I would always drive to KCC Farmers Market to get this but I didn’t realize that they are in the Ala Moana Food Court… duh! The ladies at the Food Court location are really friendly & informative and will even provide you with yummy samples. I must say that the samples were all great. Locally grown and pretty good pricing… try it next time you’re at the Food Court or at KCC Open market on Saturday’s.

Had to try farmed abalone in comparison to the wild California abalone. They gave us taste of the grilled abalone, butter and ginger flavor. I liked the ginger over the butter. For my meal I chose the abalone baked sushi… yummy so flavorful and made a bit of abalone go a long way.

As a local born and bred girl what I’m about to say may sound sacrilegious but please just bear with me… Kona Abalone is okay. It doesn’t melt my tastebuds or make everything seem right with the world. It is just okay. For myself I got the $ 9 garlic and butter abalone as well as the abalone sushi. They were both good. I definitely like to support local farmer’s so I don’t mind the price, especially considering their costly Ala Moana location. Honestly all I can say when friends ask how Kona Abalone tastes is… meh. It was a fun eating experience?

Grilled abalone, sashimi and sushi is all really good! My total damage after I bought a couple each was about $ 100. Still way cheaper than getting it at a restaurant. Also the service was friendly and excellent.

Awesome taste! Very reasonable price. Convenient if you are at the mall. You simply can’t beat the taste of fresh BBQ shellfish. Go after the lunch rush and you get really quick service.

I was surprised to see koan abalone set up shop here, their offerings are limited to abalone but being next to the food court it is a great complement to a full meal. The prices are pretty reasonable when you compare them to restraaunts that actually serve abalone and they are very well done and fresh here. The poke had a very nice mix of seaweed/kelp/ocean salad and definitely balances out all the flavors. I hope they are here to stay as it adds a very nice treat for those looking for something special!

Quaint little shop with friendly service and really great abalone. Probably the best freshly prepared and poke style I’ve had.

Don’t like waking up before 8 am on Saturdays? Your travel schedule doesn’t allow you to attend KCC farmer’s market? Well, you can get your abalone fix here. Opened in February, this specialized store offers grilled abalone with the same condiments offered at the market. They also sell the same prepacked boxes and tins for gifting here. The new offerings were abalone sashimi, poke, salad, and rice bowl. The sashimi was fresh but on the tough side. The poke was just okay as the seaweed detracted from the abalone slices. The price point is on the higher side, meaning it’s geared more towards tourists. There are more inexpensive and generously portioned meals available throughout the food court. Mention or use their free drink coupon if you spend $ 10.00+. Will still shop here, but prefer their KCC stand for the atmosphere and flavor(over a grill). Heck, it’s abalone!

This review is based off of kcc farmers market location. You can get 2 for $ 12 or a smaller size 4 for $ 12. You can get them raw or grilled. There are different sauces you can top them off with. They recently opened up a shop in the Ala Moana food court, but ill have to save that for another review.

I’m giving 3 stars because of the good work this company is doing but the food isn’t worth the $ 11.00. The service was excellent however the abalone only comes 2 ways and my BBQ abalone was rubber, the shoyu rice over cooked and the whole bento seemed like it’d been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. I hope they figure out a way to make this venture work but they’ll have to improve the cooling/holding time in order to make a great product.

You know when you’ve got a good thing when quality is consistently served. You can now find the famous Kona abalone at many different locations. From your favorite sushi bar to the KCC Farmer’s Market on the weekends to Ward Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays. I also heard they have a location at Ala Moana Shopping Center as well. Move over bacon, abalone is taking over! Grilled and sliced on the barbie with a little butter, ponzu and Tabasco is amaaazing! You don’t know what you’re missing until you’ve tried it.

I have talked to a few of these guys and they really are doing great things on Big Island. They have a great product– seafood and they harvest it by taking deep ocean water around Kona and then they grow the Abalone. Really sweet meat — they sell it sometimes in a Sams or Costco only a few times a year and now they have a great shop in the food court Ala Moana– wonderful to see them growing their buisness and helping Hawaii and Big Island. Keep up the great work.
