Ka Lei Eggs

I remember I bought them from Safeway grocery store and I thought they were very great selection and did not find any broken egg in the box that I selected so guess I was lucky.
Eggs are essential for baking, cooking, and mixing so guess i would not be able to have well balanced diet without it.

That is about $ 2.40 a dozen of random sizes of eggs!
These are the thin shell variety… they can’t sell it to restaurants but perfect for home use!
Buy some and split with your friends and family!

OMG! This is the first time purchasing eggs here. I wasn’t aware that I am not supposed to take pictures of the price board. I guess it’s misleading when customers come in after seeing the prices posted on Unilocal.The ladies were nice about it. So I decided to also post that the store will be closed on Sundays, effective September 20, 2015. They are closed on Labor Day.

I usually try to buy local when possible & was happy that Ka Lei has Sunday hours in an easy to find location (near Nimitz & Waiakamilo streets) as their previous location in Kaimuki that we used to visit closed. I bought 2 dozen jumbo brown for $ 13.50. I also bought some random things (lavender sachets that were on sale for $.50). Other random things for sale includes: egg shaped soaps, chicharrones & taro chips.
Staff are friendly & quick.

I love that I can get local eggs nearby my place. I can usually get a parking spot right in front of the store and the service is decent. It’s quite pricey, but they offer specials/​discounts (I always get cracked eggs).

Mom: I want to eat jumbo eggs!
Me: What are jumbo eggs?
Mom: SUPER BIG EGGS
Me: They have those???
While trying to satisfy my mom’s desire to eat jumbo sized eggs, I stumbled upon Ka Lei Eggs on Unilocal.I read through some of the reviews to gauge the pricing and their daily offerings but it’s easier to go in person to check it out.
On that particular day, two trays of jumbo eggs (white) were on special for $ 20. The woman working let us know that one tray was approximately $ 13 (and something cents). I’m under the impression that the pricing on the wall indicates ONE tray and not two. People have been saying that it is cheaper than costco but two trays at Costco will run you around $ 15-​$ 16. If the prices on the wall indicate one tray prices, two trays of medium eggs will be around $ 20 (listed at $ 10 each)? I’m not sure though, the prices were confusing and when I asked, I ended up getting even more confused.
The daily deals are always different and they’re worth checking out. The jumbo eggs we got for $ 20 were definitely a good deal, especially since the eggs itself were noticeably bigger than our usual pickups from costco and samsclub. They do offer specials on checked eggs if you don’t mind a few flaws here and there. The specials are always different though so you may want to call ahead and verify prices if you’re looking for something in particular.

This place cracks me up! In the former location on Waikamilo of Hawaii Paint Supply (no longer in business) which was Keith-son’s employer. Nearly the corner of Nimitz. Stopped by yesterday after reading Fran’s No Ka Oi review and was gleefully excited at the placement of the business.
The ladies at the counter are all business, eggs only, order and exit. Should have taken a couple of pictures but I got the feeling they just wanted me to get my eggs and get out so the next person could do the same. Bought my five dozen JUMBO eggs for $ 23.75. The prices are lower than most places. Love the jumbos for the delight of the double yolks. Twinsie yolks are family fun… I know we are easily amused but it’s always exciting to crack those eggs in a skillet and see them. With the Jumbos they are very frequent.
Easy to find, parking in lot fronting the business. Know what size egg order you want and you are in and out in less than five minutes. Support local, fresher than anywhere else, from coup to refrigerator in one day… no shipping needed.

If you like and eat eggs this is the place!
We purchase 5 doz every 2 weeks and prefer the Jumbo size for $ 20– a great deal.

Noticed another reviewer got her checked eggs for 3 trays/​$ 10. I got 2 trays (about 5.5 dozen) for $ 10, still a good deal, but it might be worth it, to call in advance, and see what kind of checked eggs specials they have for the day. If I’d known they would even be cheaper, I’d have waited.
A caveat: Checked eggs can’t be used for commercial/​restaurant purposes, only home use. I think because they have minor cracks and damage, so Ka Lei is concerned about liability. In my set, the cracks were almost imperceptible.
There’s all the nice Provence-​style, scented soaps (egg shaped and otherwise) that came from the defunct Wai’alae store, at a discount. Some as cheap as $ 1! Good stocking stuffers.

I’ve eaten my share of eggs over the years… especially egg whites back in da day when I was heavily into my weightlifting… prices have gone up a little, but they are by far the cheapest place to get eggs! And I’m talking cheaper than Costco, or Sam’s Club.
I made my way to Kalihi today, and got 2 trays of eggs (30 eggs per tray)…and guess how much I ‘wen pay?
Yes gangies… just $ 10 bucks for two trays! Yes, 60 eggs for $ 10 smackers! Now how can you go wrong with that?

You like eggs? May I suggest you check out this place in Kalihi… it’s just down the road (a block or two, going Makai) from «The Wholesale Mattress Co.».
There’s lots of free parking in the parking lot (which is shared by other businesses).
Real easy to find, and the new location is waaaaaaaaay better than the old location that was on Kalihi Street. Chance ‘em gang!

Yes, I drive all the way to town to get eggs… JK I’m already in town so I might as well buy eggs on the way home right? Love their new location because the parking lot is bigger and easier to navigate. I recently bought three trays of checked brown eggs for $ 10 WUTTT. Checked eggs may be slightly cracked and/​or a mixture of different sized eggs. If you’re only using the eggs for baking checked eggs are for you.

This place is awesome! So much cheaper than buying eggs from supermarket or SAMs/​Costco. If you do a lot of baking or eat a lot of eggs this is the place to get your eggs. I usually get the eggs that are on special as they are mismatched or have a slightly cracked shell (integrity of the egg is still great). Such an awesome deal!

I’ve always been an avid supporter for local products especial fresh grown items here in hawaii. Their newest location is right next to Alley Katz Karaōke on Waiakamilo. They used to be located on Kalihi St. for as long as I could remember but recently moved to this location not too long ago. There’s ample more parking spaces than there was at the old location. We needed to get bundle of eggs for a party we were prepping and thought this place would be perfect.
I always look for tray combo deals they have listed under their specials and there was a deal going on for slightly crack eggs that was only $ 10 for 3 trays, totally 90 eggs. That’s pretty much $.11 an egg. You can’t get any cheaper than that. The slightly cracked eggs are perfectly fine just as long as you don’t boil them, purposely meant for your everyday home use type of eggs. I also bought the jumbo egg deal that was 2 trays for $ 20 just in case we needed to boil eggs for any of the dishes than needed to be made. Each tray comes with 30 eggs.
The workers there are very friendly and always help me decide which deal is best to get. The menu has different types of eggs you can buy but I just get the cheapest deals since eggs are eggs to me. I have no preference. Definitely a place to get eggs for a bundle of affordable deals.
