Easter Seals Hawaii Gingerbread Family Festival

This is such an awesome fundraising event to attend for the holidays if you have children, need to get into the holiday spirit, or want to showcase your craftiness! This year’s event was held at the Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall where families and companies got to construct gingerbread houses both for fun and for competition.
The Exhibition hall was filled with tables full of gingerbread house construction going on. Basically, you pre-​ordered a gingerbread house kit (you may purchase more than one), you check in and they give you your kit and find an open table and start constructing! They have an option where companies can compete in the gingerbread house-​making. The theme was Hawaii Landmarks and boy did the participating companies deliver! They had to build everything on a larger scale of course-​but the main items were provided by Easter Seals (gingerbread, frosting, some basic candies, etc.). They had two hours to construct their Hawaii landmark and they were asked to do a Christmas jingle as a team while they were being judged. Entries included Matsumoto Grocery Store, Aloha Tower, Aloha Stadium, Waikiki (included Diamond Head, Waikiki Shell and Waikiki beach), Iolani Palace and the entire island of Oahu. The detailing of these landmarks was amazing!
Not only were we able to construct gingerbread houses and see all of the other beautiful, yummy-​looking gingerbread houses, but there was live entertainment, food vendors, displays, Christmas card crafting, photos w/​Santa, and specialty gifts to purchase. I will definitely be attending this event again next year and highly recommend it to you all-it’s a great family (and friends, co-​workers) event!
