I remember coming here when the shop was called 99 Coffee, which was an odd name for this place. But I guess it’s all part of the charm of Chinatown. The shop is physically connected to Kim An Restaurant and shares the same street address. Both are great places(in case you go to the unintended one by mistake.) I enjoy the bún bò huê(spicy beef soup) and phò here, but the bún riêu(crab-tomato soup) is the signature dish. It’s extremely satisfying. The broth is flavorful, balanced, and sophisticated. There’s crab cake, blood cake, tofu, and pig trotters, along with the noodles. The homemade crab cake is the highlight. So good… You get a generous plate of mint, bean sprouts, lemon, and shaved banana blossom & morning glory. Very fresh. They also use«authentic» chilies here(not the jalapeños you get at Subway’s.) You are served a refreshing complimentary glass of iced tea. Big fan of this shop. The people are super nice, and they remember you after a couple of visits.

While the original plan to eat at ToChau for lunch got derailed(because they don’t accept credit cards) we found ourselves in this little hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurant here in dirty Chinatown. OMG the Phở, so good! Diamond in the rough for sure! Top 5 fav Phos ever.

My friend just started to fall in love with bun rieu,(when I saw her over the weekend) We talked about this dish and at the same time, I’ve been wanting to eat this dish badly. We had lunch plans so I knew exactly where to go. Anh Hong, located on North King street. Do not mistaken this place for Kim An, which is located just next door. Exact address, 174 N. King Street. Parking at municipal parking lot, meter parking, or if you dine here on the weekends, free street parking in front of restaurant. Anh Hong is a small and clean restaurant with about 4 tables on both sides of restaurant. I like that, they have restroom available.(it’s very odd to see this in Chinatown) I’ve been here with my mom & sister. They eat here every other week, they love the Bun Bo Hue & Bun Rieu here. They only come here for both of these dishes.(I just knew where to go for our bun rieu) When we arrived, we got a table near the door, besides the menu we got our tea waters, which is another reason why I love this place. I love the tea water, refreshing on a hot day. The waiter was very nice. Service was excellent. Our orders: 2 bowls of Bun Rieu and 1 Bun Bo Hue and my request: steamed bean sprouts.(the waiter remembered!) usually they forget. The bowls comes out piping hot and ready to eat.!! final verdict: we all enjoyed our soups, my friend raved that she could taste the difference from the other 2 restaurants she has been to, She said the Bun Rieu taste better here. I’m glad! Another reason why I love this place, they provide chopped chili peppers. I love me extra spices! They don’t skimp on the veggies. We had lots of mint, water spinach stems, bean sprouts, lemons, & shredded banana flower to go with our soups. What’s Bung Rieu you ask?, it is a Vietnanese crab noodle soup with vermicelli noodles, served with tomato broth with crab or shrimp paste. Along with all the fixings, shrimp, crab loaf, tofu, steamed pork, pig’s blood, pork, water spinach stems, shredded banana flowers, bean sprouts, this is Bun Rieu. Over-all, I enjoyed my soup, my friends enjoyed their orders. I want to go back again, this time for the Hu Tieu Nam Vang.(Clear noodle soup) –another must get here.!! I need to text my friends to see when is our next lunch? 2016 #30/100 Unilocal Challenge

Great Vietnamese food! I’ve eaten here a couple of times and every time I go I try a different dish. Everything is delicious and fresh. We’re always seated quickly and served iced tea, the servers are friendly and efficient, and the food is to die for. Love the meat wrapped shrimp appetizer and the rice soup with pork organs! After visiting Vietnam there and having the food there, this is one of the few places I’ve eaten at on island where the food is comparable.

We only tries bun bo hue while visiting. It’s the best one from all the ones we tries in Washington and California. All five of us agreed it was so goooood we wished there’s one in Washington.

I have tried every Vietnamese restaurant in Town and this is truly the best place for Bun Bo Hue. The noodles selection is amazing. The phở is pretty good too. Fast service. Reasonable pricing.

When in Chinatown for some shopping, I was looking for some good cheap Vietnamese food. I just randomly stopped here, a little hole in the wall. The beef stew was tasty but the cartilage could use more softening… a lot more. And wow it’s crazy expensive… $ 10 for a little bowl. But I couldn’t sneak out. I had a nice cold drink presented before I saw the menu. The service is pleasant and it’s a comfortable spot to hang out. Overall a solid 3.

My Vietnamese mom took me to this place last week… it’s her new favorite when she visits the island. Now it’s mine as well! My mom ordered the Vietnamese wrap(I don’t know the name of it but it’s #16 on the menu) but asked for a combination style(that’s not on the menu… you have to ask for it). It came with lettuce, fresh herbs, grilled beef, pork, and grilled shrimp(shrimp paste wrapped around a sugarcane then grilled). A container filled with hot water was also brought out so you could dip your rice paper in it to soften before wrapping. So to make your wrap: soften the rice paper, add the lettuce, noodles, meat, veggies, herb. Wrap it up and dip into the fish sauce. One plate was enough for the two of us. We also got the Spicy Beef Soup. It comes with a plate of veggies and herbs(like when you order phở). I liked that the plate was stacked with fresh herbs. There were even a couple I didn’t recognize(my mom couldn’t tell me the English name for them). They added a delicious flavor and nice crunch to my soup. Word of warning if you order this soup, besides beef inside it also came with chunks of liver and pigs feet. I just gave those bits to my mom who really relishes that. I’m too Americanized to appreciate that. I’m a bit ashamed to admit that I’m half Vietnamese but don’t speak the language at all. Before we left, I asked the owner Hong to show me how to order everything again so that way if my mom wasn’t with me I knew what to do, lol. She was very nice and helpful. I’ll definitely be back.

Went here when visiting Hawaii & didn’t expect it to be that good but we were suprised! Ordered Bun Bo Hue, Hieu Tieu Kho, and Phở Bo. It was all really good & flavorful & the plate of veggies is so fresh! But the only downfall is we came kind of early so service was so slow. We had to get our own menus and stuff & rush them. & it wasn’t hot but it was really flavorful. Definitely recommend! GOHERE! We went back to get banh mi for the airport & they were really friendly & remembered us! A+ for customer service! It was quick, and worth the money.

I have to say that they make some great Bun Bo Hue here! It’s a place that Mink and I dine at very often because the food always comes out hot and mouth watering good. She likes the shredded pork rolls and summer roll here as either her main course or appetizer. If she goes with soup, she likes to get the wonton mein with no calamari and extra fish cake. They are very good at accommodating her substitution. I always get the Bun Bo Hue here because it’s one of my favorite in Honolulu. They give you a large plate of fresh vegetables to add to your soup which is awesome. One unique item they give is little chili peppers to help add spice to your soup if you like it extra spicy! Parking is very easy with all the parking options of garage or street. It’s very close to downtown and near the bus stops as well. The place is clean and we really like the tea water beverage they serve everyone. It’s a nice and refreshing difference from other restaurants.

Lovely family run business. The best crab soup EVER. All the food is good but that crab soup has me craving it all the time. They are located on the mountain side of King Street almost down to the river. Mother cooks, daughter serves. Sweet. Nice. Always a treat to go.

FIRSTTOREVIEW?!! How is this possible? This place has been here for 6 months! How do I know you ask? Well let me tell you a funny little story. On my very special(read: lazy) day off today, I was updating some Unilocal reviews and noticed a ROTD about an off-the-beaten-track Vietnamese place that rocks on Bun Bo Hue. Sure I’ll check it out, what else is there to do today? Plug address into map app, drive, park, walk. How hard is this? Walk in and sit down, get a menu. Look for some Chicken Rice and Bun Bo Hue. No chicken rice. hmmm. Weird. «Everyone on Unilocal loves it, is Unilocal wrong?» Flip the menu over. Anh Hong. «Hm… weird, did they change owners? Excuse me, did you change names?» «6 months ago we took over.» Ok whatever, maybe Unilocal is having an off day. OK well they have the Bun Bo Hue, we’ll take that. EFFINGAWESOME. So nice. The pigs blood was nice and tender, not over cooked. Beef was super soft and had nice gelatinous pieces of tendon. Huge side plate of galanga, mint and chiles to boot. Chewy rice noodles. YES. OK fast forward to the end of the meal, pay with card, chat with staff and leave. Only to look to my right as I exit and I see what I was originally looking for… DERRRR. 2 restaurants, 1 building, similar address and similar themed menus. What’s a guy to do? Well the only thing logical, and I walked right into the next place and ordered another bowl of Bun Bo Hue. I have to say, Ahn Hong has them beat.
