Minh Alterations

Was out visiting on Oahu and did some shopping. Trousers needed alterations and this place was recommended. Great job, fast and reasonable price.

If you didn’t know of this place, you’d never find it. I for one, found this place by sheer luck. Here is my story
Buying some plate lunches at a local eatery on Middle Street, I had to park my car on a side street, in this case, Rose Street. Walking back to my car with lunches in had, I see a sign «Min Alterations» and they were open. I remembered having a couple garments in my car that was in tow for some time, waiting to get altered… I just never got to it.
Placing my food in my car, I grab my garments to check out Minh’s. What a pleasant experience. The have a changing room so the garments on line to be altered can be worn and measured for alteration accurately. I failed to get the name of the owner/​seamstress (shame on me) as she was very nice, professional and right on the money when it came to alterations.
I had sleeves on my jacket shortened. I had four slacks on order to be shortened and hemmed. (I had to try each pair; the inseam measurement was not enough as Seamstress pointed out that each pair of slacks had different waist lines)
Price? EXTREMELY REASONABLE.
I have short arms and short legs– Minh’s is on my «to-​go» place for any new garment that needs any type of alteration
Note– From what I could see, Minh’s is famous for uniform alterations (mililtary, law enforcement and the like).

Saw Trinh today. She did an emergency fix for me (my dog chewed thru something of mine). She didn’t know it was an emergency but did it super quick as if it was. Although it was quick, she was detailed and checked with me to confirm how i wanted it done and provided amazing work!!! Seriously she was so sweet and had amazing calm and positive energy. Definitely coming back. Recommend! Go! Area of store is little sketchy but shop is legit and professional. My black bikini bottom has been rescued! love you Trinh!

A mom & pop kind of store, run by Minh and Trinh. Minh used to be a tailor in Vietnam so he’s super good at recognizing how to make things fit right. I buy on-​sale dresses and have them hemmed, take-​in, etc and am always happy with the results. When I was there the last time he was measuring out custom pants patterns for someone; super cool!

I had such a fantastic experience at Minh’s Alterations. Prices were very reasonable and quality of work is absolutely fantastic every time.
I had to alter several sets of uniform and after a few mishaps/​overpriced «meh» alterations done in other places, I searched high and low for a new alteration shop. This place is definitely one of those «word of mouth» mom & pop shop and many many servicemen, HPD, Sheriff Dept come here for their uniform alterations. In fact, they were contractors for the Air Force at one point for several years (I found out on my 2^nd visit).
They’re very honest and professional. Not many alterations will tell you straight forward that altering an item will cost a lot and not fit properly even after alteration. They did just that. I was little surprised but very grateful that they told me this. Except for that one particular item (that they recommended I exchange for a different size instead altering) all other items have been worked on and Im very happy with it. They also have their own parking lot in the back which is a huge perk. I highly recommend them!

So… I’m not sure of this review is for ALL of Minh’s because the guy (who I think is the owner) seems to know what he is doing, even though his English isn’t so great. The lady (his worker or wife) is ok… there may be a lot of miscommunication but if she tells you it looks good… She’s not telling you, she’s actually «asking» you. You as a customer have to tell them what is good and what is not.
The haole guy, I think he’s the sales guy. Well… I don’t know if there was a miscommunication between the Asian guy and him but when we went to pick up our uniforms, about 98% of us had to come back 2 – 3 sometimes even 4 times just to get the uniform fitting right.
The final product is good but I gave them 3 stars for the fact we had to come back 2 – 3 times for the uniform. Our old contractor, the uniforms were tailored to our bodies… Now that we are with these guys… It’s «off the rack» and then altered to our body, which causes for a lot of miscommunication, and multiple trips to this place.
All in all, I wouldn’t totally dis this place for the fact that the Asian guy is good at what he does, if you get him to measure you first. I would give them 4 stars because they are really nice people… It was just an inconvenience having to constantly come back for my first set of uniforms.

Sure it’s not an ideal looking place, but let me tell you this place is a diamond in the rough! I take all of my military uniforms here and even alter my civilian clothes and it has come back perfect every single time. I even had them sew me a custom arm rest cover for my truck. There hasn’t been a request I asked for in which they couldn’t fulfill.
They don’t gouge you on the prices either, I almost feel as if I am taking advantage of them when I go to pay.
Some people stated they were hard to understand, but they do speak perfect English, (just with an accent) and can speak the «alterations lingo». It’s a «mom and pop» operation, they work hard to please the customer and I’m all about supporting our small local businesses.

I was referred to Minh’s by a co-​worker. Have been here a couple times in the past for military uniforms; each time has been a great experience! Super close to Fort Shafter’s back gate. Limited street parking but parking is also available in the small lot behind the building. Great service, friendly and helpful staff, great pricing, quick turnaround. I would recommend this place!

All in all I am surprised there isn’t more reviews on Unilocal.Maybe they need to add Unilocal to their business plan and put stickers on their doors. I’ve had my uniforms altered here and had a patch sewed on to a jacket and got it back in two days. I’ll be back.

I was nervous cause there where no reviews. I dropped my Class B off to get cleaned and pressed and have my awards and medals put on. Only 20 $ and the staff is very friendly. I will add more review once I get my uniform back
