Okay, I have to admit, I WAS skeptical to take my dry cleaning to a place that sells Thai food. But the Thai food is great. The business info indicates that they are open on Saturday… they aren’t. And apparently they aren’t open during the week at lunch time either :-(I patiently waited in line while people ordered their Thai food to-go and when it was my turn, I said I wanted to drop off some dry cleaning. Here is what I was told: «You come back in afternoon» Me: «I can’t do this on my lunch hour» FDC: «No, you come back in afternoon» Me: «Not on your life!» So, being right on the edge of Chinatown, I decided to walk around and see if there are other dry cleaners — legitimate dry cleaners — around. I didn’t have to go far. I found Angell’s on Hotel Street. So, that is where my slacks are as we speak. I hope I can give them many stars when I pick them up on Monday.

CODENAME: DRYCLEANERTHAI (ex: «I’m on a tight budget this week. Should we get some dry cleaner Thai for lunch today?») In Pioneer Plaza, there are a myriad of eateries and convenience stores. Fantastique Dry Cleaning is located next door to Phở Twin & Bento to the left of the yummy Hokulani cupcake stand. They advertise dry cleaning services, and selling Thai and vegetarian food. Fantastique is anything, but fantastic, thus earning all 2 of my stars. When you walk through their doors, they can take your dry cleaning to your left, and sell you Thai food to your right. The breakdown is as follows: DRYCLEANER: $$ The service was not met with a smile. In fact, I felt like I was inconveniencing the counter-lady with my one dress I wanted dry cleaned. I waited a week for my dress to be ready and paid a whopping ~$ 11, which is a pretty steep dry cleaning bill for one dress. They also offer alteration services, but I’m pretty weary of taking them up on that. THAI: $ Tight budget this month? Too lazy for a home-lunch? Don’t mind eating some mediocre Thai or vegetarian food? Then come on down, step to the right of their dry cleaning counter, and get yourself a mini or large plate of Thai food. Before our usual lunch-time card game, some of my coworkers and I like to come here when we want a cheap(mini: ~$ 4.90 with tax), good-sized portion of «it’s-alright» Thai food. Their pad thai is usually ok and sometimes their chicken panang can be really dry. Their sticky rice is usually good and sometimes their green curry has too much coconut milk in it and can be overly spicy. In general, the quality of the food is CONSISTENTLYINCONSISTENT, so I’ve gotten lucky on some days. Their vegetarian dishes aren’t very good. They usually serve more meaty dishes than they do vegetarian anyway. All in all, it’s those lucky days, the cheap price, and the serving portions that keep me coming here for Thai food every now and then. I usually walk in with a 5-dollar bill and my fingers crossed.
