random corned beef craving but on occasion we come just for the bar while the main restaurant area is closed. Sunday’s they typically don’t open until dinner time but they recently opened at noon for the U.S. World Cup soccer game. They do this for special events and typically offer a limited food menu or sorts along with a full bar. We were there right when they opened the doors & snagged bar seats by a couple of tvs. While the bar area is small and snug, it’s cozy and reminds me of how a true Irish pub would be. The bar is dark wood & our bartender almost seemed to come from another era with the most dashing mustache. There are a few small tables with stools and a long wood table with one way seats facing the bar/tvs. There is a shuffleboard table which only adds to the atmosphere. I like when it gets slightly crowded because the energy seems to rub off on everyone. This events limited menu included fish & chips, fries, poppers & wings. Simple, to the point, bar food. I enjoyed the poppers because they still had a slight bite to the jalapeño although they needed to be fried a few minutes longer. The fish & chips was typical; fries were nothing special but the fish was fried up nice and flaky and matched perfectly with some vinegar. We ordered an array of beers throughout the day. They offer your typical domestic/imports along with Guinness of course, plus a nice array of craft beers on tap. If I wasn’t trying to keep the hangover minimal, I would have hit up the excellent whiskey selection I saw against the wall! We had a fun filled Sunday funday here thanks to Murphys and it made me wonder why I don’t come more. Good beer, good food, good mix of people. Plus they’re food network famous! That says it all. Come on down here for a killer pub experience.

Murphy’s Bar & Grill My brother wanted to go to a local bar but he wanted to go to a better bar than a dive bar. His parameters– decent food, good beer on tap, no dirtbags going to bother us, and hopefully an Irish bar. Last one kinda narrowed it down greatly. Murphy’s has always been on my radar as I worked on King St above from the bar. We had a Christmas party as a group of teachers once or twice there with a closed off section with really great service, then we had pupus during the meeting part and then food and drinks after while we could talk story. I have been to the street parties on St Patrick’s Day since I was there any way for work to get some corned beef which is super tender and sweet. All my co-workers love the fish and chips and all the other food favs during the St Patrick’s Day fest. So Murphy’s it is. He wanted a nice black and tan. He wanted to try a few on tap so we were able to share a few good drinks over some great conversation about how life is. I got the Irish Burger– Murphy’s best burger topped with imported Irish Cashel Blue cheese, it is a better bar burger than I normally am able to get at my local dive bar. He just wanted baskets of soy beans and fries which made him just happy. Totally happy with both the drinks and the food. The bar itself is well maintained– the inside looks like any Irish pub which could be in any city in America that would be welcoming to anyone in a great atmosphere. Nice wood chairs and wood paneling that makes it feel warm and inviting to eat and drink. Easy going family feeling. He’d like to go back so it was a great choice and hopefully next time more of the family can come too to talk story over some good family comfort food.
