We specialize in «local style» smoked meats and fishes using the invasive strawberry guava wood, also know as waiawi, to smoke our products.
History
Established in 2011.
The original recipe came from my brother in-law and his father on Kauai. I was looking to start a business after teaching high school for ten years and asked him if I could use his recipe. He gave me the green light so I quit teaching and started Guava Smoked. We’ve been doing the local Farmers’ Markets for two and a half years now, and just got our first brick and mortar this past November ’13, in the heart of Kalihi.

Business Owner
Born and raised in Kapahulu, Oahu. I was in the Air Force stationed in Florida for four years, fixing helicopters. I moved to San Francisco to work for United Airlines as a mechanic for 9 years. Got my bachelors in Industrial Education at SF State University. Moved home in 1999, got my teaching certificate from UH Manoa. Traveled around the world for nine months. Started teaching at Kaimuki HS in 2001, taught graphics till 2011. Started Guava Smoked in July 2011.
