Liz’s BBQ

Closest to how I remember Filipino BBQ should taste like. Ok portion for the price. Salad could use a bit more carrots and maybe add cucumbers but overall not bad if you want a quick fix and don’t want Mickey D or Taco Bell.

Kind of expensive as far as plate lunches go but so ONO! The price and the fact that the rice was way too wet this time are the reasons they only got 3 stars.

A little pricey compared to some of the other vendors and food trucks that you can find by the NEX or on Hickam but I do love the flavor of their meats when grilled. I usually get the combo plate, which comes with Pork, Chicken, and Beef, rice, tossed salad and a drink. That watery BBQ sauce is on point. I’m pretty sure that is what they marinade their meat in. Anyway good spot to grab some lunch but watch out some of the meat can be fatty/​chewy. I don’t mind it but it might be a turn off for others. Yay! I’m a fan.

The food was pretty good, very flavorful. My husband had the chicken plate and I had the pork plate. We liked how the plates came with rice, salad, and a drink. If you’re looking for a quick lunch, this is the right spot for you. If we are at the nex, I’ll definitely go to this place again. Won’t be a «OMG I want Lizs BBQ» out of the way kind of trip, but if you’re near it then I strongly suggest it. The staff wasn’t too friendly, I am hoping it was just an off day.

This place is so yummy, the best bbq in Hawaii. I definitely recommend eating here! Easy menu, great food, great service. Yum yum yum. Nom nom nom.

Located right in front of The Mall at Pearl Harbor (NEX), but you will not have a hard time finding it because your sense of smell will kick in. The delicious aroma of the grill will make your mouth water! We usually get the grilled chicken plate (comes with white rice and salad) plus a drink. This is a great place to grab a quick but delicious bite before, after or during your shopping. You don’t even have to be military to enjoy this deliciousness. I do have to admit that sometimes the rice is too mushy and bland for my liking and the chicken not too well done for me, but overall soooo yummy.

The smell of the bbq cooking is so divine I had to finally give them a try. I ordered a mixed plate with beef and chicken. It can with a salad, dressing of your choice, rice & a drink. All for $ 10.75. The staff was friendly and nice.
Maybe I caught them on an off day or I was eating left over rice from the day before because my rice was very dry and some parts were even crunchy. Salad was drowning in dressing but I didn’t mind because I like the extra ranch. The beef was very tough. I swear I chewed a million times before swallowing. The flavor was good though. The chicken was better. I really enjoyed that. The food wasn’t terrible (except rice) but it also wasn’t the greatest. I will likely try them again, hoping the rice ordeal was a fluke.

This awesome little bbq kiosk is right outside the Nex shopping mall. I have always smelled the meats grilling and hoped one day my honey and I would have time to stop by. Well that happened last night. We both ordered the mixed bbq plate platter which came with chicken, beef and pork. The sauce itself was lovely and tasty. It was sweet and tangy. The flavorings from the meats being grilled gave it that nice charcoal seasoning. The platter came with a scoop of rice, salad and a can of soda. On the other side of the kiosk station there held a variety of sauces from hot, soy and vinegar. Once we got home I excitedly opened my container and cut a piece of beef to eat. Oh how delicious and tasty it was. The pork and chicken was tender. My favorite would be the pork and beef. The meats were not at all dry except there were pieces of fat stuck to a few which I had to pull and discard. After I had devoured my meal, I sat back on my couch satisfied with a smile on my face. I then wished I had perhaps a pound of these to eat for the following day. I will be back these people know what they are doing!

I ordered the BBQ chicken combo with all rice. It was probably the best BBQ I’ve had so far on the island. Soo much flavor and the chicken was very tender and succulent.

Food is always good. I prefer the pork, but my husband likes the mixed plate. He did say the beef is a little dry though.

Liz’s BBQ is located right in front of the entrance to NEX and commissary. Every time you walk by, you can smell the delicious BBQ. I’m not gonna deny that this place is a bit overpriced for the portion you get, compared to all the other Hawaiian BBQ places. However it does taste good and it is convenient as a quick dining option at NEX before or after shopping!

I don’t even eat meat and this place smells amazing… The smell alone is reason to stick around.
My husband’s favorite is the pork. If it’s your first time there, they also have a combo plate. You get your choice of meat, rice, a salad, and also a drink for like $ 10!
They told us once that the meat wouldn’t be ready and we would have to wait a bit for it to finish cooking… It wasn’t long at all and we got to watch and smell it all cook.
The guys working the booth are always very nice.
This place is a must if you’re looking for a decent, quick meal. I’m pretty sure they’re packed around lunch time though!

I could be belly poppin full and still want to eat here when I walk by. Yes, it’s that good. Quality is always lip-​smackingly delicious and does not disappoint! Chicken plate is a must– served with rice, side salad and a can of soda.

Seriously, this place is SOOOOOOO delicious! Get the pork for an experience you won’t forget! YUM!

I remember when I first moved to Hawaii I was really confused by the love of macaroni salad. However shortly after my arrival, I found myself in love with plate lunches, and rating places on their macaroni salad… Needless to say if I find a place lunch place barren of macaroni salad, it makes me a sad panda.
That’s what happened when we wandered up to Liz’s BBQ… Sad macaroni saladless panda…
Liz’s offers chicken, beef, pork and a mixed plate all of which include rice and a green salad and a can of soda. The prices are reasonable, and the meat is pretty tasty, but it was missing a tiny bit of oomph. The rice was nice and sticky, and the salad was fresh. The soda being included in the price was a nice touch.
I had the chicken plate which had about five pieces of chicken in it for $ 8.75 which was a great price. My husband had the mixed plate which had chicken, pork and steak. He said that the steak tasted a bit like beef jerky, which I’m not sure was good or bad.
The food wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad. Wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again, but as the Unilocal gods say it was a-​ok.

They forgot about my order and I waited about 15 minutes for the 1 skewer I ordered. Great tasting, however, had too much fat and not enough meat for my liking.

There’s nothing inherently amiss with Liz’s BBQ, but to rate this place anything higher than 3 stars basically tells the world you’ve never had a plate lunch in Hawaii prior to your review.
Liz’s is completely average. It’s fine for if you’re too lazy to take the 10 minutes at home to throw it together, but other than that, if you believe the Unilocal consensus that you’re going to get a 4-​Star plate, forget it. Compared to others, Liz’s serves a small portion of meat and has a very limited salad dressing /​sauce selection. Typically it takes less than 2 – 3 minutes to finish the meal. In fact, you’ll spend more time waiting in line than you will eating the food.

My husband and I would pass by Liz’s BBQ all the time while coming in and out of the NEX or commissary. One day we just decided to try them out, and we’ve been going back ever since! I’ve had the opportunity to try everything on the menu but the pork sticks, and I’ve yet to be disappointed, but my favorite is definitely the chicken — so tender, juicy, and delicious, especially when you add more of the BBQ sauce (located on the side counter next to the utensils and napkins) on top of it and the rice. Yum! Every time we’ve gone in the past couple of months, they’ve been nothing but friendly to us – maybe because we smile so much in their vicinity in our excitement to get some BBQ!
My only complaints are that the plates can be a bit pricey (although not terrible compared to similar style plates on the island) and that every now and then it seems like we’ll get an extra fatty piece of meat, which isn’t too great. Otherwise this is definitely our go-​to spot for some great, fast BBQ that’s close to home!

I’ve always wanted to try this place whenever I pass by as I’m on my way into the NEX. It smells soooooo good!
My sister and her family were hungry and we needed a quick bite to eat after visiting the Arizona Memorial. Since we were on our way to the NEX, we decided to give this place a try.
The BF and I shared a BBQ stick plate. You get 2 BBQ sticks, one scoop of rice, and a tossed green salad w/​dressing, as well as a soda.
The cost was $ 8.25. A bit steep to me for 2 BBQ sticks… but I must say, they were pretty yummy! Well marinated and very tender. Just wish they gave one more stick or the price was a little cheaper.
My brother in law got the BBQ and everyone else got BBQ sticks. No complaints on taste!

You would think this low key food cart wouldn’t be good right? WRONG!!! The slicked BBQ Pork was amazing! Im from the mainland … and let me say … you can only get this stuff from home made spots … dont let the small cart fool you … this small cart PACK a BIG punch!!!
Served with an ICE COLD PINEAPPLE CRUSH!!! OMFG!!! SO BOMB!
One scoop of rice, Side salad, and bomb pieces of pork!!! put some their home made BBQ on it … and its OVER!!! DONE DEAL!!! NO TURNING BACK!!! SO GOOD!!!
