Blue Nun Sport Fishing

Captian Bob deserves the highest rating possible!
Scheduled a charter with him for my son’s Birthday.
There was a high sea advisory due to weather, and many Captains of OTHER boats still took passengers out.
Captian Bob did the right thing and let us reschedule for another day.
MUCH better than insisting that we go out or forfeit $ for what would have been a rough & windy day out at sea.
Thank you for doing the right thing for my us!

My wife recently booked a shared charter with Bob, To start with Bob over booked (obviously on purpose) but did not in fact tell my wife so when we arrived for our day of fishing we got pushed over to another boat «The Renegade» run by Maggie-​Joe Sport Fishing. All six of us set out expecting a day of fishing and fun, We were sadly mistaken on all counts. 8 hours of sitting inside the cabin or on the bridge, The trip was so boring that at one point all 6 clients were fast asleep out of boredom. I understand that one cannot make the fish bite but when you pass over tuna and other smaller fish but those are ignored throughout the day in favor of a snowballs chance of getting something big… To quote the crew «the biggest fish you’ve ever caught in your life». This amounted to ⁴⁄₆ people not even putting their hands on a fishing pole, 1 skipjack on a lighter rod and then by the grace of someone or something an ono as we were passing the buoys coming back into dock. the other 4 of us did absolutely nothing, had zero fun and for my son and I having the old «bait and switch» pulled on us to fill out another charter. I would definitely not recommend Blue Nun or Maggie-​Joe unless you want to spend $ 200+ for 8 «fun» filled hours of little to nothing, while the captain and mate sit on the bridge and talk to each other.

Second time out with this crew. Both times were e great and this time I bagged me a 300 pound marlin!!! Will definitely recommend if you are in the area and looking for a great day out fishing and relaxing.

My husband had a once in a lifetime experience yesterday on the Blue Nun. Captain Bob and Ray were a great team. They were so much fun to be around but also took their fishing seriously. Since I am new to blue water fishing the debrief that Ray gave us was invaluable.
We caught a lot of fish and a lot of laughs too. In all we caught 7 really good size fish and I caught my largest fish ever a 151 lb Ahi yellowfin tuna.
If we are ever back over they would be on the top of my activity choices!
If you are looking for a fun day on the water, look no further.

What a fantastic fishing experience!
Captain Bob and Ray were fantastic hosts. I was able to catch a 255lb. marlin because of Ray’s excellent teaching and Captain Bob’s coaching. My husband, father-​in-​law, and I all caught a bunch of smaller tuna as well and enjoyed a beautiful day out on the water – from sunrise until we had to get back so we could hop on our cruise ship. We felt like part of the crew as we all pitched in to pull up the marlin. I should also let you know that the Blue Nun is the cleanest fishing boat I’ve seen. I can’t wait to go fishing with them again!

My husband and I went fishing with the Blue Nun. What a great trip! We each caught a nice mahi mahi, plus a ton of smaller tuna. I really like how Bob and Ray let you take control of the poles. We fished for bait too. I am also grateful for the cot on the upper deck when my tummy got a little sea sick. Could not have had any more fun. Bring your Dramamine and your camera!

Short version: Awesome day on the water. Beautiful boat and a great crew. It would have been a wonderful day, even without a fish. Caught a very nice marlin that put on a great show and put up a great fight.
Long version: Captain Bob and his mate Ray are a credit to the sportfishing industry. This is a great boat and these guys put a serious emphasis on customer service. My new bride and I took a ¾ day exclusive charter. From the get-​go these guys were super friendly and informative. I’ve caught a couple billfish before, but Ray’s orientation was the first time I had been given a real lesson on proper big game technique. The lesson would definitely pay off!
My girl started feeling a little queasy not far outside the harbor. It came and went, but she’s a trooper and made the best of the day. The few times she got sick the crew was totally helpful and cordial. As we got further out it got a little choppy, but it’s the ocean and it’s going to swell as it pleases.
It’s little things that make an experience special: I’ve got a little bit of angling experience and I like to help around the boat. Without saying as much, Captain Bob and Ray picked up on this and very politely pointed out things I could do to assist. There were a lot of awesome photo opportunities, and the skipper did a great job helping us document our day. Ray took us down to the auction house with the fish we would eventually catch and we got a behind-​the-​scenes view you wont read about in any travel guide. Little things make a big difference.
We had been out for a few hours and I was sitting somewhere in a corner just nodding off when the reel started screaming. Forgetting the native word they taught us (hanapa’a!) I screamed «FISH ON!» Ray points and there’s a beautiful marlin launching itself out of the water. It leaps and dances for maybe 30 seconds, turns and starts peeling line. I sat down in the chair and tried to relax (unsuccessfully). He was maybe a 25 minutes fight. I probably should have taken him slower and patiently, but adrenaline is tough to resist. We got him up and in the boat, my first Blue Marlin, 150 pounds. As soon as this business was handled, Captain Bob was back on the cruise and itching to get lines back out without hesitation.
These guys are pros. It would have been a beautiful day even without the fish. To add the biggest fish I’ve yet caught makes it a completely unforgettable experience. If I make it back to the island of Oahu I will also be back on this boat. Until then, thanks again!

I am from Florida and have my own boat. We fish every weekend we can, so we could not wait to experience the offshore fishing while we were on our family vacation to Hawaii. After reading the reviews on Unilocal I decided to give the Blue Nun and Capt. Bob a try. I could not have had a better day. I landed a 30+ pound short nosed Marlin. I would definitely recommend this charter to anyone that wants to fish the blue waters of Oahu. I put a short Go-​pro video together of the catch.

The Captain, crew and boat are very nice and clean. I would’ve had a better experience if they would’ve allowed me to eat my own fish on the boat!!! We were staying a hotel so it was impossible to take the 70 lb ahi I caught and had to leave it on the boat.

We had a great time aboard this boat! Don’t let the lack of internet presence fool you about these guys, they know what they’re doing and how to make it great fun! We went with just me and my girlfriend on a shared trip, so all customer’s took a bite out of the charter which made it very affordable. We also took home a BIG chunk of the catch (it was mostly small yellow fin that day, unfortunately) because everyone else was staying in hotels that couldn’t cook it.
Capt. Bob and his crew Ray were the nicest to us that are new to deep sea fishing and took extra care to make us welcome. When it came time to help with fishing lines, Ray was kind and never yelled at us, even when we did something wrong. He was there to help teach and get everyone on their fish! And if we went and laid down (hey, we’re on vacation, gotta nap!), he was quiet as a mouse in the cabin and let us sleep. Capt. Bob lets you up on his bridge and is happy to share his 30+ years of fishing experience. He even took a call while at sea from another fisherman who took another boat yesterday, due to his being full. The fisherman caught his first Marlin and Capt. Bob was so happy for him, he sounded like he caught it on HIS boat with him! That is living Aloha!!!
Great fun and a great crew, I would highly recommend taking this boat for any of your fishing excursions!

I’ve been going fishing with Capt. Bob most of my life. He is a great Captain, and fisherman. There is a reason he has so many repeat customers. he takes the time to get to know his customers and follow up. He does the best any captain can to put you on the fish, but it is fishing. there is a reason it’s not called catching! If you get the chance to go fishing with Captain Bob, and want to have the opportunity to catch all the fish our islands have to offer while making a memory that will last a lifetime look no further.
