Specialties

We specialize in Hawaii-Grown and Hawaii made gifts: Roasted Mac Nuts, Chocolate covered Macadamia Nuts and Macadamia Nut Popcorn Crunch are our specialties. Macadamia Nuts come from our own orchards on the Big Island of Hawaii. Our products are made right down the street at our candy factory. Also available are unique Hawaii gourmet food products such as Choco Mochi, Kona Coffee, and Tropical Dried Fruits and Jams. The Factory store is located conveniently near the airport. Open 7 days a week! Free parking in our private lot. Visit often since our product mix changes depending on what is being freshly made at the factory. Aloha!

History

Established in 1986.

Established in Hawaii almost 30 years ago.

Originally started as Maui’s Best Gift Shop in Maui, by Dr. Michael Purdy and his wife Gwendolyn. When they first opened, they hand made macadamia nut chocolates and gourmet caramel popcorn in the back of the store at night. From this, the Island Princess brand was born. Within a few years, their products became so popular, Mike and Gwen moved their business to Honolulu where they built a chocolate enrobing line and installed kettles to make caramel toffee coated popcorn. Currently Island Princess sells product throughout Hawaii and around the world.

Meet the Business Owner

Michael P.

Business Owner

Mike and Gwen Purdy created Island Princess almost 30 years ago. For those who remember «MAUI’S BEST» store in Maui, that was their retail store featuring the Island’s unique handmade crafts and foods. Mike was a practicing dentist by day and made chocolates for the store by night!

Eventually, the business grew so much they moved to Honolulu to start their own candy making kitchens. Mike gave up his career as a dentist and ran Island Princess full time. In the late 90’s they purchased a Macadamia Nut Orchard in Keaau, on the Hawaii Island, to have their own mac nut supply and control the quality.

Mike and Gwen work everyday at the company, and not always in the office at a desk; often Mike will be «down on the production floor» or on a weekly trip to Hilo to work with the orchard staff. They are real «hands on» owners and workers. They encourage everyone to work together to make, sell, and deliver quality products.
