Hi! A Kamayan Pop-Up Dinner

I was excited to come here for some good pop up restaurant Filipino food. We got here at 5:30pm which is the time it started. We were told to hang out at the bar. This turned out to be 30 – 40 minutes of waiting.
Finally we were seated and we started with a shrimp sinigang shooter. It had a nicely fried prawn with a shooter glass of sinigang. It was delicious and I wished there were more soup offered.
Next was a pomelo and mango salad served with shrimp chips. This is when service and the kitchen speed goes down hill…
We waited about 20 minutes for the next course. Come on, it was chopped up mangoes and pomelos with a dressing! It could have been made ahead of time and chilled. This dish was lackluster. Also, the waiter said there were more chips to be offered. After a 15 min wait we saw every other table get served more chips. They forgot about our table. When we asked again, the waiter said he was sorry that they ran out of chips. I call BS as there was another dinner at 8:30pm. How can you run out of chips if you have another dinner session?
Next we started to order off the ala carte menu. We got one of each… the lumpia, balut and adobo gizzards. The lumpia was yummy with the aioli sauce. The gizzards were tender and had good flavor. I did not try the balut… but my friend said it was good.
Another 20 – 30 minute wait between courses, and next up was the tako kinilaw, which was an octopus ceviche. It was yummy but again took too long to come out. We were starting to get bored… the menu said it had red pears in it… no red pears unless you count red onions as pears.
Another long wait and then there was the main dish — Inasal pork ribs. It was tasty and soft but seemed boiled more than grilled. There was no charred taste to it. The ribs came with red rice which was unique. Although I thought the rice was a bit soggy.
Finally (another 20 minute wait believe it or not), we got our ube cheesecake. The best dish of all of the menu. It was really yummy, but unfortunately it was already 8:30pm and we felt rushed to get out so they could start their next pop up group. I thought this was rude, as they were very unorganized with time and service. Why should we be shooed away and rushed during dessert when you took forever to serve the food?
At best, the food was ok. Certain dishes were outstanding but not all of them. Interesting experience though…
