There are so many places in Hawaii trying to make a go of it. That it’s difficult for me to give a bad review. This place is rude, crude, and just plain don’t care for your business. If you asked them a simple question like«what time do you open» their answer is always«I don’t know. «No smile. They do speak English like. «Don’t waste my time unless you’re paying. « That being said I think this is the rudest market and I challenge you to find one that’s ruder. Ha ha ha. I think this will give them more business. Market Nazis. That’ll give them a reason to smile.

I pretty much do my produce shopping in Chinatown on a weekly basis and tend to patronize the same vendors over and over. I look for freshness and great prices. Communication is also important because there are times I’ll ask a question or 2. Recently John N. gave us a great tip on B I Farms which is a gem. Fresh organic produce from North Shore at such great deals. However, I don’t get to them early enough as I’ve had to choose from their«leftovers» after they’ve been mobbed! I’ll admit I’ve passed this vendor MANY times and may have picked up some fruits in the past but I have never really ventured inside. So after a disappointing stop at B I Farms with not much to choose from I walked down Kekaulike St to find a «mob» of peeps shopping in front of here. I was intrigued so I decided to be nosy and check out what the fuss was all about! There was a line of about 6 peeps waiting to pay outside plus a whole bunch of elderly Asian ladies picking fruits and veggies. Not really seeing much I walked inside this store and was amazed on how large, bright and fairly clean this place was! They had a large assortment of fresh produce lined nicely with prices handwritten on cardboard pieces. They were indeed fairly priced and the vegetables did look good. I then noticed in the middle a section dedicated to fresh Manila clams, shrimp, book tripe and beef tendon! On the sides were refrigerators and freezers of seafood, meats and tofu. On the back you have canned goods and dried items with also a couple of refrigerators decided for soft drinks as well. In the front you can find the«bargains» with pre-packed veggies and fruits for $ 1. Some have been bruised slightly or odd-shaped produce. This is pretty much a great place to shop but then I realize the cashiers here(there are 2 of them; one inside and the other outside) are Mandarin speaking! My Mandarin isn’t my strongest suit of foreign languages and their English is limited. It’s pretty much the bare minimum to do a purchase but walked out slightly disappointed. For that I had to knock off 1-star. Overall, a great place to pick-up fresh produce with a large selection.
