Design 5

I have used Design 5 on 4 separate custom drapery jobs over 10 years. They have always been fantastic. On this recent job, the draperies for the 3 windows being covered were ½ inch too long. They came out and took them back for alteration, and had them hung back up the very next day, and they were perfect. Congrats to the whole team, especially Dennis.

Our family moved into a large Manoa home in which Design 5 blinds had been installed. Prior to our taking over, the blinds in the home had all been sent back to Design 5 for a complete re-​haul. Several of the blinds subsequently malfunctioned. One understands this happens, and we were quite willing to pay for on-​site repair; however, getting a call-​back from the service team was quite difficult. After three days, I finally called again, only to be given the clear impression we were imposing on a team much more interested in selling new product. Blinds were fixed — sort of — by a genial couple of technicians who chortled about the fact they’d left hardware from other people’s installations in our house. Unfortunately, a week later one important set in our child’s room (facing a public street) malfunctioned again. When I called, I was once again given the runaround. I finally asked my husband to call, and we did get a very snippy call-​back from the scheduling agent. I’m a pretty chill person, and I like to support local businesses — but when I don’t feel my business is valued — when I’m made to feel as if my patronage is an imposition — I’m going to look elsewhere. Fortunately there are other options on Oahu for our upcoming renovation.

People are really nice and they have a lot of things to select from. Cathy was patient and made some excellent recommendations and great points.
Still in the shopping mode and not ready to move yet, but I do recommend them if you are in the market for new window coverings…

Window coverings are an expensive event.
After a remodel, wife and I converted a kids room into a living room in our ohana house.
We put up a window «shade» from Wal Mart.
That held up for a while until our neighbor decided to add a second story.
Now we see eye to eye with our neighbors. And that is not a good thing.
Whenever we want to run around in our skivvies, we have to do a «duck and roll» every time we go by the window facing our neighbor’s house.
Since we are tired of giving free peep shows we went looking for window coverings.
We first stopped at Design 5 and were shown some shutters.
We «shuttered» at the cost which is upwards of 4 digits for both of our windows.
We did the noble thing and shopped around.
Lowe’s: «I’m sorry we would help you, but we have a needy woman who is complaining in front of you.»
Home Depot: (lady on phone while talking to us) «How much square footage?» «That’ll be $ 18.00 per sq ft… you do the math…(back to phone call) «Yes with a large drink.»
Stupid us acutally did the math and it came out to be about a million dollars.
We then went back to Design 5 who quoted us an even more discounted rate than original because we are willing to wait for the next shipment.
A nice man came to our house and did the measurements. He was on time and quick.
A few weeks later the shipment came in and two nice guys came and professionally installed out shutters. They were on time too and took about 20 minutes to get the job done.
Lifetime warranty is nice too.
Now we have beautiful shutters and can walk around the house going commando without having to do commando exercises to avoid the neighbors.
To help pay for the shutters we will start charging our neighbors for special show times.

A coworker referred me to them in my search for new window blinds. Jae was very friendly and knowledgeable in explaining the different blinds and operating mechanisms they had to offer. I was pleased to get a ballpark estimate quickly based on the size of my windows before leaving. I received a small window magazine to take home for further reading.
Once I decided to go with Design 5, they came to my condo to do a site survey and get accurate window measurements. They brought a catalog of material samples and colors so I could see how it would actually look on my windows. The site survey was free by the way. I was emailed a quote a few days later.
Upon committing to purchase the items on the quote, I had to pay half of the cost up front. The other half was due after the installation. I had to wait 3 – 4 weeks for the materials to be shipped from the mainland because they are all custom made. After the materials came in, they called me to schedule a day and time for the installation. They were really fast. It took about 1.5 hours. The installers left no mess and provided training on how to operate and maintain the blinds.
The blinds I chose were pricey, but they work really well at keeping the heat out. Plus they come with a lifetime warranty! They qualified for a tax rebate, which Design 5 mailed me all the necessary paperwork to make the process a breeze.
I highly recommend Design 5!

My husband and I stopped in one day to get a quick estimate for curtains for our apartment. We were helped right away and I was surprised at how fast the estimate took. They have a large selection of curtains to pick from and most are available very soon for installation. We continued to look around and get other estimates but ended up with Design 5 because of their customer service and price. You really can’t beat them.
I would recommend Design 5 to anybody thinking of redoing their curtains, blinds, shutters, etc. They really know what they are doing!
