Hawaii Ash Scatterings

Experiencing the death of one’s parents is traumatic enough without having to deal with all the aftermath. However, when I called Captain Ken to inquire about his ash scattering services, he was so very empathetic and kind. I knew his business was the right one immediately! And, I was right. From the very clean and spacious boat, to the Captain on board, to the very respectful manner in which we were all treated. This is the way to send off your loved ones in a wonderful, scenic, peaceful and gentle manner. Thank you for providing such a wonderful service. Oh, and thank you for the Certificates with the coordinates of Mom and Dad’s ashes… that was another beautiful surprise!

Capt. Ken greeted us wearing a kukui nut lei and a warm smile. The Honor Guard Service and scattering of our loved ones ashes was done with care and Aloha. We boarded the 50′ Motor Catamaran the Haleiwa Queen. The vessel was new, clean, lots of room to move around and comfortable. The speakers aboard had Bluetooth access and we were able to play our loved ones favorite tunes as we journeyed out to sea. Capt. Ken and crew were top notch!

We scattered my husband’s ashes off of Lahaina, HI on the Island of Maui on August 11^th. It was a beautiful late afternoon and a memorable time. Captain Jason and his crew member were very gracious to us. They were willing to video tape the service using my IPhone. The Hawaiian minister was personable and did a good job with the service. It is nice to have the certificate that shows the location where my husband’s ashes rests at sea. A couple of recommendations from an administrative end: (1) If you are requesting information about a loved one handwritten then someone should type it up for the minister so that it easier for him to read. It would have been easier and more professional if you had provided a PDF that could be typed into so that the information could have been easier to fill out and read. (2) Make it clearer that the women who does the P’uolo Urn and the Lei’s brings them to her work place and not her home for pick up. It doesn’t make sense to show her address on any of the driving instructions. This will also help in understanding how to set up the pickup. Thank you.

The ash scattering ceremony of my Brother was very touching. Captain Ken was incredibly kind and the Hawaiian Priest that performed the service was exceptional.

How often does everything go perfectly, as it did with the scattering of my wife and daughter recently. Hawaii Ash Scattering, with the very capable Captain Ken at the helm, provided the perfect service, with the utmost in professional presentation and Ohana dignity. Nothing less than a CLASS ACT in the extreme. We will always remember, with fondness, the manner that we laid to rest two of our beloved family members. ABSOLUTELY ABOVE EXPECTATIONS. Captain Ken and his crew showed great sensitivity and thoughtfulness throughout the planning and accomplishing of the event to scatter our friend Lee’s ashes in the beautiful waters off Honolulu. Especially surprising was the ease with which Lee’s frail 82 year old brother was able to board the catamaran for the 25 minute sail to the designation spot. The Hawaiian Priest chose the perfect words to bring closure to our friend’s life. We were very grateful for that. It was a beautiful experience and one befitting our friend’s life. The slow sail back to the dock at sunset gave us time to reflect on Lee’s wonderful life. We couldn’t give higher praise to Captain Ken and the people at Hawaii Ash Scatterings.

My father passed away in April of this year. This year was to be he and my mothers 50^th Wedding Anniversary and they had planned to celebrate their milestone in Hawai’i, a place they both loved so much. After his passing, my mother wanted to keep her promise to him and be in Hawai’i with him on their anniversary.
While doing research for our trip, I came across Hawaii Ash Scatterings. My initial impression was that it sounded like a nice service but that it was pricey for just my mother and I. I am very glad we went with this service. They were very professional but not stiff. Very respectful and cognizant of how tough this experience can be. Capt. Ken was great and was always accessible.
I do have to say that this was an amazing final farewell to my father. I gave it 4 stars only because of the cost but it if you are looking to have a loved ones ashes scattered in HI, Hawaii Ash Scatterings is the way to go. Thank you to Capt. Ken and all of his staff!

I wanted to express the gratitude from me and my family for the great experience we had on April 19 at the memorial service for our parents. The crew was helpful and respectful. The pastor did a wonderful job of tying together their lives, their beliefs and the traditions of the Hawaiian culture. It is exactly what they would have wanted. As difficult as it was to have them both pass on the same day, this was a perfect way to honor them and beautifully done by your folks. Thank you so much.

Thank you for making something so difficult, something to remember. I dreaded «scattering» the ashes, not the way I wanted to remember my wonderful husband. The ti-​leaf urn was perfect. The sunset sail beautiful, Pastor Allen was just the right touch with his kind words and ukulele. The humpback whales and green flash sunset were perks we didn’t expect.

What a beautiful tribute to my Husband James, who was born and raised in Honolulu and is now home where he always wanted to be. My experience with Hawaii Ash Scatterings were very different from the previous review and I feel obliged to share it. I attended my godfather’s ash scattering ceremony held by Captain Ken this January. Never before have I experienced such a beautiful way to say goodbye to someone loved. The flowers we strewed lined the ocean in preparation for the ashes. The music reminded us of the love we shared for him and also of his current peacefulness. The doves flew out and joined each other in flight. Everything was perfectly planned. Captain Ken even had some natural oils to guard me from seasickness. Thanks for much for everything! I’m sure my godfather was there with us and happy that we were able to honor his life in such a way!

What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL tribute to our beloved mother! In all of our mother’s challenges throughout her life, she remained an honorable mother for her sacrifices. Captain Ken conveyed this in such a meaningful way that allowed my siblings to remember her and memorialize her the way she deserved. The certificate is a gorgeous memento.

When my mother died, I had a very stressful time dealing with my mother’s unfinished business, I barely had time to think about her final arrangements but one visit to your web site Captain Ken and I was thoroughly relieved! I found all the information I needed and I paid online which was extremely convenient!
I couldn’t have asked for a better option for her final destination. Captain Ken made everything run so smoothly and offered us every preference we requested.

Oh, Captain Ken. How your ash scattering of our Dad embodied the phrase, ‘the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.’ We hired you to gently place Dad to rest offshore while we watched from the beach — a service you claimed to be very familiar with. But Captain Ken, you failed to secure the box of ashes to your kayak, and it flew off as you attempted to poorly launch from shore. The ashes were dumped and tumbled unceremoniously in the surf and sand while we watched in horror.
And your response, Captain? «Well, at least he made it into the water.»
Captain Ken was not prepared to give Dad the dignified send off we expected and planned.
We were too shocked to say much at the time. Within a few weeks though, we contacted Captain Ken to tell him of our disappointment, and to express that we felt he had not followed through on his end of the service and ask for a partial refund. He did not respond. So a few weeks after that, we wrote again. And here we are, weeks later, with still not a peep from him.
Our advice? Take your time, money, and dignity elsewhere.
