History

Established in 1973.

Hawaiian Graphics was established in 1973 as a commercial art supply store including graphic services, hence the name Hawaiian Graphics Corporation. With the changes in the commercial art industry through the 80’s & 90’s, our business changed along with it. In 1994, we consolidated our business and refocused to become Hawaii’s Most Complete Art Supply Store. We are committed to offering a great selection of Art Materials to meet the needs of today’s artists, students, hobbyists and crafters and looking forward to serving our customers for years to come.

Florence has been with Hawaiian Graphics since 1989, working part-​time as a UH Art student. Graduating UH with a BFA & MFA in Painting and working her way up to General Manager, she knows about art supplies and the art supply business.

I can’t say that I am regular at Hawaiian Graphics, but every time I have gone has been a great experience!
The store is large and has everything you would want to find in an art store. I always go to grab a few paint pens here and there. I like to paint my surfboards or the occasional canvas. They always have a full stock of pens on display for me to browse and find exactly what I am looking for.
The staff is very welcoming and friendly. They always make sure I am attended to and are being helped. They also will answer any question you might have.
I highly recommend this store for every art need. Don’t look anywhere else!

We had an amazing experience with Florence and her generous team at Hawaiian Graphics! A teen from Make-​A-​Wish Hawaii wished to paint on the beach. Florence gave our group advice on which paints would work best, the type of canvas and the extra items to make it all work.
Everything worked out great and the Wish was granted.

What a great store! I can’t believe I waited 8 months before I went here! If you are an artist, professional or amateur, you will love this place! They have stuff I’ve never seen before. The prices are very competitive even with some online prices. The staff is super friendly and very helpful!

Impressive art store! When I went in earlier this week, they had a massive sale. I purchased a hard back leather bound sketch book, two pens & a watercolor pencil set all for $ 20! Art supplies can get really pricy and usually all these items combined should take me well over $ 50, but I definitely got a bargain for some good quality supplies. Whenever I have school projects, I’m definitely headed here. Too bad I didn’t have my student ID card with me, my discount would’ve been even more awesome!
Also, the Asian guy who rang me up was super nice! :)

The other day, we wandered into Hawaiian Graphics focused on getting a couple of 3/​8″ slant-​tip paint brushes that we plan to use to complete a home improvement project. As soon as we stepped through the door, we both had flashbacks to our University of Hawaii student days. I often accompanied my husband into this shop when he needed art supplies for constructing some of his projects. He meandered down the aisles like he was in a hardware store or reminiscing his school days while I went straight to the brushes, made the selections based upon our need and waited patiently at the cashier’s counter.
The cashier was very friendly and helpful as he inquired if we had any promotional discounts to redeem. He KINDLY mentioned student and Military then, senior discounts. We found that we qualified for discounts! The prices might be «steep» for students but, discounts help! Even with seemingly high prices, this store has «everything» for the amateur or professional artist. They carry good to high quality graphic art supplies in one shop that makes the prices worth it.

Huge selection! I’ve only been here once, but it was a pleasant experience. Wasn’t really helped out when looking around, but I knew exactly what I needed. I had a bit of time to explore and ended up getting a few extra things. Probably would’ve bought more if I knew about the student discount.
Guy on the register, SUPER FRIENDLY. Told me about their student discount during checkout, which was awesome. Told him how I’d just moved to Oahu from Kauai and that I didn’t know where to buy Art supplies, and he prompted me to sign up for their membership. If you live on Oahu I definitely recommend signing up because you do get discounts and you’re kept informed on their sales.
Overall, things are a little steep even with the student discount. But I’m not disappointed by quality. I’m still using the paintbrushes I bought months ago and they’re going strong! Will probably be returning soon because I’m running out of paint…
If you care about quality and supporting a local business, you won’t be disappointed shopping here.

STUDENT DISCOUNT! Well, a 10% student discount! Whatever helps a poor college kid out, works for me!
Hawaiian Graphics is pretty much the only art supplies store aside from Ben Franklin. Even Ben Franklin can’t be compared to Hawaiian Graphics because BF specializes in more crafty things while HG focuses on art supplies like pens, brushes, paints, inks, etc.
Art supplies are pretty expensive regardless of where you buy them, but I think HG tries to keep things priced reasonably, and they have sales every now and then too.
The service is pretty hit or miss; one girl who helped me made me feel like I was asking for the moon when I asked for some help. On the other hand, the older man at the cash register was really nice.
The store front is pretty easy to miss on beretania, but try your hardest to spot a blue sign across from Champions malasadas. There is a small parking lot infront of the store, and when I’ve gone, I haven’t had any trouble finding parking.

Bad name– I bypassed it over and over when I was looking for art stores because it sounds like a screen printing shop or a graphic design firm, but when I FINALLY checked it out I was really happy. They have canvases of all sizes, tons of paints, wood block art media, mats, paper, easels, pencils, almost everything a happy little artist could wish for.
They also offer a membership program that saves you a lot of money if you plan on shopping there regularly.
I’m glad I found this place. If you are looking for art supplies I highly recommend it.

Recently came in for the first time to buy something for an artist friend. The selection was is good and the prices are competitive. The sales help was really friendly and helpful. It’s pretty cool that they offer classes and demos too. I would definitely come back!
HG is located on the makai side of Beretania a half block ‘ewa of McCully, next to the Kapiolani medical office building. Free, abundant parking – how refreshing!

Words could not express the joy I had when I came across this store! As a freelancer with no supplies on deck, I was able to get what I needed. I do agree that the prices were slightly steep for the supplies, but I’ve seen worse back at home. After all, it is mostly about the quality that matters in the pricing, so there’s nothing negative to say on that part atm! I’ve seen the mat boards, easels, and types of paper here, so I know it’s the place for the art supplies.
I had to give props for one of the sales associate/​maybe the owner (?) for dealing with me, because I picked up a wrong item that I thought was on sale but turned out it was for a different price. We were able to resolve the issue with no problem at all, and she was patient with me while I continue to look around the store before purchasing the items.
If you have a valid school ID (whether it is local or outside of Hawaii), you will get a 10% off discount. It’s pretty much what it’s like with Blick’s, only this one is a local store. I’m just happy that there’s an art supplies store nearby where I stayed!

Is everyone who works here high? Well, art supplies, artists.. .yeah, probably.
I have to call here frequently to check on prices for supplies. Every time I call I say a little silent prayer that someone competent and coherent will answer the phone.
Alas, only once have I spoken with someone who was efficient and was able to quickly give me the information I needed. I wish I would have gotten his name.
The other times I have called, there just seems to be a lack of comprehension on the other end of the line. Or total rudeness. It sucks because they’re the only comprehensive art supply place in town so I guess they can get away with it.
So yeah, if you’re looking for art supplies, just go to the store — they have just about everything. But you’ll hafta shell out for it, the prices are a little high.
The parking lot is crummy.
And don’t call them on the telephone. Seriously.

I enjoy frequenting this store. If you’re just starting out or have even a slight interest, it’s not impossible to find what you’re looking for here because they have a wide variety of supplies for the common artist. Now if you were going off the wall to find some really unique items, you might wanna try the industrial park.
Within walking distance from the Local University, it’s easily accessible to art students. If you show a valid school ID from the university or community college, you get a reasonable discount (10%). Even better, when you sign up for a 5-​year membership (free of charge), you get a 20% discount. I believe the only requirement is that you must purchase, or have a total sales purchase of $ 20. Still a great deal!
The store occupies two floors. The top floor carries some unique paper types, while the bottom had more of the general art supplies. Staff usually come in pairs (because you don’t normally see a bunch of people there at one time), but they’re really helpful and can answer any question you have.
If there’s any criticism, it would be that the supplies are pretty pricey. THAT’s not to say they’re not worth the purchase, because they are! I guess you could say they provide quality product (which completely negates my critique). Rightfully so that I can’t find any negatives with the store.
One Word: Awesome-​sauce!

It has been a while since I have bought paint… and the few times I have since I moved to Hawaii I ordered off of eBay or reluctantly purchased from my neighborhood Ben Franklin’s Crafts…
As a Hanukkah gift for my sister I decided to make her a painting for her new home. I couldn’t come to terms with spending close to double for a tube of paint. So I took to the internet and Unilocal and looked for another local store. Hawaiian Graphics popped up and seemed to be just what I was looking for.
Easy to get to — Heading N on McCully turn left on S. Beretania (at the KFC) and its the second parking lot on the left. Look for blue!
I didn’t have a lot of time to look around, but the first thing I saw when I walked in the door was 12×12 gallery wrapped canvases, in a 2 pack, at 75% off! WOOOOWEEEE! I had bought 10×10 single canvases at Ben Franklins the week before for $ 12 a pop and these were 2″ bigger and $ 7.75 for TWO! SOLD! I bought 10 canvases and went for paint!
The first floor is all paint materials… canvases, sketchbooks, acrylics, oils, watercolors… There are a few other floors — with framining materials, and other goodies, but I didn’t make it up there. I picked up the matierlas I needed and headed to the checkout. They offered me a membership — with 20% every purchase over $ 15 — good for FIVE years (Ben Franklins member ship is good for one year and I think it is only 10−15% off).
I am in love.

Stayed here for 20 hours for a Copics certification class. Owner Flo is super nice and helpful. She’s very knowledgeable and I had the pleasure of working with an airbrush system with her in class. This class was put on by Copic so hopefully when they have classes in the islands again, they’ll use Hawaiian Graphics as a venue.
There are TONS of material and supplies in this store, and they don’t waste time and space on the cheap stuff. My mediums: Copic markers (they carry Ciaos and wides too, which I haven’t seen in person until this day!), manga paper, dyes and inks. There was also helpful books that I bought too. I saw customers coming in to buy paints, so if you’re into that, it might be a good place to look. And they’ve got ATG refills! Score!
They aren’t open on Sundays, so keep that in mind if you work a regular 9 – 5.

Called here to check if they still carried something that I used to buy from them, I’m not going to bother next time. The employee that answered the phone was really rude. He kept on cutting me off while I was trying to explain to him what it was that I was looking for. After telling me that they didnt carry the product anymore he tried to rush me off the phone as I asked about another product that I thought might work for the job I was doing. I repeatedly was told «we dont carry that» even before I told him what I was looking for. I will never call or go to the store again, I’d rather buy online and have to wait for it to be shipped than go down there.
