This place was okay. There is a good variety of pupus. I had the ahi poke… wasn’t that great that I would order again. Fried saimin was a little salty for me. I ordered the prime rib for dinner which was good. Service was good though!

prop up the BAR. I met two fellow Unilocalers, one of whom is a self-proclaimed BARfly, for some drinks and pupus recently. We met on a Monday, and I was beyond thrilled when this place was suggested, as its close to home and I didn’t want to drive too far… Mondays are always so busy for me at work. LOCATION: The business/warehouse area of Mapunapuna. Parking available in the lot fronting the restaurant and adjacent areas. PARKING: There is a lot/area directly in front of the restaurant. When I arrived this area was full and so I looked for an empty space. My advice to others is to pay attention where you park(if not in front of the restaurant) as some spaces are designated for neighboring businesses, while other areas/spaces are for«customers». I was unsure of where to park initially as its not clearly marked if specific spaces are for certain businesses. I chose to park in a space for«customers» as I was a customer for a business in that immediate area. Needless to say, my car was still parked in the same spot when I returned. SETTING: The restaurant has two areas: BAR and dine-in restaurant. Thankfully, one our party had arrived early and secured a booth. The restaurant has a rustic look and feel, but has a very cozy and welcoming atmosphere as well. FOOD /DRINK: Our BARfly friend ordered a bottle of red for the table. Great way to start the evening. While we looked over the menu, we also snacked on some popcorn that was brought to the table by our server. Collectively, we shared(family style) the nachos, 10 piece buffalo wings(sauce on the side), poke, and edamame. I would say I was definitely satisfied with the quality and portion sizes of all the appetizers we shared. The nachos portion was more than I expected, especially with all the heaps of toppings on the plate. I could say the same about the edamame too, the serving was definitely more than other bars/restaurants in town. Overall, we enjoyed our food, drinks, and the good company. SERVICE: Very good. Our server was a friendly and polite girl. She was attentive and answered all our questions about the menu. She checked on us periodically throughout our meal and provided great customer service. BOTTOMLINE: BAR none a great place in Salt Lake/Moanalua to get food and drinks with friends. Be mindful of the parking situation. Cheers all!

Clam chowder was very tasty. The French dip and open faced roast beef were ok. Overall a decent experience.

The food there is the best! The waitresses are the best. The combo platter is the best deal in town. The food service cannot compare!!! This place is a no go for karaōke! The song are old and they still have laser discs. There is no way of knowing when your songs is next. The karaōke guy favors the regulars that go to sing at the bar.

Started coming here for one main reason… 3 Hawaiian Miles per dollar! Okay this bar/restaurants definitely has a lot of ups and definitely some downs. Lets start with the ups. Just in case you get bored and decide not to finish reading my review. First good thing is the PRIMERIB! It’s so consistent and delicious every time. Second good thing is their BBQRIBS! Tender fall off the bone meat with awesome sauce. 3rd Good thing is their SERVICE. I can honestly say that they are on it most of the time. The 4th good thing which is the best thing in my personal opinion(and I do mean that literally) is the ENVIRONMENT! This place has NFL Sunday ticket and it’s Raider Nation! WooHoo! But the overall environment is just okay. It is a little dim in there with a very wooden type of look. If this place is considered a dive then it’s an upscale dive. I only have two gripes about this place. First one is their pupus. It’s a little outdated in comparison to the standard in most bars now days; including the dives. Second, the beer selection is also outdated. I think they should add a few crafts to cater to the younger crowd like myself… Nah kidding, I ain’t that young but I do like having a good variety of beers to choose from. Other than that, I am still a big fan of this place and am a regular here. Mainly because they’re located in Mapunapuna which is close to home for me.

Needed a place to hang with friends and have dinner on a Sunday, and this was the perfect place. There was 9 of us and we were seated immediately, most of the group wanted to watch football, and the remainder of us wanted to watch the World Series, there was 2TV sets right at our table since we were seated against the wall. The restaurant was quite empty but started filling up real fast. We were lucky to had walked in when we did and with a large party, otherwise, we probably would have been seated in separate booths. My mister and I split the king cut prime rib, with red potatoes. Even with just half, I felt like I had way too much meat, started not feeling too well shortly after I tried to digest. I asked for it seared and prepared medium done, it was so good, and the au jus was great, not too salty. The red potatoes, was okay, not too salty either cooked perfectly, goes perfect with the prime rib. Nice«kick back» place, we stayed about 2 — 3 hours enjoying both games,(got loud at times) and not feeling rushed out.

Want to take someone to a place that looks like a setting out the old Hawaii 5 – 0? Take them here. It is retro in ambiance with no windows. Very dark and feels like 1976. I almost expect McGarrett or Dano to walk up to me in a suit and tie to talk to me. Seriously, this is my new hang out before games at Aloha Stadium. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who let us know that our reservation seating would be a little(only 5 minutes) late. I haven’t tried the menu beyond beer and the pupu platter: BBQ Ribs — Fall of the bone goodness Potato Skins — Just perfect with just enough cheese and sour cream Ahi Poke — Fresh and chilly Chicken Wings and Spring Roll — Fried crispy Portuguese Sausage & Green Beans — You have to feel like you are eating something healthy. Beans are cooked but still have some body and bite. The next time your out-of-town friends want to go somewhere local and don’t mean Alan Wongs or Roys, take them here. Henry Loui’s will likely not be featured on the Food Network but it give your friends an accurate tasting of local food.

Old bar with bar food. The food taste good but… Wow. We just watched the cook coming out of the bathroom wiping his hands on his apron. First, I hope it was just water. Second, wtf is he wearing his apron in the bathroom?

A late review on my first experience at this restaurant, my boyfriend & I decided to eat here for Fourth of July since I had it bookmarked for awhile. A friend had posted a food pic of prime rib once and ever since then I meant to stop by. Half of this place is a bar and apparently this place has been around for a long time so it’s not fine dining in the least but the food comes hot & there’s silverware, it’s a cool ambience if you’re open minded. I say if you’re going on a date with someone that wouldn’t mind having a few, it would be a good spot. I should’ve tried the prime rib but like I always do, I failed to try the signature dish. But I had a good experience with my scampi styled fish, veggies and brown rice. It was garlic-y like I like it and the serving was generous. My boyfriend also enjoyed his dish he had scallops & shrimp, everything was cooked perfectly. Oh yes and I remember our server, she was okay. Just doing the bare minimum to keep us content. I’ll probably be back to try the prime rib some day :)

Henry Loui’s is old school ! and it it’s GOOD old school ! It’s like stepping back into a time capcal. Hardly no one make butter cappers opakapaka like this place anymore. And the hamberger steak is old school. LOL And this place is around 35 years strong. It’s funny, I went with my friend from the restaurant industry and we were loving it. If you want to take a step back in time. Well this is the place to come. food and service was good. We’re coming back for the ribs next week !

Whattttt seriously, three stars??? Yeah okay, it’s not the cleanest restaurant, and it’s dark but this is seriously a hidden gem in the middle of honolulu! I’ve passed the signs for years, wondered what kind of food I’ve been missing out on, and finally my hubby decided to take me since he went with his ol’ shooting buds! I’ve been here twice — once for dinner and once for lunch. Lunch time for me that day I went was around 2 pm and NOT crowded. I think like maybe 5 tables were filled with a couple of people hanging out at the bar. It seemed like a family style restaurant because people knew each other. or at least talked like it… so they’re friendly! I got the hawaiian plate. For $ 18.95, you get two choices of either Kalua pig, lau lau, and I forget the other choice because I end up getting the first two. Stacked with AHIPOKE. yum. And either rice or poi. With haupia and some cut up onion. It’s delicious!!! So much that the second time I went, I had to get it again for dinner. Dinner time was crowded. Disclaimer though, it was the same day as the kick off season to UH. and yes, they have an awesome bar/pupu menu. I wanted to sample everything! But we just ended up getting the onion rings. I guess that means we have to go back again to go try their whole menu. It’s wide-ranging …sandwiches, saimin, salads, pastas, RIBS, AND combinations plates with market priced Alaskan king crab!!! My favorite. So I must go back.

Hidden jewel in an industrial type neighborhood. Came here for lunch as it sits right around the corner from where I was working. Apparently the people I work with come here all the time. It has a very unique eccentric vibe when you go in… neighborhood bar meets diner? Cool funky décor line the walls and the tables/seating look like they are out of the 70’s. It is very dark inside, but don’t let that dissuade you from going inside! The server was super friendly and attentive. We all actually ordered the Crab/Bacon/Avocado sandwich with fries and it was fantastic! REAL crab too. The fries were super delicious as well… totally unexpected when you see this place from the outside as well as inside. The menu had a ton of other stuff from hot entrée type meals to burgers and sandwiches. I will come back for sure.

Henry Loui’s is a hidden gem in Salt Lake. You would never know this place was here and that’s sad because it’s a really great restaurant. There is plenty of seating — both at the bar and the restaurant. The workers are really friendly and the food is good. I was able to try their buffet menu which had ribs, fish and prime rib as well. All of it was really good and would make me come back. Actually I did come back and had their french dip too. The owner of the bar is extremely friendly and can usually be found drinking and chatting with everyone at the bar. I would suggest stopping by and checking this place out, even if you’re not in the area.

An old school hangout in Mapunapuna near 99 Ranch. The restaurant is very dark so it took some time for our eyes to adjust. On one side of the restaurant there are booths & tables. On the bar side there are a few booths & tables where you can sing Karaōke. The food wasn’t too bad. There was a Hawaiian plate that had kalua pig, poke, lau lau, haupia & either poi or rice for about $ 19. Other people in my party ordered taco salad, scallops & King crab, prime rib & crab, hamburger steak, New York steak & chicken piccata. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Don’t forget your coupon in the dining out section!

One of my sisters was in town this past week to «help» with the recovery of my eldest sister and brother-in-law because of their recent surgeries. She planned to return home to Maui today so for her pre-flight meal, she asked us to recommend a restaurant near the airport. We chose to meet them for lunch at Henry Loui’s. Henry Loui was a renown local chef and entrepreneur who owned and operated this location for decades. I used to see his ads that advertised«The best suckin’ ribs in Hawaii». And THAT they were and are! Chef Loui had passed away and the restaurant was bought out and continued its family-style cuisine and service. I don’t know how to «classify» the cuisine(s) that is served here… suffice to say, it’s International with«Kanak Attack» touches. The restaurant is divided into two distinct sections.1– sports bar and 2– restaurant with«old school» booths. There aren’t any windows and when you enter, your eyes have to take a few seconds to adjust to the dimness. Whichever side that you chose, you’ll be met by and treated to friendly and prompt service. So back to my sister’s pre-flight meal… since it was lunch, we didn’t want to stuff ourselves(as we normally, do) because we had some errands to run after lunch. Our server, Ann, was jovial and very prompt in bringing us beverages, setting out the menus and reciting the daily specials. — My sister chose the crabmeat BLT which was packed with sweet cooked crab sandwiched between lightly toasted wheat bread with a heaping helping of sliced tomatoes, avocado, bacon and lettuce. The sandwich was so stuffed that she had to smoosh it down just to take a bite. She started chomping into the sandwich before I could even take a picture! — My eldest sister and I ordered the Seafood Cobb Salad. It was a behemoth of a salad! It was literally a pile of cooked scallops, Bay shrimp, crab, hard-cooked eggs, crumbled blue cheese, bacon and tomatoes atop crisp iceberg lettuce. Ann was nice to provide us, each, with a small side dish of additional blue cheese dressing. Weight Watchers, please look away! — Both of the men(my husband and brother-in-law) chose the Teriyaki Shortribs. Their meals started with a generous side salad. Then, their plate lunch consisted of 4 Teriyaki marinated Flanken-style shortribs with steamed white rice and mixed vegetables. Both guys raved about the flavor and tenderness of the ribs as the cleaned their plates down to the white! Meanwhile, Ann was buzzing around waiting on the other patrons but always made routine checks with us. She maintained her smile and efficiency throughout our time in here. There weren’t any busboys to help out, but, she still managed to take and deliver our food and beverage orders and clear our table while providing friendly service. We’ll be back for dinner soon to get a hold of those«Best Suckin’ Ribs in Hawaii»!! #325

Went for lunch today with a friend and split the BB ribs & French Dip Sandwich. Both were Stellar if not the best on the Island. I have no clue what the low reviews are about but our experience was very good for lunch. Looking forward to returning to try other menu items.

Henri Loui’s is located in an industrial area and behind another building so most who go for dinner know exactly where they want to go. They are open for lunch and have an active bar section with karaōke but I only go for dinner. Parking is available at dinner time because the surrounding stores have closed by then. The service is usually good but the atmosphere can get loud either when a University of Hawaii sporting event is playing on TV or when the karaōke singers really get into it. They claim to have the«best suckin’ ribs» but I always order the Hawaiian plate. Many local restaurants serve Hawaiian food only on Fridays but Henri Loui’s offers it every day. It’s gone up in price several dollars over the past couple of years but is still reasonable at $ 19. It comes with rice or poi, ahi poke(really good), haupia, onions(used to be pickled but last time was plain sliced), and your choice of two of laulau, kalua pig, and short ribs. I always order the laulau and kalua pig since I just don’t see how kalbi relates to a Hawaiian plate. If in the mood, I order poi(probably a major contributor to the price increases), which has always been fresh. That is my preference but some prefer sour. It’s a lot of food so I never bother with appetizers or dessert.

So I do trust my bro with food choices, but when he said he wanted to eat here, I was like… really? He just smiled and said…“Don’t worry… you will like it”. Ok…what’s the worst that can happen right? So we went to the restaurant… and it is located in kind of an industrial area… and I don’t recall seeing any windows on the outside. Yeah… I make it a rule not to eat at restaurants with no windows…(it’s scary… just let your mind run wild and you will figure it out…) Anyway…we go inside and it is a little dark, but once my eyes adjust… you can tell it is very large inside. We were seated and I looked around… kind of a funky old school place, with tvs to watch sports. It has a comfortable feel to it. The waitress was super nice. We ordered food and it came pretty fast. Baby back ribs So I was really surprised… blown away even. The ribs were crazy tender. My bro picked up his ribs and they fell back onto his plate and he was left holding only the bone… thats how soft the ribs were. The flavor was really unique as well… I was expecting regular bbq sauce, but it actually had a teriyaki bbq sauce on it that was really good. corn chowder I opted for the corn chowder instead of the salad and it was good. It wasn’t overcome with tears of joy… but I would get it again. Sides My fries and veggies were good, but really took a back seat to the ribs. I will say that the fries were on the crispier side, which I am a fan of. Prime rib My wife had the prime rib. I tried it and it was good, but the ribs were definitely better. I will be back for sure… even if though there aren’t windows…
