Jamba Banana Man 5K Chase

Who is crazy enough to run a 5k in costumes? This family is! Well I thought we were gonna walk so I wore my boots. But my kids were so proud of their costumes that they decided to run it. Running in a cape is a challenge. My middle son had his arms up almost the whole time while I tried my best to hold my cape to my body.
The Deets:
This 5 K happens at Ala Moana Beach Park.
Participants chase bananas and a strawberry around. They are Hawaii’s own KHON news anchors and they bring a lot of enthusiasm to the crowd. Especially Kelly, she was pumped from beginning to end.
There are awesome prizes to be won. I can’t believe how generous Jamba Juice is.
1^st Place winners get Jamba Juice for a WHOLE YEAR.
2^nd Place gets 26 Jamba Juice coupons.
3^rd Place gets 12 coupons.
Not just for 3 people… For each age division. There is a male and a woman division.
Each participant got a t-​shirt and a medal.
Keiki Run:
After the 5K my kids still had the energy to run the keiki run. The keiki run is 500 meters.
This Year:
They had a handful of different activities to enjoy such as face painting, photo booth, keiki prints, bounce house, the Unilocal booth, and more.
Costume contest: Alaska airlines gave a trip for 2 to anywhere they fly.
We tried our luck at the costume contest, we placed 2^nd. Even though we didn’t win the grand prize it was well worth it. My kids had so much fun wearing their costumes during the race. They enjoyed hearing their fruit being cheered on as we ran. I know this memory will forever be etched in their minds.

Have you noticed what my morning was like listening in the car? Bouncers!
At the event they had 2 super fun Bouncers! One had a square jumping part that we normally see and it had a slide attached to it and the other was just a slide. Super Superduoper fun for keiki!
More interesting to others– it was not that crowded… Some people finished their races and then left so it was easy going all around for those that stayed to do some more activities like…

Stop in Alaska Airlines to try to win a prize like pretzels or a toy hat.

The Jamba teams had booths set up to hand out bananas, small tiny smoothies and some prizes. Yeah!!! Super Fun!
There was a MC host that played music and tried to entertain the crowds but was largely ignored except for a few listeners. He told us all we needed to know though.
Well worth it for keiki to join in the fun next year.
My 2 loved their shirts so much that they wanted to wear it the next day and they won 2 Jamba cards so the following day we went to get them Dragon Fruit smoothies that they were dieing to have and talking about so much and got to have them and ‘pay’ themselves all by themselves so they were soooo happy about that and were able to show the Jamba workers off their shirts for the race! So Fun!

This is an awesome run with awesome organizers with awesome runners. A great family oriented and very ‘ohana kind of run I would say. Thanks to Unilocal Hawaii this year (2016) and I guess there participation in their sponsorship of this run, I was able to get some race slots for the bae and I to do it. I always wanted to do this run and see how it was and it is pretty cool. First off, it is pretty darn early for a run for a 5K. But sometimes, you just got to do it especially for the keiki. There is also a keiki run which starts a little later after the regular 5K run. The run is held at Magic Island and the course runs through the whole Ala Moana Beach park. It starts at 7AM. Parking is pretty crazy during around that early morning race time. The run itself is organized and facilitated by Jamba Juice Hawaii where they promote health and wellness through their products like healthy fruits and smoothies and stuff like that. They have several people in fruit costumes, primarily in bananas and they run around and supposedly you chase them throughout the course. There are other people who dress up too and there are costume contests for these kinds of things whick make it fun for everyone as a whole. After the run you get a nice banana man chase medal. You also get a cool shirt for the event too. After the run, there are many volunteers that will be there to hand out medals and give out water. Everyone gets free Jamba Juice after but the line for that is extremely long. I was checking out other booths too like Unilocal,Jamba prize booth, Alaska Airlines, photo booth, etc. By the time, I wanted to get a smoothie they ran out… unfortunately. Anyways, during the post-​race festivities they award the race winners of different categories along with other types of fun, music, and good vibe times kinds of stuff. If you are looking for a nice fun short run, chase some bananas at Jamba Juice’s Banana Man chase!

Great event for a lot of different reasons… benefits Hawaii Speed and Quickness, fosters community development, and helps you get your butt out and about. I ran other 5K runs before but I have to say this was well organized and very enjoyable around Ala Moan Beach Park. Even if you’re not a runner, the event organizers were very accomodating to everyone who was there… a great time for the entire family with shows, contests, and of course icy cold Jamba smoothies after a nice run around the park. Thank you Jamba for sponsoring an awesome event!

This is a well, organized family fun event.
Jamba offers a year of free smoothies to the first male and female finisher in each age category, categories are every 5 years between 12 – 80.
After the race, bananas and smoothies were waiting for everyone.
T-​shirts and medals were given out to all finishers but they did run out of medals for the keiki race and ask adults to donate their medals back to the kids, which we both did after we took a picture with the medals.
Plenty of free parking all around Ala Moana Beach Park.
It was a truly great morning, so lucky we live HI!
