History

Established in 2004.

Everyone knows that printer manufacturers do not make money by selling their equipment but by selling their ink or toner cartridges. That is why many times they will give you their printer when you purchase a new computer or digital camera. Furthermore you seldom see any great deals on ink or toner cartridges from the big box office supply stores or even the Warehouse Clubs. The reason is because the printer companies keep a great deal of the profit margins and leave the retailer with a very small profit margin.

Mr. Ink Plus, Inc. was launched by Terrence Iwamoto with the mission of reducing costs for corporations, small businesses, and Hawaii consumers. Mr. Ink Plus has been open since March 2004 and is located at the Coral Commercial Center 670 Auahi St., Suite A12 (diagonally behind the former CompUSA building) on the corner of Keawe St. and Auahi St. in the Kakaako area.

Terrence is the owner of Mr. Ink Plus with a mission to save the people of Hawaii on the ever expensive inkjet and toner cartridges.

We source only the best A Grade suppliers of compatible cartridges at very low prices compared to the original cartridges so the user experience is much better than buying off the internet where many suppliers use Cheaper Grade Compatibles and know that most consumers will not bother shipping the cartridges back for a refund.

We are LOCAL so we back all of our cartridges locally!

Mr. Ink himself seems like a nice guy. I just tell him what type of printer I have and he brings me the right ink cartridge. The best part is they use generic cartridges which are usually cheaper. Every generic cartridge I bought thus far has worked fine.

Mr. Ink deserves every bit of my 5 star review! I came in anxious as ever, just bought a new printer and had a large amount of things to print! Of course I quickly ran out of ink and I had a deadline to meet too! Call and he was really helpful. So on the way there I checked his reviews on Unilocal to give me an idea of what to expect. Was a little apprehensive after reading someone saying his reviews were «made up»! Luckily I trusted my own instincts and continued on my path. Once I found it, upon entering he greeted me promptly. Of course I was also talking in my cell (my friends and ohana call me the queen of multitasking) he waited until I got off the phone then got the inks I needed. He warned me of changing all then inks at the same time shocking the system.
I listened to every bit of advance and only changed the cartridges when needed. I’m sure glad he went the extra mile and didn’t just sale me something and send me on my way! Many Mahalos! I will be back for my printer needs!

I just stopped by today by Unilocal recommendations, and I’m glad I did. I called in advance to make sure they had the toner in stock and I was pleased with his serve: D Even more so in person! Terrence (the store owner) clearly explained about the toner, was very helpful in finding us the toners that we needed, even gave us a discount! The toner is pricey (but when isn’t it?) but certainly cheaper than fishers/​office max! He is genuinely interested in helping YOU, not to make a profit. And he knows his information very well. I would gladly shop there again for my ink, knowing it’ll be just as good quality as the brand name — and I would be supporting the local business as well.

I’ve been to this store several times and the owner has been very kind during each visit. He seems to truly be interested in helping out his customers as much as possible.
I have a Canon MG7100 inkjet printer and I print a lot of photos, cards, papers, etc. I also have a Brother laser printer. He has given me advice such as «they say you should change it after so many uses, but it’s still good at that time. Just change it later, save money». Obviously, he cares more about his customers than telling them they need to come back and buy things more often.
I’ve purchased laser toners, drums, and ink from him. So far, all of his products are of excellent quality. He doesn’t sell original brand name products (like Canon, or Brother) but his products are of equal quality. I have not seen any difference between my prints. His ink is MUCH cheaper than the brand name stuff, has MUCH more ink in each cartridge, and print just as good!
My only problem is he didn’t carry one of my ink cartridges. My Canon has 6 cartridges (cyan, magenta, yellow, black, photo black, and gray). He carried all but the gray. Oh well. I’m still giving him 5 stars for his friendly service.
Oh, and he accepts the Isle Discount card! I think it’s 10% off? Even better!
Parking lot is huge and is NEVER full.

Another visit for «Small Business Saturday»
Seems like a tidy one man operation selling printer inks, toner, and all things connected to putting print and color on paper. All these important material stacked neat and orderly on shelves in a quaint little shop on the fringe of Kakaako.
Terrence, the owner was very, very helpful on answering our questions and also in giving us tips on how to prolong the life of the printer, and the ink jets.
And on the plus side (I’m guessing here’s where the «PLUS»; in Mr Ink Plus comes from) he also sells pipe tobacco, rolling cigarettes, and E-​cigs. Who’da thunkit? So I’m thinking if it works… why not… it’s a business niche.

MR. INK PLUS
I’ve been buying my ink jet cartridge replacements from this little shop in Kakaako for years. They sell the «generic» equivalent ink and toner cartridges for Brother, Epson, HP, Dell, Canon, Lexmark, etc. and I’ve never had any problems with them in the past. The prices are usually very good and they usually stock the items I use so I don’t have any problem getting my cartridges the same day I walk in.
Today I had to replace a laser toner cartridge which was $ 117 online through Dell. I called Mr. Ink Plus who had the equivalent one for $ 105, in stock. I went in and… holy smokes (wait, we’ll get to that part later…). I went in and used my iDcard discount to bring that baby down to $ 95 plus tax. It should work for 6000 pages, which should last me at least a few years. They offer a 100% guarantee, and I’ve never had to take my printer cartridges back in.
Mr. SMOKES
To my surprise, they now have a whole section of pipe tobacco and roll-​it-​yourself type supplies. Apparently if you roll your own stuff, it drops the price down from $ 8−9/pack to $ 2−3/pack. Sounds like a great deal to me if you have the patience to DIY. However, they also have the electronic nicotine cartridges to help wean yourself off this expensive habit. Don’t worry about the smell if you are not into tobacco products, I didn’t smell a thing.
I bet you always wanted to know what the «PLUS» meant in «Mr. Ink Plus». Well, now you know. It’s Mr. Ink Plus Mr. Smokes, a strangely unique combination.

He was even helpful and honest in answering questions of mine regarding competing sellers and what to look for to make sure I didnt get a bum deal! I found this place through «Mr. Smokes». I dont even have a printer that would need ink! As for Mr. Smokes, his prices are decent, and you even get a free box of tubes if you buy the 1lb. bag of tobacco. It’s a fairly convenient location and there’s lots of parking.

I’d not heard of Mr. Ink Plus until I bought a Groupon voucher. It’s great to have a local business to buy from instead of buying online from the mainland. I assume it was Terrence who waited on me. He was extremely nice and accommodating. And, I really appreciate the amount of parking. I don’t use a lot of ink but I have become a loyal customer. It’s important to support small businesses.
To Britt N.: I’ve not seen Terrence on OC16 so I don’t know if he’s advertising his business or has his own show. However, it makes no difference. It’s completely ethical for any employee or business owner to appear on TV. I’m curious as to what makes you think otherwise? It’s also ethical for business owners, especially new, small business owners, to request that customers leave reviews on sites like Unilocal.However, it wouldn’t be ethical if an owner wrote the review and the customer posted it. But, I don’t get the feeling that is the case with this business. If you’re going to make an allegation of «fake reviews», please provide facts to back it up. Once you do that, I’m happy to take you seriously.

I have a small business and I usually buy my printer ink products from this small shop in Kakaako. It is quite near my establishment and the prices are pretty good. The thing that is special about this business is that printer ink cartridges are about all they do. I would expect them to know more about these types of products than other large box stores.
There is sufficient parking in front of the shop, but the location can be a little hard to find. All in all, I will continue to shop here.

I wandered in here even though I don’t really pay that much for my printer ink. They seem to have good prices on the whole. What I do not like is the made up reviews. And imagine my surprise seeing the same guy who sold me the ink on OC16. I seriously doubt they would like to promote someone who lies.
Making up fake reviews to promote business is annoying and fools no one. I think it is insulting actually and speaks to your business ethic. I hope you do better in the future and OC16 knows who they are dealing with. Social engineering only works when done well. And you are not doing it well.
