Karaoke Hut

Not many places to go to since Krazy Karaōke closed down. This is an alternative if you’re in town (Kapahulu, Kaimuki area). You can BYOB with $ 30/​hour or 50% during 1−8pm for a small 4 people room. You can easily spend hours singing, so make sure to watch your time. You pay when you’re done.

The rooms are old, the walls are thin, the machine is outdated, and everything is sticky. They had two song books in the room, both of which had pages that would stick together, and popular song lists from 2013. The karaōke machine used a very antique looking remote and old fashioned lyrics set-​up. It was weird. It felt like I was singing karaōke back in 2001 again.
The walls are paper thin. We could hear other rooms talking and singing clearly. Every time one of them opened/​closed their door, it would shake the walls to our room. None of the fancy lights in the room worked except the blacklight (kind of), but with the big glass window looking out into the lit hall, it didn’t really do the effect that it’s supposed to.
The mics seemed pretty new-​ish, which was nice because other karaōke places seem to want to keep the mics until they utterly crap out. The drinks were good.

We love it here ! the staff from our salon –Color Queen Salon –love to go there after work to unwind, They are always friendly and sweet and we have a great time, Its only 3 blocks away so its easy to get too .Erin has the best voice, so we let her do the singing ! Oh, karaōke hut. Such divey karaōke bar goodness.
Music can be a little expensive ($ 2 a song, eep!) but the song selection isn’t too bad, and the wait isn’t ever really too long. Plus, they have two pool tables and two dart boards, so there’s stuff for the non-​karaōke folk. :) They also have a few private rooms, if you want more Japanese-​style karaōke.
The food is, well, let’s just say I would eat before you get there. Haha But the more bar fare (i.e., fries) is not too bad and the drinks are reasonably priced (there’s a drink special every day of the week) and made pretty stiff.
There’s usually parking in the parking lot, but if not, there is residential parking nearby — although spots in the neighborhood can be hard to come by.
Also, the bathrooms aren’t the best (okay, they’re kind of bad) — but that’s what makes a bar divey, am I right?
With that said, Karaōke Hut is a good time for anyone, singer or not. :)

This place Only got a 1 star for the convince… Honestly service is poor and ive been over charged more then once. The so called managers over drink with customers and blame them for their own mistakes. So sad!!! I dont mind spending money but servers shouldn’t sneak drinks on your tab?! Right?! Just ask! Customers are welcoming… way more then managers and bartenders… So! sad!!! No bueno!

Had a great time singing some karaōke here while on business. Very relaxed atmosphere. We rented a room and sang away.
Pros – we were able to bring our own beer!
Con – only up through 2014 for songs but still seem to trying add more contemporary tunes.

I got a black belt in thee arts of karaōke, and I tend to remove that belt when I sing and stand on the tables here at this place I call home. Anything that is revealed during our karaōke parties as far as body parts go are between me and the attendees. If we decide to go streaking shortly after though, that’s your fault for looking.
PLACE: located directly in public view on the main vein of Kapahulu. You’ve passed this place, that’s a guarantee, and trust me. .. you want to go in it. They have a parking lot directed in the front but it gets packed quick because of it’s popularity so be prepped to look for residential parking adjacent to the place. Otherwise, just park at Safeway across the street or at other establishments near and walk on over. You can guess the percentages of getting a parking ticket later. .. but don’t think too hard, let your lowered inhibitions (by alcohol) let you determine that life decision.
AMBIANCE: this place is just Mr. Fantastic. They have thee best song selections by far, better than any other karaōke spot I’ve been to. .. except for the one in my shower. That one will always have the best songs available ready to be sung slaughteredly. They got all the classic songs but as far as updated radio played music, not so much. .. that’s good news. Get a private room, there is a public lounge with booths and bar games but this is not Karaōke Hut’s stronghold.
The song books they have come in two organizational ways: 1) by song 2) by artist. This makes it super convenient to find your peanut butter jam.
It does get packed here Fridays and Saturdays so you might want to reserve ahead of time. Let’s go ahead cut the excess and lay out why this place is so good:
1) you can bring your own food
2) you can bring your own alcohol. .. yes that’s right, bring your own poison. That’s a recipe for all kinds of hood-​rat fun with your hood-​rat friends already
3) there is no time limit for both food and drinks. Workers here don’t barge in keeping track of the things you bring, especially with the things you do in here. So let loose and show the world that you can’t sing
With all of that said, please keep in mind that this place is a circus. You see all kinds of weird happening here, so keep calm when you see two shirtless grown-​ass men singing loudly into a microphone that isn’t plugged towards a television screen that isn’t even turned on. Come here with your A-​game and you’ll be fine. This place is just simply a great place to have great times with great people.

My friends & I always rent private rooms to come here. The rates are fair & the service is great. The songs aren’t always the most up-​to-​date but you can be sure you’ll always find the classic karaōke faves. They’re always willing to extend your rental also (as long as they’re not packed with more reservations after yours). The guys at the front bar/​office area are always happy to provide also. I always say it’s the little things that matter so when I ask to borrow something as simple as a bottle opener & I get a happy «Oh yeah! No problem! Just hold on to it!» it makes a great impression. At our most recent visit, we learned they now charge a $ 5 corkage fee per person in order to BYOB. I’m actually glad they’re doing this! Think of all the money they miss out by letting folks bring in their own food & drinks! One of the workers stopped by our door when he overheard us talking about walking across the street to Safeway for a bag of ice. He went right ahead & brought us a 5gal bucket full of ice & was even offering to bring cups or other utensils. Again, the little things make a huge difference!

This place is situated almost directly across from Safeway, Kapahulu. It’s easy to find, the signage is clear and there was plenty of free parking right up front.
This review is for the bar side of the business. I’ve never rented a karaōke room from them and probably won’t.
The waitress was on us as soon as we walked in. I cannot complain one bit about the service because those girls were really nice and ON IT.
It was mentioned to me that the place has a «buy me drinkie» bar kind of feel to it, I agreed. I tend not to mind those type of places but in case you do, keep that in mind.
Sadly, I cannot give this place a good review. Bummer because service was so good but man, the karaōke system on the bar side was terrible. I normally sing a handful of familiar songs so I have a basis for comparison in this regard. What is up with the karaōke system? The volume was too loud at times, the microphone was too soft and if perhaps I could hear myself I really didn’t want to because either the song was too fast, there was no cue to start singing (between music breaks) or something. Even the songs which I consider «easy» made me feel like I had never sung them before. GEES! I also couldn’t believe that the songs are 2. each. I’ve never paid that much for bar karaōke. Save yourself and don’t sing there.
I also did notice that the price of drinks were more than I’d expected. I took a photo of the food menu because sheesh, it really appeared to be over-​priced. I’d suggest going across the street for food. Besides Safeway’s hot/​salad bar and deli there are a number of fast food type places which will likely help you get your money’s worth.

If this had been a year ago, I would have given them 2 stars… But, they’ve made some up-​grades since the last time I’ve been here!

Tried the fried chicken, chop steak, meat jun, and pizza rolls… All were pretty good, but a little over priced…
the karaōke room rental is cheaper than Krazy, so its a good alternative if you’re trying to save a buck…
the parking lot is notoriously bad, and get plenty kine hooligans hanging out there too, so just be careful when walking back to your car (one time, some a$$holes put their beer bottles behind my tires!!! jerks!!! check your car before you pull out of the lot!!!).

Probably the best karaōke bar I have been to with a group. The hourly room rates are good, the room was clean, the song selection was huge, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It is BYOB (but has a full bar). They provided cups, plates, ice, etc. They also server food but allow outsode food as well. All around a very good experience.

What is up with Karaōke? I didn’t realize it has such a big deal here in Hawaii. My friends wanted to do Karaōke one week night, so I called a few places thinking it would be so easy to get in, but many of them were fully booked! Karaōke Hut is no different, it is also very popular, but with a very different crowd. The patrons tend to be older and much more local. The song book is all in english (as opposed to those other Karaōke places that cater to a lot of asians by providing soju cocktails and k-​pop songs).
The rooms are just alright, nothing special. You pay per hour for the room as opposed to pay by song. Like I said, they have only english songs and a pretty good selection. Although they serve alcohol both at an open space bar and near the karaōke rooms, you can byob too. There is plenty of parking, and it is easy to stop by foodland or safeway on the way. Although there is a very different crowd at Karaōke Hut, you won’t see much of them if you are in a Karaōke room.

Not bad as far as Karaōke huts.err.bars…go. It’s got a general bar area where you can Karaōke right out there with all the strangers. Or you can get a private room for you and your friends can enjoy if you’re trying to keep your golden pipes a secret.
We always get a room because our talents are not a thing that everyone should be privy too. But more than that, we just like being able to queue up songs and sing whatever we like whenever we want as many times as we want. I think your own room runs about $ 25−30/hour, but I never bothered calculating the actual price per hour
It’s BYOB as well, and that includes food. Grab some pickup and some drinks on the way. They do have a full bar you can buy drinks at, but really, why would you pay bar prices instead of just bringing your own drinks?
Good selection of songs, they have most everything we look for. The song books have gotten better and organize by artist or by song now (used to just be by song title and that was pain). They also have automated the system so you just enter songs with a keypad like most places. When we first started going there you had to write it on a paper with your room number and take it out to the bar to queue up; no longer.
The interior, décor, and atmosphere is nothing special, but its still one of our favorites since it’s outside of downtown/​waikiki and it’s BYOB and food. Makes for a cheap fun night of Karaōke.

Synoposis: If you’re dorming, this is one option of a place to go to sing if Toma Enterprise is busy and don’t have availability. Drinks and food are allowed in the rooms. In the lounge area there are pool tables and comfortable circle tables with sofas to sit. Unfortunately, they force you to buy 2 drinks if you’re going to stay. Like are you serious? Even when I lied to the waitress that I was DD, she said I need to order Cranberry juice, etc!!! R-​I-​D-​I-​C-​U-​L-​O-​U-​S! Overall, it’s pretty okay. Ideally, I would rather go to Krazy Karaōke on a Monday night.
Environment: Um, ghetto! Definitely not a place of luxury outside and when you first enter. When going in the room though, it’s awesome. The rooms are red, with interesting pictures. They have disco balls, and comfortable sofas to sit on. This place is definitely a must in a group.
Songs: GHETTO! You have to write it on a piece of paper and hand it to the people. If you want to cancel it, you have to call using the phone within the room. Ugh yea. can someone say «UPGRADE!»
Food: Never had their food, BYOF!
Drinks: BYOB! Safeway is right there. come on, let’s not be lazy!
Parking: Simplistic, however, if more space is needed you have to park alongside the road. You can attempt to risk Safeway… but you may be towed towed away!

Came here as part of Girl Fest activities and had a great time with strangers! I prefer private-​room karaōke to open karaōke at a bar, and although Karaōke Hut looks a bit on the older and dingier side, it’s really about the people you share the fun with.
That said, this place has a great selection of music including a lot of the latest music that I think other karaōke places might not even have yet. Most of the lyrics are on a plain background instead of a music video like in the Korean noraebangs, but if you got more songs than other places, it doesn’t really matter how you present it, right?
One thing I really didn’t like about this place though was you can’t enter your own songs and have full control over the songs — you can’t skip songs you changed your mind on, and you can’t sing half a song and skip to the next one (which I sometimes do to save more time so we can sing more songs… repeating the chorus over and over and over again gets kinda boring sometimes). You can’t change keys or anything. And a lot of the lyrics can either be wrong or the instrumental is wrong so it’s really difficult to sing along.
I can’t comment on the price, but hopefully if I saw it I wouldn’t be surprised.

I came here to hangout a few months ago. Nice place where you can get your groove on. Sing for $ 1/​song. No biggie. Drinks were fine but they sure do offer a lot of limes!
I don’t know much about this place but you can come and sing to your heart’s content. Bar is aiiiright. Nothing special.

I’ve passed by Karaōke Hut for years and last night was my first time visiting this neon lit Kapahulu landmark. Okay so maybe it’s not a landmark but everyone knows where to go when you say «the place that has the red neon lights in front of it.»
Walking into the Karaōke Hut you might think, hmmm did I bring my knife because this place feels a bit sketchy? But once you sit down it’s super mellow and we had a really great time with our friends. You can tell from the look at the «usual suspects» at this bar that there are definitely a group of older men who are regulars. The booths are nice and spacious so you can easily hang with a whole bunch of friends. Our waitress came over quickly, took our orders and was very speedy in bringing over the mics for karaōke. Songs are $ 1 and they have disposable covers on the mics so at least you’re only sharing the kooties of everyone who sang on that particular night. I know that doesn’t make you feel any better but I’m trying not to throw up.
The sound system is decent although I had a hard time hearing myself when I sang. Maybe it was where I was sitting because there was a guy at the bar who sang «Mack the Knife» and he was astounding! I don’t care for most karaōke singers but this guy had some serious skills. My boss was with me that night and I told her that I bet there are more karaōke bars per square foot than any city in America. If you count all the K-​bars you know that Honolulu has got a sweet chance of scoring a completely useless accolade.
On our way out I looked around the back and saw that they had two pool tables and even more seating. My BF & I will be back on a weeknight because I looove to sing karaōke and play pool! I’ll leave my knife at home but will be sure to bring some extra mic covers so I can change them out when it’s my turn to sing.
