The whole family enjoys eating here. It’s easier and faster to order on the tablet than to wait for someone to take our order. The kids like the way the food comes to us in the race car. Food is okay. It’s almost always crowded and the wait time here for us has been anywhere between 15 minutes and 50 minutes.

Genki is one of my favorite quick fix sushi spots. Definitely a great go to whenever I’m in the area. The only thing that’s unfortunate about this location is that it’s a really small sized Genki. I came here with my dad and we ordered the best stuff on the menu which was the garlic ebi, garlic salmon, and the garlic ahi. Yes… I love garlic… a lot. The little race car thing is a fun thing to deal with. Also PROTIP: You can actually take OFF the screens and bring it down to use. I was getting tired of looking and didn’t know you could and then saw someone do it and thought, OHhhhhhhh. lol The only complaint I had was that I ordered baked mussels and was waiting FOREVERFORIT so I had to call a server, and then they told me that they’re out. Like okay thanks for the heads up, it could’ve been put on the screen that they’re out of it so I wasn’t waiting for nothing.

Nice place to sample multiple sushi dishes, although there is always long wait. Love their tablets used for ordering dishes. Didn’t really care for the make cashier. Somehow, he does not make customers feel comfortable. He will be better served go back to the kitchen and wash the dishes vice greeting customers, totally unsuitable.

Decided to come here one day with my parents because it was close and we wanted some sushi… When we walked in the server asked«how many» like he was impatient with us. And then gave us a ticket and told us «wait outside». When they finally called our number, we walked back in and the same server asked us again«how many»? He didn’t recognize us, and he asked in the same impatient manner. I get that they are busy and seem to be understaffed– though there were about five servers, in a small restaurant plus the sushi comes to us by itself… The food quality is decent, I’m not expecting super fresh … But the prices did go up and if I’m paying $ 60 for 3 people, I would expect the fish to be fresher than what it is there. For $ 60 I might as well have 6 bowls at ahi & vegetable or go elsewhere. The one thing that bothered me the most was the one at the cash register. While we were paying, she printed out the receipt for a signature, smacked it down on the table and left to do something else. She didn’t mention any«I’ll be right back» she just left. I waited for her to come back to give me my receipt. Then she came back and took the signed receipt and didn’t say thank you. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve had in a restaurant in terms of service.

I like this location better than the one at Kapahulu. A lot cleaner and brighter inside. Although there’s always a wait, it’s located right in Ala Moana so you can shop/walk around to kill time. They should have more sushi places with a conveyor belt service!

When I’m in the mood for sushi, don’t have much time, just want something decent but not over the top, Genki is our«goto» spot. Like, walking around Ala Moana, getting hungry we spot it and goto it. It’s really that simple really. Anyway, service here isn’t consistent but you don’t need that much attention. Once you’re seated they’ll ask for your drink order. After that, you’re on your own. The kewl thing is each seat at the counter, where we like to sit, has a touch screen pad where you can peruse the selections, place your order and wait for it to be delivered by bullet train. Fascinating really. I don’t get too many things off the conveyor belt because, like others have said, you don’t know how long it has been sitting there. It could have dried out by then. You don’t know how many bombing runs the flies have had on it. If I notice it was just put out there, like it was not there before when I sat down, then I may pick it up. However, most of the items I do get do not appear on the conveyor belt anyway. Soft shell crab is my fave here and a must order for me. Do love the spicy ahi and ahi skin too. The bowls are good too. And, I do like the coke here. Not sure why yet, but it seems to be … better. Moving on… Yeah, that’s my review.

I stopped in for lunch recently, after noticing this place on my way out of Sephora. Genki is a Honolulu chain and serves good/decent sushi(price points are $ 2 – 6 per dish) in a novel way. You order from a screen at the sushi bar or table, and your food is delivered to you via a toy bullet train that is fun to watch whizzing back and forth. You can also grab plates from the revolving belt, but, as others have pointed out, it’s not obvious how long they’ve been sitting out. Still, you’ll get a small discount for grabbing pre-made sushi on the belt versus ordering it fresh. Once you finish up, you can order more, or you can press a button and a waitress will bring your check to you. All in all, Genki is a fun environment for a quick and affordable sushi lunch.

I’m not much of a sushi eater so I don’t come here quite often but my boyfriend was craving it so we had to swing by! I’m not particularly disappointed nor am I pleased with my visit here. I came in at around 7:30 on a Sunday & they close at 9. The girls here are nice, but show slight attitude except for a girl I believe her name is Ashley. Ashley was the only waitress here tonight who seemed to really care about the customers. Granted it was towards their closing time & working in retail stores in the past, I can certainly agree that when it hits the last hour or so of your shift, you’ll do anything possible to just have the rest of your time fly on by. None of them were rude but it always makes me a little uncomfortable & irritated when I ask for something & they don’t acknowledge what I asked & just walk away to get it. Ending of the night, probably worked all day & had a few difficult customers, I don’t blame them. BUT, when I shoot you a smile it’d be nice as the employee to shoot me one back! Every single time I looked up & made eye contact with an employee(excluding Ashley) they had this quite sour look on their face like they just wanted to leave. I would probably come here again but only as a second choice. The ward location would be the first!

Waited 5 minutes for someone to give us a number ticket, the employees kept walking pass us and not once did they ask if we were helped up until I said something. One of your employees(Stephanie?) kept staring at me like I had something on my face. Not only did it make me feel uncomfortable, I wanted to leave right away because her eyes could not just get off of me! Like yes? Can I help you? Train your employees to be more professional and stop giving girls stink eye.

Our first time here… 40 min wait at 8pm on a Saturday. Two of us packed in at the counter with arms like a t-rex aaand a dirty ice water cup – is it green mold or wasabi? I don’t want to know. Their unagi was so thin, so dry, so sad. I rate the quality of their fish equivalent to tuna salad… cheap. Plus the plates on conveyor belt seemed untouched or are they used to fulfill the tablet orders? The order tablet and service cars are for the kids – I prefer good service, so lesson learned. All in all, we won’t be back. Sayonara beaches!

I’ve only ever eaten here by myself, so I can’t speak for the wait time with a party. Only once were they so busy that even a seat for one required at least a 20-minute wait, and that was around Christmastime. That being said, I mostly use the iPad to order my food, so I know it was made more recently than the other items on the belt. If you’re looking for knock-your-socks off sushi, this probably isn’t the place you’re looking for. However, for the convenience, the very reasonable prices, and pretty good sushi for what it is, I really like Genki. The Waitstaff here is also pretty attentive, always refilling my water seemingly at the right moment. The fact that there is almost always a wait is always a good sign to me. Fyi, this restaurant is located towards the new Ewa wing of Ala Moana(think Long’s Drugs and Bloomingdale’s end), but on the side of the parking lots. There is no entrance into Genki from the mall side. You must walk either through Sephora, Long’s, or Victoria’s Secret and turn right. Or walk just past Starbucks and bear left, passing Harry Winston.

This Genki location including the renovations are nice. It’s clean and orderly inside with large windows, a good turnaround time(~15−20min wait), friendly and prompt service, and probably one of the more decent sushi among other Genkis. Yes, it’s true, the sushi here isn’t as good as other sushi spots especially since the cheap sushi options they offer sucks. Their better sushi are the more expensive plates. Go figure! I’d say they offer the same sushi grade as Kozo sushi but Kozo has a hand up since it’s about half the price. But this location offers a townie’s dream and a cool vibe: plenty of parking; nice clean but casual vibe; cool ass conveyor belt, kitchen to table delivery of plates; and decent service. If anything, I’d say one is paying for the novelty, accessibility, and the cleanliness of the place. An enjoyable experience but not the best. Otherwise, choose another sushi place.

For the most part, this place is good most of the time. You can get the plates off of the conveyor belt or order it through the touch screen system that they put in about a year or two ago. Every table has a tablet that you can order the food from. I personally like to order from the touchscreen for two reasons. First, you don’t know how long the food has been on the conveyor belt or who has touched it. Second, my eight year old gets a thrill watching the food come on those race cars that the plates are on. This time we ordered my favorite, the spicy ahi bowl. It’s so good with the teri sauce on it. We also got the kabocha tempura, spicy ahi bomb, tuna bomb, ika kaarage, teri chicken bowl, california roll, fried chicken pieces, and fried salmon bone. Every item comes on a different color plate. The color of the plate will let you know how much each plate costs. The food was nice and fresh. They make it in the back as you order it. The fish was firm and smooth. The tempura was hot out of the fryer and so crispy. Genki’s isn’t one of those fancy, swanky, sushi places. It’s more of a fast food sushi place. When you’re craving sushi though, it hits the spot.

Genki use to be my go to sushi spot back in the day but somewhere along the years, my taste buds outgrew their sushi servings as I ventured off to different sushi joints. My sister and I recently went to have lunch here since we were strolling through the mall. A total upgrade in technology and renovations from the last time I’ve been there. I guess it’s really been a while. We were there shortly after 1 pm on a Saturday and waited no longer than 15 minutes. It wasn’t as busy as I’ve experience before in the past visits as I’d remember waiting up to 45 minutes to an hour. They now print out a waiting number ticket as you wait for your number to be called. I really like the new ordering system concept of the little cars transporting the food on the conveyor belt to where you’re sitting. If I were you, I’d order straight from the menu and not get it directly off the rolling conveyor belt. You get a lot more fresher items that the ones that may have been sitting there rolling around for quite some time. The ordering system is pretty simple and straight forward. You can order up to 4 items each order as many times as you want. The orders on the car came in quickly manner. It’s one of those fascinating things that excite me to experience things such as that bullet express for ordering food from an ipad menu. It’s so much better than trying to flag down a waiter. The prices surely went up from what I remember. A lot of the items even moved up a plate price. I order my usual chicken karaage, spicy tuna bowl, somen salad, and vegetable croquette. I was quite surprise at the portion servings when I received it. I felt that as the prices went up, the portions and quality went down. Even though I ordered it from the menu, it didn’t seem fresh to me. The rice was hard and not appetizing with the spicy ahi. I just didn’t feel like my money was worth it with the quality of food that I was served that day. I’ve experienced a lot more fresher sushi at similar type of sushi establishment. Service was friendly though as they checked up on us a few times and filled up our water. Although, I probably won’t be back here anytime soon but hopefully if and when I do, I’ll have a better experience.

If you’ve had the real deal in Japan and want to try for comparison, don’t do it. If you want to try because you’re curious, don’t do it. I’ve already done that for you! I paid my $ 20 for not-so-fresh fish, pasty white rice, over-fried squash tempura, imitation crab, and a view of over-sauced, days old looking sushi running on a conveyor belt. If you’re new to sushi, don’t do it. You’ll never want to try sushi again! I’d rather take my $ 20 and buy a poke rice bowl, which seems to be served more fresh on the island. 1-star for the two tracks of race car aka«bullet train» delivery experience above the conveyor belt.

In Hawaii, there are plenty of «fast food» versions of sushi and then there are the higher end places that you will drop a pretty penny. For me, Genki ranks somewhere in between, slightly better than fast food sushi since you can at least get it made to order and there are baked or cooked items on the menu, and modifications. The concept is simple. Take plates off the rotating conveyer belt, or(new to me on this trip home) take the tablet at your table and order from the menu that way, with the ability to peruse the menu and look at pictures. I enjoyed using the tablet to order, you can place 4 orders at a time and it arrives in a timely manner via«express train» on the conveyer belt. SO cute. I love it! The menu is still the same as I remember. I like the poke nigiri, nato, spicy ahi, and ebi. The cooked food is decent too.

Genki takes Kaiten style sushi dining to a whole new level with their«Bullet Express» order and delivery system. Now you don’t have to wait for your favorite sushi items to come around the conveyor belt, or wait for the waitress to come around to take and delivery your order. Simply place your order using the touch screen console above your table, and wait for your sushi to be delivered right to your table on the express rail system. They still have select sushi plates rotating on the regular conveyor belt, which comes in handy if you’re famished and want to eat something while you’re waiting for your order. Or maybe you’re more of a visual person and would rather select your sushi by looking at the actual thing on the belt. Just make sure to pace yourself when you order from the bullet express. They make it so easy to order that your eyes may be bigger than your stomach and you may end up ordering more than you need/want.

Very impressive re-design of their Ala Moana Shopping center location. Additional booth and smaller rotating sushi«belt». Customers have touch screen menus(wireless device), which allows you to place individual orders(up to 4 items). Minutes after finalizing your order, they send a small motorized cart with your sushi dishes! Each order is freshly made, avoiding the«stale» dishes that sit on the rotating belt. As a result of this improvement in customer service, the average wait time for a table dramatically decreases. My average wait time at a traditional Genki Sushi location is about 20 to 30 minutes(during peak dining hours), whereas our wait time was 12 minutes.
