We specialize in wedding photography and portrait sessions such as engagements, honeymoons, or family. We would describe ourselves as photojournalistic and contemporary. We love to capture moments as they happen but also realize that some of the best pictures take a little bit of set-​up. Our aim is to use lighting in unique ways to deliver photos that are flattering and unlike anything you could get from a phone camera. Our aim is to make your photography affordable without suffering greatly on quality. We can offer lower prices than many photographers in the area and we are really wanting to help the budget bride, the destination wedding couple, or just the couple that wants to save their money for something else. However lower prices does not mean suffering in quality. We are a husband/​wife team and we know from our own wedding the importance of high quality photos, and promise to deliver pictures you’ll be happy with for years to come.

History

Established in 2014.

We are a husband and wife team, we just had our own wedding in July, 2015. Going through the planning process ourselves recently, we can really relate to our brides and grooms and the desire to have amazing pictures capturing some of the most special moments of their lives. This unique position means that we make a really great team when taking pictures. Jason Chu is the primary photographer and Laurie is the second photographer/​assistant. We are both graduate students studying astronomy but Jason developed a strong passion for photography over the years. Some of his friends and colleagues began asking him for him to do some photography for them and in 2014 he was asked to photograph his first wedding. It was such an enjoyable experience he decided he wanted to continue to pursue photography as a business. Over time Jason taught Laurie a lot of photography and she easily became a great team member.

Business Owner

I am the founder of Jason Chu Photography. When I was younger my dad suggested I take a photography class at the community college nearby, it was fun but nothing I thought much about. In 2009 I went on a trip to China with my family and decided to purchase my first DSLR camera. After that I was completely hooked. I started out doing photography of landscapes, and I was constantly inspired by other work that pushed me to learn more and more technical skills. I am currently a graduate student pursuing a PhD in astronomy and that led to a lot of astro-​photography. After investing in many great lenses and more cameras, some of my colleagues started asking if I could do family photos, engagement sessions, and weddings. I put much effort into learning new skills for this different type of photography and discovered that I really enjoy it. I love to capture the emotion and love between families and friends, and use all my previous background to make pictures beautiful!
