Always an excellent dining experience and outstanding service!!! Café Miro is a neighborhood gem in Kaimuki. Appetizers: Foie Gras Don, Kona Abalone & Scallop and Beef Tataki highly recommended. Entrée Course: Duck Confit, Young Chicken w/Morel Mushrooms and Braised Short Ribs, very delicious. Dessert: Assorted Platter gives you a taste of it all, while their individual dessert selections are also really good. Vanilla Mac Nut Gelato was VERY good.

Came here for a graduation party so they accommodated about 20 something of us. Not too sure how the normal restaurant is but we had a set menu which was pretty good. Just that the portions were small. Served good wine but a bad thing is that they allow you to bring your own wine in, but they charge a $ 30 corkage fee PERBOTTLE. So that’s why instead of bringing our own drinks for the dinner, we just bought the bottles there. Since I was a guest at this party, I didn’t have to pay so I am not too sure how pricey they are, but I will assume that they are pretty high priced. I’ll say it is because of their sophisticated dishes. Even their restaurant has an upper class feel to it. They try to make it an authentic French restaurant. Service was excellent and food was tasty. Would come here again for a more classier date if ever in the area.

Parking is a little tight for some spaces but no charge it’s a deal and fairly plentiful for early diners. Atmosphere is great high ceiling and ample space versus many trendy places where you cannot hear the other person and end up talking fairly loud if not yelling, this made for extremely comfortable dining. A bit expensive but still a decent value. If you have a bigger appetite go for the 4 course versus 3 course fixed menu. FYI, fixed dinners came with a small cup of soup to wet the appetite Assorted appetizer tasted very good and the presentation was better(4 course) Abalone and scallop is Ichiban All other entrée’s were better than good Assorted dessert presentation is the best, taste was right on! Service is great all around!

A+. This was our second time, the first being years ago. This time we brought our 2 year old and it was very special. The filet with foie gras was the highlight, followed by the pan seared seafood sampler. The chicken breast with morels and mahi in brown butter sauce good but not memorable. The baby loved the complimentary vichyssoise(ate both our bowls!) And couldn’t get enough of the berry sorbet. And the service! Everyone was so nice. One of the cooks made a special trip out of the kitchen just to have a moment with the baby, and they made her a special dessert of fruit and ice cream :) The price was very reasonable, less than a comparable meal at the comparable restaurants.

A friend from another island was visiting town, so I let him pick our dinner destination. He first chose Town, but family friends recommended that we venture across the street to check out Café Miro instead. I wasn’t opposed since I actually never even heard of the place before. I don’t go for French cuisine often, just because it usually tends to be pricy. But my friend is a talented chef and loves the plating and aesthetics of French food, so French for dinner it was. We had a reservation for 7 p.m., and I was relieved to discover that the restaurant had a parking lot in the back. Actually, they share a parking lot with a bank and there are allotted Café Miro stalls, but customers can use the bank stalls after the bank closes. What a relief, since I’m usually stressed about finding parking in Kaimuki. BONUS: Since it was my friend’s birthday, I called the restaurant while I was driving there to ask if they did anything for birthdays. The lady who answered the phone said they sometimes wrote happy birthday on the dessert plates, but they also could personalize the menu. I didn’t know quite what that meant, but I just said to do something to make it special for my friend. Café Miro has a pleasant and quieter interior(unless there’s a huge party there, which there was during the time of our visit), but we were able to enjoy a good meal and great conversation during our time there. Service was spot-on – they were really good at keeping my water glass full – and the birthday element was actually really nice. They wrote«Happy Birthday» and my friend’s name on his menu, and when our meal concluded, they offered to roll up his menu like a scroll. What a nice touch so you could remember a special occasion. I had a little trouble navigating the menu here(even after our poor server explained it several times), but I was happy with everything I ordered for dinner. There’s a Prixe Fixe menu or a Chef’s Special Menu you can choose from. I would revisit Café Miro, but probably only for special occasions, just because I don’t normally spend this much when going out for dinner. Here’s what I would recommend: «Appetizer Tasting Plate»: Instead of getting one appetizer, I would highly recommend getting this option because you get to try a great variety. While each portion of the featured items was small, my friend just split everything in half so we could experience the different tastes, flavors and textures. Included in this tasting plate were: ahi carpaccio wasabi mayo; cured New Zealand king salmon with sliced maui onions, salmon caviar and dill vinaigrette, fresh oysters, kona abalone and scallop with mushroom fond de veau sauce. I think my favorite of everything presented was the crab cake that was perfectly fried to a golden brown and super tasty on the inside. My second favorite was probably the ahi carpaccio … what a great medley of flavors. I would order this appetizer again in a heartbeat. «Catch of the Day»: Even though the menu can seem daunting, be sure to listen for the daily specials. During our visit, the Catch of the Day was mahi, and I opted for that. This had to be one of the best mahi entrees I ever had in my life. The mahi was soft and tasted fresh, and it came sautéed in an almond garlic butter. It was served with veggies and glorified mashed potatoes. I had my friend taste the mahi(he’s around fresh fish a lot) and even he was impressed by the taste and presentation. I tell you, that almond garlic sauce did wonders. «Roasted Young Chicken with a Morel Mushroom Cream Sauce»: This is the entrée my friend got, and I had a bite of it. The chicken was moist and tender, and the mushroom cream sauce was savory and delicious. I had contemplated ordering this for myself until I heard the«Catch of the Day» was mahi(which I ended up ordering). But, for any first-timer to Café Miro, this is a good, hearty and safe option. The chicken wasn’t too dry, either. «Assorted Dessert Plate»: Dessert came with my entrée since I ordered from the Grand Prixe Menu, but I shared the dessert plate with my friend. It was basically like a sampler of some of the desserts available for the evening. Among them included a sorbet(I can’t remember the flavor, but I think it was guava or raspberry), crème brulee, tiramisu and fresh fruits. I think my favorite had to actually be the crème brulee, thanks to the caramelized surface. The tiramisu was light and delicious as well, and the sorbet was refreshing. Of course, I usually opt for something chocolate on the dessert menu, but no chocolate option was available, so I decided this dessert sampler was the best way to experience everything. «Duck Confit Topped with Thyme and Onion Fond de Canard»: If I didn’t order the«Catch of the Day,» this is the other entrée I was contemplating ordering. I do like duck confit but don’t get it that much. I’m intrigued to see what this entrée looks like and how it’s prepared.

As I reflect on my dining experience for my 7th wedding anniversary nothing stands out. As each course came out I waited for the on a plate to wow me. I wasn’t wowed. Even the service was decent but not spectacular. The ambiance was meh. Maybe I’m not a fan of the Japanese/French cuisine.

Took friends for their birthday and they were impressed! Sad to see some long time friends no longer work there, Jimmy, Trent, Bronson. But Joe took great care of us as did Lauren! Chef always has a nice smile for me. We opened a very special bottle of aged wine that we had been holding, but the wine list prices are not bad either! We love this place!

My boyfriend and I came to Waikiki for our first time and this was absolutely our all time favorite restaurant. The 4 and 5 course menu was a bit difficult to understand at first(as you get to choose each course instead of being told what each course would be), but WOW! The BESTFRENCHFOOD I’VEEVERHAD, and I thought the Eiffel Tower restaurant in Las Vegas was the best! Literally, everything we had was delicious and well worth it. Not to mention the staff is extremely polite and well mannered. We will be back Café Miro!

Everyone is extremely friendly and very helpful in explaining the menus to you. Their prosciutto salad was much tastier and presentable than the smoked salmon. There scallops were nice and soft. The sauce was different and helped add flavor. If you like cheese I would recommend getting that as the dessert. The best part of the sweet desserts is the ice cream!

Service was great and food was wonderful. Price was reasonable. We got a nice table and the manager was very impressive. She was attentive and hands-on, definitely a keeper and a highlight to the restaurant. It’s nice to see a manager or owner that touches every table and helps staff. The décor needs some loving. If it was my restaurant, I would make minimum adjustments like change the tablecloth to white cloth with a glass top, make the lights dimmer, and change the music to go with the audience.

From the time we opened the door, this was a 5-star experience. Simply excellent. I am more of a hole-in-the-wall kind of guy, so it’s unusual that I’d review a place like Café Miro. Our meal for two, without alcohol, came to about $ 130 with tax and tip — way out of our usual price range. Given that it was a special occasion, that seemed appropriate. The inside of the restaurant is clean and attractive — not fancy, but tasteful and very pleasant. The vinyl table cloths are not an indicator of the quality of the service or food, both of which were excellent. The walls are graced with works from the Spanish artist Joan Miro, for whom the restaurant is named. If you look carefully around the décor, you may find a couple of books which explore his art work, if you’re interested in that sort of thing. Diners can order a la carte, but the menu was roughly divided into two halves — one for a three-course prix fixe meal(appetizer, entrée, dessert), the other for a similar four-course meal with an additional entrée. We got one of each and it was… very, very, very good. We had a chilled potato soup to start, then a couple of appetizer plates. The Pan Fried Seafood Medley salad was spectacular — a must order. The five appetizer sampler was also excellent. Our entrée picks were the scallops, the lamb, and their fish of the day. I can’t quite remember the fish, which was the weakest of the three; the other two were very good. For our dessert plates, we had a cheese and fruit sampler(wonderful) and a dessert sampler plate with 3 – 4 items(good). The service was really first-rate. I appreciate good service, but I’m usually not wowed by it. But I was really impressed by the servers here; they asked if we were celebrating anything(and subsequently gifted the soup), explained the menu and patiently answered our many questions about the dishes, and provided enough follow up to ensure that we had what we needed without smothering us. They didn’t rush us out, which was nice for a special occasion; we actually closed the place down. There is a little bit of parking in the back, though it’s not easy to find. I hope we can go again someday; it really helped to make our special occasion feel special.

Let me just start off by saying Tony is a fantastic waiter. Very knowledgeable about the cuisine and he had a down to earth attitude. I hate when I go to a nice restaurant and the waiter is snobby. None of that here. And the food is amazing. I had the seafood medley and the catch of the day. I was suprised with the flavor and size of the salad. The catch of the day was flavorfull and tender. I’m definitely coming back to hand out with Tony and eat more amazing food.

GREAT experience! Flavorful food! Service was exceptional. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday, so I let them know when I made the reservations online. That day I got a call conforming my reservations & name of my husband. When I arrived, they sat us in a nice quiet romantic corner facing the evening sun. His menu was personalized~ so sweet! We asked for a French experience and the waiter was very helpful. I had the four course meal, my husband had the three. Our favorite was the goose liver spread. & the dessert assortment. Amazing staff, service & chef. MAHALO!

Big ups to this amazingly run restaurant. It has been quite a long time since I’ve had such a wonderful meal, with amazing service, and a great all-around surrounding — that made the experience all the more fabulous. Something else I really enjoyed about the surroundings was that the inside of the restaurant… The acoustics were excellent. I did not have to try and yell to talk to my dinner me, nor did I have to strain to hear him talk. The meal started off by being seated, and the manager/maître d’ seemed to know us and were familiar us having to reschedule our reservation due to flight delays. What a great touch. The food arrived and was all-around spectacular. For the coursed meal I selected I was one course short… I was provided a course complements of the chef. Every course was amazing, delicious, and to be quite frank… I selected something on the menu that I didn’t think sounded very yummy(but was highly recommended by my old office mate) I was blown away as it was completely out of this world. The seafood salad is a must, the braised beef is amazing, the sirloin is delicious and the beef tartare was fabulous… out fish course which was the daily special was great… Well beyond great. And the flippin bread-and-butter was perfect. I will not get into the desserts because I am trying not to eat unhealthy food today but let’s just say if I could only have one dessert to choose when I am about to die I will choose this dessert platter. Thank you Café Miro for the all-around amazing meal, service and for making for a fabulous night!

Simply exquisite. My boyfriend and I have been eyeballing this place, as we live in Kaimuki, for a while now. After checking out their reviews, we had to stop in. We sat at the bar which was very elegant and romantic. They lit a candle for us and served us drinks and we were served promptly. The service was polite, sophisticated and friendly. It was old-fashioned fine-dining service in a casual setting. I felt absolutely pampered the entire experience. As we sat and waited for our food, we were given an amuse bouche of cold peach soup. It was an excellent palate cleanser and a delicate way to start the meal. We also received their house baked roll which was so scrumptious, I had to ask for another one. They tasted like a croissant! We both started with the appetizer sampler which was divine! There was a deviled egg with a cornichon wrapped in prosciutto, a broiled herb butter oyster(!), a shrimp gelee, a crab croquette and a piece of ahi carpaccio(!). The ahi was the best bite of the evening! From there, I ordered the scallop and my boyfriend had the foie gras with teriyaki rice. Both were incredibly outstanding. Chef Miro dropped them off to us personally. It was such a great touch. After dinner, I switched to a glass of Brut and we shared the cheese platter for dessert which featured blue cheese, Vermont cheddar and brie with various fruits, nuts and walnut raisin bread. I felt 100 percent satisfied. We loved the ambiance which was reminiscent of a fondue house at a ski lodge in the Alps. It felt homey and we adored the service and food. We can’t wait to come back to try the coursed menus and see what else Chef Miro has up his sleeve.

As a Palolo/Kaimuki lifer, I’ve probably driven past Café Miro hundreds of times. But on a recent Saturday night, I was surprised by a spontaneous date night to Café Miro! Parking was simple, in the lot off 9th Ave. behind the restaurant. It was a short walk around the corner from the lot to the restaurant entrance on Waialae! He had reservations for 7:30pm, but we were about 10 minutes early. No problem, we were seated anyway… and at the cutest table ever! Our table was right by the window tucked away in a corner that was nicely lit and decorated. Very adorable! Since this was a splurge night, we decided to go all out and order off the Chef’s Special prix fixe menu($ 58/person). We also ordered a large order of the foie gras/pâté spread. I got a chardonnay as well($ 10 for the glass). I thought that our waiter did a great job walking us through the menu, explaining the specials, and being patient with me as I am extremely indecisive when it comes to ordering at restaurants! Right after we ordered, a server brought us bread and butter. I had a small piece, but held out for the foie gras/pâté spread before eating more. Then, a small bowl of cold soup was brought out! I couldn’t really hear the description of the soup, but it was white and tasted like there was some potato. It was really refreshing because its been so hot, and we finished our soups without leaving a single drop! A few minutes later, our appetizers came… I was really impressed with how quick these came out! He picked the prosciutto salad(special) and I picked the appetizer tasting plate. I had a few bites of the salad and was amazed at how much prosciutto was included. The slices were laid over a bed of arugula with thick pieces of mozzarella cheese and cherry tomato halves on the side, walnuts on top, and a drizzle of honey-based dressing. It was very refreshing and tasty! My tasting plate had a bit of 5 different apps: seared ahi, crab cake, cold shrimp gelatin, oyster, and something that was reminiscent of a deviled egg w/prosciutto. Everything was good, and it was difficult to not eat it all and save a bite of each for the boy to try. I think my faves off this plate were the oyster and the crab cake! Next came our seafood… he picked the almond butter opah and I picked the scallops w/uni sauce. Both were amazing! My plate had 2 scallops that were cooked perfectly… they were very soft and delicate. The uni sauce was very rich and went well with the scallops! I had one scallop and then swapped plates to try the opah. If you get their catch of the day(which was opah when we went) you can select either Japanese style or French style preparation. He had selected the French style, which was almond butter. This was also good! The fish was not overcooked, and the sauce was buttery and almondy… we ended up using some of the bread to eat up all the sauce which was a good choice. Next came our main courses, he picked the rack of lamb(regular order comes w/2 pieces, he added a 3rd for an extra charge) and I picked the braised duck special. Both came with a small serving of potatoes and veggies. The duck was wonderful! The meat was very soft, easy to cut and chew. The sauce on the duck was amazing too! I tried some of the lamb, which was also nice and tender. I’m not a fan of mint, though, and there was mint all over the lamb… if I were to order this myself I would probably get the mint sauce on the side(or get none at all). As we ate, we realized that my wine and the foie gras/pâté spread never came. We asked a server about it, and also requested the smaller portion of the foie gras/pâté spread($ 3) since the order was never put in. In about a minute, both my wine and the spread came. We indulged in more bread to try the spread and it was great! The spread was extremely rich and flavored very lightly so that you could taste more of the foie gras and pâté. Finally…dessert! We each got the dessert trio which comes with a piece of tiramisu, crème brulee, some fresh fruit, and a scoop of Kona coffee gelato. I’m allergic to caffeine and don’t take my chances with anything coffee flavored, so I requested another flavor of gelato. When my desserts came out I was surprised with a scoop of mac nut gelato instead! All the desserts were great… the crème brulee was extremely creamy and the sugar on top was perfectly hardened over, the gelato was a nice complement to the crème brulee. I know what you’re thinking — isn’t tiramisu made with coffee?! I usually don’t eat tiramisu but made an exception here… it was yummy and there was no good sub for it. When the bill came, we noticed that they did not charge us for the foie gras/pâté spread that we got extremely late in our meal! After we paid, we rolled out of Café Miro very full and very happy. Hope to be back soon! TL;DR — yummy prix fixe menu options, amazing service, and perfect date night!

I can’t say enough positive things about this place. the plating is exquisite. If I had not of tried to use my iPhone as an unteathered fishing lure in Wiamea bay I’d have posted a number of pics. EVERYTHING was good. The place is run by a Japanese chef trained in French cuisine. As such you get the best of both worlds. polite staff and food that actually has flavor and plating. My two criteria that drove me here was that I wanted either French or Italian and I wasn’t going to dress up in more than board shorts and a T-shirt. The result is an great dinner that you can have in flip flops for less than 200 bucks for a couple. The décor is kinda eclectic. champagne flutes served on vinyl table cloth, so not a place to take a date on that likes to dress up or expects you to show up wearing pants.

Hands down one of the best restaurants I’ve ever dined at! This is a great cozy restaurant off Waialae, and it’s such a treasure even though it looks unsuspecting from the outside. The inside looks a bit like an old diner/lodge, which I liked because it made me feel relaxed and comfortable, unlike other fancier restaurants that make me feel like I have to be very proper and can’t touch anything. My boyfriend and I went here for his birthday and we both loved it! Our server, Bronson, was fantastic and we were both very impressed by him, the food, and the overall service at the restaurant. Bronson was very polite and explained how the menus worked thoroughly, gave us great food recommendations, and even described to us the process of how/why the food was prepared and cooked the way it is, which really enhanced our dining experience here. He’s also a great bartender! We both chose the 3 course prix fixe menu. We began with rolls and liver pâté, and were served a peach soup for our amuse bouche. I got the broiled oysters for my appetizer, which was a fantastic choice for me, as I have never had broiled oysters before(only fresh), but I loved them! They are prepared escargot style with herbs and butter on top. Boyfriend got the beef tataki which he really enjoyed – they prepare this dish a little differently from other restaurants and it really tasted great. We had another«in-between» small dish with a deviled egg and macaroni salad before the entrée. Then for our main courses we got the duck confit(SO good) and the young chicken, which was also really tasty! Lastly, we both chose the dessert platter to end our night. This included small portions of crème brûlée, gelato, haupia cake, and fresh fruit. What a treat to get a taste of all these delicious desserts :) And, just as an extra bonus that made me really happy, the restaurant called me a few hours before my reservation to confirm the time, and also to ask me for my boyfriend’s name since I had told them it was a birthday dinner for him. They customized his menu to have it say«Happy Birthday» with his name on the top, and after the dinner they rolled up the menu and made it into a little scroll tied with a ribbon as a nice keepsake. I am so happy we came to Café Miro and would 100% recommend to our friends.

Take a glance at the menu and you might think this place isn’t vegetarian friendly. However, they were more than willing to accommodate my pick-aterian needs.(I’m just picky.) I went with the 3 course option. My pre-appetizer was a deviled egg. Yum! My appetizer was the mushroom soup. Yum! My entrée was a veggie pasta. Yum! By the time I got to my entrée I really wasn’t hungry anymore. So I was going to opt out of the desserts because it was either a plate filled with sweets or cheese. But the waiter was able to offer just fruits for dessert. WoW. Yes, please. The food was good and the service was great. As long as this place is able to keep up with my pick-aterian needs, I’m there!

Cozy restaurant in the heart of Kaimuki. Lots of street parking and parking behind the restaurant. They feature French cooking and it is quite delicious. There are two prix fixe dinner menus affordably priced. The more expensive menu includes more food. But I found the smaller menu very satisfying. I am a large eater and while the portions seem small when it arrives on the table, believe me you will get filled up pretty quickly. We sampled the prosciutto salad, seafood salad, and steak entrees, with the dessert sampler ending our meal. All quite satisfying and they serve an excellent bread roll. Perfectly crispy outer skin and fluffy soft bread on the inside. I just wished I had more room to eat this bread since it is very habit forming. Restaurant was full and they have a small room in back for private gatherings. One drawback is the vinyl table coverings which was not very comfortable to rest your arm on. Otherwise the restaurant would have rated higher. Overall restaurant rating 4 Food quality 4 Food selection 3.5 Value for the price 3.5 Friendly staff 4 This restaurant is worth a return visit. Check it out and save the travel to Paris to satisfy your French cravings.

Ok, this is my new favorite space for special occasions(and hot dates haha). We ate here recently for a good friend’s birthday. The manager was really gracious and helpful. I was allowed to bring a birthday cake, which they cut up and served for us after we sang. We all ordered different meals and we all loved our meals. You won’t be disappointed when you come here. Service was also very good. I can’t wait to go back there!

If you want to try something different, reasonably priced, and not too mainstream for a special occasion then this might be the place for you! The service was amazing and really made us feel special for our celebration. We ordered the pre fixe menu which is reasonably priced. Everything was seriously delicious from beginning to end. Especially loved the teriyaki foie gras don! Instead of me explaining how everything tastes, check it out!(See pictures from meal)

Hooooooooly mother of all that is delicious. This gem has been hiding from me in plain sight! Located store-front to Waialae Ave, a street a took everyday to get to school, this seemingly lowkey restaurant will make your mouth water, your stomachs fill with happiness, and your wallets empty. Pricey as it is, this place was incredible. We came for a friend’s graduation party around 8:15pm on a Friday. While the restaurant’s hours are technically 5:30 to 9pm, we and a few parties were here way past 10pm. Either nice of them or they figured that would happen, but with an insane menu of 4-course dinners, how can we not stay and enjoy it?! I’m trying to make a point if you’re not catching on — the food is incredible. From the rolls to the scallops to every single choice of the appetizer sampler to melt-in-your-mouth rib-eye to the insanely crave-inducing vanilla bean crème brûlée… these chefs have magic hands, I’m sure. I can’t even write too much about the food because I’m starting to make myself hungry again. It’s so good. Our waiters effortless kept our table of 12 content with water refills, wine top-offs, and plate changes as if they could do this with their eyes closed. They were friendly and quick and everything I could ever expect from a nicer place such as this. My test in these $$$ restaurants is always to check out the bathrooms — happy to say that this one definitely passes with flying colors and weirdly excellent lighting. Obviously this isn’t a place anyone can afford to go to all the time — but if you’re in town for a little bit or have a special occasion, come get some of that rib-eye with a red wine sauce :)

Little kept secret in Kaimuki on Waialae Ave. This restaurant serves mostly French cuisine and I was blown away by the fresh seafood and delicate sauces. The menu is a little confusing as they offer a prix fixe meal but you have the option of trading any dish with the ala carte menu. This restaurant aims to please and wants you to be a happy satisfied customer. They start you off with a complimentary bowl of vichyssoise. The rest of the meals were excellent. Foie gras, seafood salad with two fresh prawns, sautéed Bronzino with almond butter sauce, rack of lamb(3 pcs). Dessert was a choice of cheese platter or assorted desserts.

what: french cuisine with a twist~ touched by japanese and mediterranean sensibilities, the menu presents lighter fare than traditional preparations bring :) something good: we celebrated our holiday christmas party here! i had previously lived in kaimuki but never visited this restaurant~ now i’m so bummed that i don’t live there anymore because this restaurant is so amazing! at first the menu is a little confusing, but with the super fantastic service ordering became a breeze! we all chose to do the prix fixe menu! and we were all glad we did! we were so full after eating through the courses! i really enjoyed all aspects of this restaurant, cute & cozy interior, excellent customer service(our waiter’s name was frank!), and such amazing food! i will definitely be back~! something not so good: i don’t think you will find one thing you don’t like about the restaurant :) ! something to try: pan fried hokkaido scallop & assorted dessert plate

A high price for a blend of Japanese and French cuisine with a cheap ambiance. I came here for a friends birthday celebration on a week night. We made reservations and was greeted fine, but some confusion with who was our waiter. One person came around to ask if we were helped yet. This confusion is a minor mistake, but a mistake at a high end restaurant is more like a huge mistake. I expect a question like that at a cheaper restaurant that you just walk in at seat yourself. Besides that, the service was good from that point on. Our waiter was very informative and very friendly. We had no clue what to get and he had really good suggestions and he was very helpful. The ambiance is seriously lacking for the price point. The restaurant is clean, but the tables, chairs, and décor is more like the price point of a $ 15 plate, but this place is double that. It needs an update with a more modern feel. The parking lot is in the back and has limited stalls, so come early. The menu can be confusing at first, but one side of the menu is 3 course and the right side is 4 course. You have the option of ordering a la carte and you can also mix choices from both menus. They do have a bunch of things off the menu, so be ready to be surprised. The food is good. It does meet the price point. I tried the highly recommended chicken dish and was amazed at how perfectly cooked it was. The sauce was subtle and did taste good, but it was still missing something. I think the sauce was too subtle that the dish didn’t have that much flavor to it. I tried a bunch of appetizers and they were all good. We also ordered a bottle of wine with our meal. The desserts were a choice of french desserts or an assortment of cheeses. I think the cheese dessert is better and much more memorable. They offer nuts and fruits to pair with the different cheeses. Café Miro has good food and service(for the most part), but it lacks the ambiance to be a contender with other restaurants within its price range. I didn’t come away feeling disappointed, but I didn’t leave thinking I wanted to come back to try other dishes.

Here it is– a week before your wedding anniversary and you are trying to decide where to take«da boss» to celebrate that special day. «Ok», she says, «any place is fine» but guys, you know what that means: screw up the selection and you’ll never hear the end of it. There is nothing more depressing than hearing your wife say, «the dinner was so/so». I have been married long enough to know that, and I can tell you I’m not batting a thousand. After consulting Unilocal(of course) and speaking with learned local chowhounds, I decided our dinner would be at Café Miro– a higher class restaurant without the pretentiousness, in da Kaimuki hood, with a price point that(while not cheap) will not break da bank. The offerings are framed around a three course prix fixe with multiple choices or a four course chef’s special selections which is somewhat interchangeable anyway. Add the amuse-bouche and you really have a four or five course grouping for each. Confused? The servers(as has been noted by others) are very patient and will explain your options until you are comfortable with your understanding and ultimately your choices. Our evening started with glasses of complimentary champagne to celebrate our anniversary– a classy prelude.(Mahalos Café Miro!) This was followed by the amuse-bouche which was a delightful cup of vichyssoise to cleanse the palate. Our selections? Da wife chose a delicious seafood salad with an orange yuzu vinaigrette and included two prawns, squid, scallops and a mussel, a fresh mahimahi almondine entrée and the chef’s assorted dessert plate. I chose the fresh mozzarella with walnuts and prosciutto salad bathed in a tasty olive oil/vinegar dressing, a small lobster tail appetizer, mini rack of lamb(two pieces) and the assorted dessert plate. We split the lobster tail and exchanged mahimahi and lamb servings to have a true«surf n turf» for each of us. We really enjoyed the preparations and just as importantly, the pacing of the courses. They were quite attentive without being overbearing and this is with a restaurant that was almost completely full by the time we finished. We were served by the dynamic duo of Kelly and Ryan I. — a friendly pair that made it a memorable evening for us. Total time for our dinner, just a smidgin over two hours and we enjoyed every minute of it. Café Miro is definitely a worthy contender when looking for that special dining venue. We’ll definitely be back.

Winding up our trip, we had our last dinner here. With the recent California ban on foie gras, I made a point to have this delicacy at least once while being here. With a fellow ‘foie fan’ arriving on Tuesday, that was the only available evening that we could meet for dinner. My first instinct was to get a reservation at Le Bistro, but unfortunately they are closed Tuesdays. Clicking on Unilocal search, this was the first restaurant to pop up and plus the reviews were pretty favorable. Here’s what I had: Complimentary appetizer 1) Minnestrone soup( ) — Warm soup and free?! How can you say no! Nice perk and start. Shared appetizer 2) Seared foie gras( ) — Shared by our party of three, we enjoyed it, but my travel buddy enjoyed Roy’s a bit more as the sear was harder. First course 3) Seafood salad( ) — Very clean tasting and certainly no shortage of ingredients(prawns, scallops, and mussels). Would order this again. Second course 4) Roasted spiny lobster( ) — Sigh… one of the many reasons to visit Hawaii is its huge variety of seafood. Indigenous to the island, my only other taste of this was at Mitch’s in his sashimi/miso soup omakase menu. If you’re a lobster fan, you should try this. Third course 5) Rack of lamb( ) — Ordered medium rare, mine(and my friend’s) came closer to medium well. The flavor was good, but the sauce overwhelmed it a bit. Probably would have enjoyed it more if it was a little more rare. Fourth course 6) Dessert sampler( ) — The photo says it all, offerings of a little bit of everything. The crème brulee was my favorite of the four. On a rainy Tuesday night, the restaurant was only half filled, mostly with what seemed to be neighborhood locals. The chef came out to greet a few tables, probably frequent diners. With the advent of the number of famous chef restaurants especially in Waikiki(Nobu’s, Roy’s, Morimoto’s, etc.), this doesn’t quite quality as a high-end, schmooze kind of place. There are a few parking spaces in their back lot or, if you time it right, you’ll probably find parking along Waialae. If you’re looking for a place to ‘wow’ out-of-towners, there aren’t many bells and whistles here. But, if you’re looking for a quiet, mellow dinner with above average food, this place is right for you.
