KITV 4

Can’t watch KITV anymore. There’s something wrong with their feed and the background sound is about five times louder than what people are saying! It’s been going on for about four weeks and I’m really tired of it. I talked to Oceanic Cable and they said it is ABC not them. I’ve been watching Good Morning America and lots of shows on ABC but I guess it’s so long, see you later! I suppose if enough people stop watching ABC they might get the message that there is something terribly wrong with their feed to their cable stations.

Boo! Biased, unfair reporting on feral cats. Properly managed feral colonies are a humane, proven method to manage and gradually reduce the problem. Why not attack the source of the problem – a culture that says it’s okay to abandon animals, and to trap and dump other people’s animals? If they can’t adequately research the facts on toxidio plasmosis before issuing inflammatory reports, what else are they giving us one-​sided views on?

Two KITV productions recently promoted the euthanization of feral cats. (Read Murder.)
The reporter blames feral cats for the death of a monk seal, and a threat to the nene population. Both of these articles were biased, not well researched, and misrepresented the threat of the spread of toxoplasmosis gondii by feral cats.
There can be problems with toxoplasmosis, but it can be spread in a number of ways, not just by cats. Many animals are already infected, including most mammals, 30−50% of all humans and pigs, dogs, rodents and birds. In most cases T.G. produces no symptoms, but in immune compromised individuals it can be fatal. Most humans who are exposed develop immunity to T.G.
Feral cats are problematic in Hawai‘i, yet no one is offering sane solutions except the Lanai Cat Shelter and the scores of volunteers who, paying out of our own pockets, are Trapping, Neutering, Rehoming and Maintaining feral cats in colonies (TNRM).
Cats can spread toxoplasmosis only for a short time in kitten hood, shortly after infection caused by eating an infected bird or rodent. Some doctors expose their pre-​pubescent female children to infected kittens to develop immunity so they don’t pass on the infection during pregnancy. Uninfected people can become infected by eating raw meat, handling cat feces, being licked by an infected dog, butchering a wild pig, or any fluid transmission with an actively infected mammal or bird.
Why can’t KITV just tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? This is simply yellow journalism.

I can’t even give this station 1 star because they choose to only show one side of the tragedy that is today’s feral cat situation. Instead of promoting real solutions and putting funds toward the hard working people who are on the front lines to save ferals and end the spread through humane programs. They turn to mankind’s true nature and promote killing. Shame on You KITV4. Even if You dislike cats, keep Your opinions to Yourself it has no place in balanced journalism.

Worst one sided reporting ever! while many of us are fighting the war againts the illegal dog and cat meat trade in S. Korea there’s a place in our own backyard many call paradise who are planning just as hideous a fate for many Island animals! Tourist should boycott such a place maybe we should start calling it hell not paradise!

They have been promoting slaughtering feral cats recently, yet only show one side of the story. Very unbalanced reporting, that is inciting people who already don’t like cats, to harm them. There are other solutions to explore. Why is killing something the first choice? Awful reporting, so not a fan.

I am sick of KITV4 constantly agitating for the senseless slaughter of innocent feral cats. It’s not their fault rotten humans dumped them to starve. Do you not know history? England tried that and lost 100,000 people to the Great Plague. Australia did that and was over run with rats that ate all their crops. You people have no compassion and do not understand that Trap Neuter Release is the compassionate way to manage feral cat population. You think a gooses life is more important? They BOTH matter. I am going to call for the boycott of your station and trust me when I say there are legions of cat defenders on O’ahu. I give you 1 star because I can’t give you 0.

The other day I heard a KITV reporter using the word «puppy» referring to weather condition. Another reporter from another station like refer to Hawaii as «the 808». I’ve also been observing reporters modeling clothes more for parties than a reporter reporting the news. Seems like someone is getting free plugs and someone is getting free clothes. I think reporters should stick with language people understand and not use slangs that attempts to make them look groovy. The program is called news, stick to the business of news.

Great Programs, Great Staff even Great Location.

I get a generic feeling when watching this news channel. The overall look of the set and reporters are lax compared to KHON and HNN. I did give them a chance when they started the 1 hour 10pm newscast but I didn’t care for it as they repeat stories to fill up the time. On the positive side, their neighbor island news coverage and camera footage are better than other stations.

More Local Stories! More Local News! Thank goodness for Google Maps instead of actual camera footage, Lead stories like water main breaks, bathroom dedications in Hawaii-​Kai, and the fantastic Eclipse of the moon –oooh, and all those YouTube videos and Mainland news footages that out numbers Hawaii stories– oh and don’t forget the accurate weather reports, Hawaiian moon phases, and the Blitz!- Local Football — where we show more DJ and techno music shots than the «One» highlight play from each of all of the games around the state, in one nite — especially that season changing match up — from the cellar dwellers of the OIA and ILH. And let’s not leave out if a public figure gets in trouble — let’s plaster their picture all over TV and run the story over and over and over — for days! Even before a determination is made on whether they are guilty or not. Yep — escape from the Boys home — Lead Story! And complain on top of it that the media should be told so the public can be informed !!! But — did those guyz ever get captured? I think the public should be told too! I still see guyz that look like escapees — they’re everywhere! But the real escapees –have been caught already — but no story. If there was one — did they broadcast it once? –twice? — oh yeah — someone ran over a fire hydrant — that’s more I mportant! Or maybe there is Vog blowing up from the Big Island! Oh My! It could be the end of the world — wait it will be mostly sunny — except for that rain storm in Nuuanu on my way to work!

Don’t really know what to say except I was an avid viewer of the KITV morning news shows all week long until newscasters started leaving the news crew replaced by new, unknowns mixed in with not so interesting newscaster anchors now. All I’m saying is the morning news show playing field is much more flat and I’ll be channel surfing more often now. I do like the evening news though ! So I balanced the rating to a 3 star.

If it weren’t for Yunji, I’d never watch kitv! And she isn’t trying hard to speak good English, helloooo, she lived in the mainland, man! She’s the only reason kitv is still in competition with the other stations. Great strategic move in bringing her home! Kudos!!!

I was at an entrepreneur fair, talking to a person manning a booth. Then Lara Yamada abruptly interrupted me and spoke that person about doing a news interview without apologizing or even acknowledging me. RUDE.

5 stars for Yasmin, Amber Lynn and Mahealani!!! Love the morning news. Dan’s leaving to be the producer.

This is my favorite for local news. I have been a fan of Paula Akana and Dick Allgire for at least twenty years. I hate to leave anyone out, as I can’t think of anyone there that does not seem like family. Other favorites are Yasmin Dar and Moani Nabarro. The new guy (Webster?) seems pretty cool as well.

Pamela Young and Gary Sprinkle are the best news anchors in the history of Hawaiian Television. SO much chemistry and professionalism. I heard they write all their own stories, not just read them from the teleprompter. I will never watch another set of news anchors besides them.
