Burt’s Union Service

All right. All right. Hopefully after doing this review, my bad luck will be over.
Within a month, I’ve been here three times, and it wasn’t to gas up. I’ve had a tire puncture on three different tires on separate occasions. The first was my right rear with a screw, then my right rear with TWO metal scraps, but only one was causing a leak, and then my left rear with yet another screw. The screws and nails weren’t particularly long. They were shorter than the length of a fingernail. Maybe these tires are terrible, or the car I’m driving can’t handle (the windshield was cracked from a small debris that hit the edge of the glass…). I am still trying to figure out if it is a specific area or place I drive to that caused these tire punctures.
This gas station is located on Houghtailing/​School Street and is quite easy to get in and out. For a small gas station/​auto repair shop, there seems to be quite a lot of employees. I was immediately greeted and they quickly checked the tire for the leak. On my first visit, they ran out of tire plugs, so I had go buy some myself and comeback. The person who helped was very fast, and it just cost me $ 5 for labor. It’s normally $ 15 with the plug. Sweet! The plugs I bought was a set of three, so I thought I’d just keep it in the car for next time… which I wasn’t expecting to be within a week, and then the week after that… I wonder if it that is why I had three tire punctures. –_​– On second and third instances, I had the same great customer service, and I’m suddenly a regular, or now I’m the guy who gets tire punctures all the time…
Please, please, please let my left front tire survive! Every time I start the car, I am worried of seeing that tire pressure indicator light on.

Amazing service! They are always fast and friendly. We go there to put gas a lot and the guys always check the whole car really fast. The gas is the same price as the station next door, I can’t imagine why people would choose anyplace else

First time here to take care of the annual inspection. Was in and out in about 15 mins around noon on a Saturday without an appointment; can’t get much better than that! Highly recommend.

My trailblazers water pump went bad so I went there today through recommendation from a friend of mine around 10:30 am and spoke to Daniel, he took my car in and told me come pick it up by 5 pm, he called me 4:50 telling me the car is ready to go. I had also some issue with alignment the steering wheel not centered and told him to check and let me know what’s wrong with it, so when i went to pick up my car he raised the car on the jack and moved the wheel with his hands, which not supposed to be that loose but the rubbers was worn off and showed me with flash light and i was WOW no more rubber by the joints, he told me these items has to be replaced and spend time with me and explained that a
s of now i need one upper left arm cover and one lower arm cover left side to replace, that was very nice of him not pushing me to replace 4 of them, but I said please give me 2 estimates replacing the 2 bad and another estimate to replace 4 of them. He said he will check it out tomorrow which is 9÷29÷15 and let me know if i need to decide to replace 2 or 4 of them. I was so happy with the service that done on my car today and waiting for his estimate tomorrow… I recommend this place to people that don’t want to spend arm and leg taking their cars to dealer for repairs with honest mechanic and great service. Awesome customer service! Friendly, polite and honest employees. I needed to get my window fixed because it wouldn’t go down, went to a different auto repair shop at first and they wanted to charge me almost $ 500, so a friend of mine recommended Burt’s Union Service and the total cost AND a safety inspection (I was due for one) was only $ 240! I’m very pleased! Always a busy gas station, but that’s probably because of their awesome services.

Went here to do a full check up and may be do an oil change.
But nope, the service guys here are so honest, they just tell me no need to do oil change yet.
Very nice staff and operates very quickly, you can refuel gas here and have them do a car wash and auto checkups in no time.

Rude and unprofessional… and does nobody speak English? or answer when spoken to?

After calling around nearby service stations to see if they do safety checks on Saturdays (most don’t!) — I found Burt’s, on the corner of Houghtailing and School Streets.
Whoa, busy station! As I pulled up, I had to double-​park behind cars and jump in a 4-​person deep line to wait to get my safety check done at 9:30am on the last Saturday of the month. Worth the ~20 minute wait cause I aint about to take off work to get this stuff done!
As hectic as this station appeared, it was a well oiled machine — everyone knew their place and got customers in and out, and moved and shifted cars around, and pumped gas — it was neat to watch.
The service was quick, painless, and these guys were nice! I can always appreciate hardworking, sweaty workers (haha!) who still manage to smile at their customers and provide great service.
After my sticker was on my bumper, paid ~$ 25 and was about to leave, the older man (Burt?) came out of the office to take a picture of the back of my SUV on his ipad, and explained to me the new safety inspection «pass» paper they issue (no longer those old school carbon copies) that needs to stay in my car at all times with my reg and insurance.
Very helpful and very pleased with the service here! Only downside is the congested lot and tricky parking when it gets busy — but i guess that’s every full-​service station for you.

I will recommend this service station to anyone looking for great & awesome results! I looked for a place to take my car for years Finally a Friend told me about Burt’s. It’s been 10 years later. Darnell is Superb in Service, knowledge, Awesome Customer Service he’s been there for 20 some years… that says something. I recommend Burt’s to everyone! now days you really don’t find an Old School kind a gas station & Auto repair place. it’s usually ALL about the money & don’t give a rip about how you feel about your car. This Station is a 5 star for sure! Burt… you should be proud!

went there because there was a screw lodged in my rear tire. this station is one of the few remaining FULL service stations in town. the guy said it’s in a bad place & a plug may or may not work, but he’ll check anyway. he said it’ll cost $ 15 to do the job. he came back with pliers and a bottle of liquid. he then yanked out the screw (it was a rather short screw), sprayed the liquid on the spot, looked for signs of leaking air. NOTHING. so he said I’m ‘good to go’. WOW! if he was money-​hungry, he would’ve probably charged me to plug the puncture anyways.

Arrived there at 800. I ask for a safety check inspection, told me I was number 3 in line and after waiting over an hour and a half. The guy skipped me and helped another customer. Very bad customer service maybe it’s because it’s runned by a bunch of gramps that are borderline gereatrics and they’re forgetting how to use their customer service skills.

Friendly service even during safety check times. You can trust these guys to give you the real scoop. I get safety checks there all the time because they won’t play around doing things that some other station might that I don’t need. Had a flat and tire change there too. Just put in gas last night and was serviced by a friendly attendant.

As a former worker here, I would have to say that Burts union 76 gas station is one of the few gas stations that has people put the gas for you, and check the condition of your car. Workers are more than happy to check your car if you don’t put gas (tip would be nice). Being a former worker, I’d say the best part of working there was actually having customers become happy and grateful that their vehicle is in safe driving condition.

Used to be my desperation stop when I needed gas when i was at Kamehameha Schools.
Now it’s my go to place for safety checks. Top notch service here.
If you go on a Saturday morning at the end or beginning of the month, you may be in for a wait. Well worth it.

It’s one of my work neighborhood’s gas stations that’s in between where I work and Kamehameha Shopping Center. I normally don’t come here to fill gas, since I normally fill up at Costco since it is cheaper, or somewhere in Kaimuki, where the price is comparable to other gas stations in town. Some will say a penny saved is a penny earned. While that may be true, I can fill up here once in a while and everything would be right in the world. Just like any other gas station across Hawaii, it’s normally a quick entry and exit, unless there is a line of cars and the traffic can be horrendous to the point where you would need to search for another one.
I’m glad I do not drive that much, so I would just need to fill up maybe ever 2 ½ weeks, if even that. I normally catch the bus to work, but sometimes, I just need to drive to work on some days where I just am running very late and need to drive and not be late. The process is very simple to pump gas. There is no middle man to tell you what to do and how much you need to do it. When I want to fill just $ 10 worth of gas, I can do that. I always carry my plastic with me. Very much an annoyance when it’s cash only. The staff here is quite helpful, but all I want to do is fill gas and get on with my life. This is a good place to get gas, but then again, any place that’s cheap enough can be considered good.
Generally speaking, gas stations are a dime a dozen. Very minimal service if all you do is get gas. Maybe I should buy something at their mini mart they have going on, but there is many places to go and Unilocal and I can’t seem to be here on any given day and buy fast food from a gas station, when you can do it at a 7-​Eleven or someplace pretty cooler than a gas station. Just sayin’. This place can be worthy of 4 stars, but it’s good for what it is. Thanks to the other Unilocaler’s reviews since I did not know I could get a safety check here. Good info to know for when my safety check is due, I know where to go and get it renewed…
They also do auto care fixes too, but I have yet to go that route yet.

The employees here have been extremely helpful to me on more than 1 occasion. First of all, they normally charge less for gas than other gas stations, or the same as the stations across the intersection, but they will pump the gas for you. Early this morning (not the first early morning), I was low on air on all of my tires. I went here for help, and the gentleman was more than happy to help. Also at 8 am on a Sunday, was another man who was trying to get help because his giant truck wouldn’t start. There are no auto mechanics there on Sunday, but the kind employees still try to help. Also, when I previously came here for a safety check, the employee couldn’t pass me, but did let me know how bald my tires were & to change it for my own safety. As you can tell, I know nothing about cars, so I’m grateful for the employees here. I don’t even live in Kalihi, but I come here all of the time because of the excellent service that they provide. Thank you 76 station!

This was the 2^nd time I went to this 76 station, and I have not been disappointed. This time a wonderful mechanic named Keith helped me. I have to say, every mechanic there along with the attendants etc., really know what they are doing. Everyone there greets you and makes you feel welcome. The service is outstanding and fast. They never mislead you or charge you for things you don’t need. I have never been to a more honest and friendly station ever! I will never take my car to anyone else.
I wrote another review before, the 1^st time I came across this station. It seems this review did not get posted. But because of the treatment I recieved the 1^st time, I decided to go back. I was informed by 2 other stations of a problem with my car. Each of them telling me my car needed a new water pump. When I took it in to Burt’s station, a wonderful man named Ray helped me. Ray found the correct problem, and fixed my car in less then a day and was kind enough not over charge me. He always informed me of what was needed for my car, and he is one of the nicest individuals you could ever meet. This was the first time I ever trusted a gas station so much. Everyone who works there are professional and courteous.

I would think there was decent service at this establishment although I would not know as I was misinformed. I called for details and things needed to get this thing completed as this place was recommended for a safety check which in my opinion are worthless. I understand the smog test in CA, but a safety check to make sure the windshield wipers work is beyond me… or better yet that the tint is not the right shade. If your friend runs the shop things are all good if not — well then they are not. HAHA, that is Hawaii for you… I hear roll off peoples lips regularly.
Four starts bc I called ahead to make sure that I had all the proper documentation, as this car is from another state. Of course when I drove across town, I was told oh… yeah that is not the case. Wing-​nut is the name I will give to the fellow I spoke to on the phone.
Even though I am a little peeved, I like that there was full service here — AWESOME! The owner had about 6 staff which is awesome, as he is creating jobs in the community. Good place, just frustrated bc my time was wasted… what is new?

This is the only place we go to for our safety checks. They are friendly and work fast to get you on your way. I also took my vehicle here to fix my brakes. They didnt charge for an inspection because I already knew it was my brakes, this saved me $ 100. Other places I called charged $ 100 and up just for this alone.
I have rims that require a key to remove the lug nuts. I didnt realize this because I bought my vehicle second hand and was never given a key. They called me and informed me of the situation. They refused to even try and take it off because they didnt want to ruin my rims. Im guessing there are places that would have destroyed it without a care. I didnt know where to go but the mechanic said to try Ron’s. I went, they matched a key for me and I was back at the shop. I had my vehicle back by lunch… love it!
Warning: this is in a high traffic area so be careful while driving on the lot and also while waiting for your car to be fixed. People drive through to avoid waiting for the light and walk through to get to bus stop instead of walking around. DANGEROUS!
