Holiday Inn Birmingham – Homewood

Absolutely no communication beforehand that this place is under construction. Very disappointing and an inconvenience. Obnoxious fire alarm went off bc of construction — horrible. They should at least offer a discount!

Room was decent, typical Holiday Inn. The bed was very comfortable and I love it when a hotel gives multiple pillow options. The main floor (lobby, restaurant, bathrooms) and outside appear to have been updated recently but I don’t think they have gotten to the 5^th floor yet because the carpet was old and dirty. Noise… You could hear people in the hall and other rooms VERY clearly and one couple even thought we all needed some interesting Saturday morning entertainment. ;) The staff was not overly friendly and didn’t seem to like therir jobs but they did help when prompted. The restaurant was a different story… horrible. The waitress was friendly but extremely forgetful and flighty. We were told they normally have a buffett but there was only one breakfast option on the morning we were there (informed after we had sat down and ordered drinks). That option was ok but not really what we wanted and the coffee was lukewarm. The coffee in the lobby was not much different except that it was often empty. There are several eateries around and I would suggest trying those over the hotel’s. Overall, the hotel is not awful and the price was one of the best in the area. Not bad if you are just looking for a place to crash for the night.

This could be one of the worst places I’ve stayed in a while. The wallpaper is coming off the wall. There are big dents in my door from where it looks like it was kicked in. The toilet paper holder is coming off. The fridge is broken in my room. There’s no ice bucket, which makes sense since the ice machine doesn’t work. The vending machines were pricey and sold out. The hallways were at least 85 degrees or worse. The décor is a strange and creepy brown combination. I literally texted my friends upon arrival that I could see being killed here. Keep the deadbolt and any additional lock on!

Needs updating. You can hear adjacent rooms. Housekeeping was kind enough to leave us half used shampoo and conditioner. Beds have a nice dip in the middle for you to nestle into. Would not recommend.

The rooms are a bit small, but comfy. They put a range of pillows on the bed, which I appreciate, because I prefer firm pillows. The internet is slow. The front-​desk help was consistently friendly and reliable. The rest of the help, well… they forgot to clean our room on one of three days! Oops!
So, basically it’s a mixed bag. We got a good rate, so we won’t complain too much. It’s fairly convenient to downtown Birmingham.

First time staying in a Holiday Inn in about 20 years. This property was listed as Holiday Inn & Suites. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly. Arrived very late on Christmas Eve. The king size bed in our room was deeply sunken in the center. Room also had a strange odor. We changed rooms the next morning. Although the bed wasn’t sunken, it still wasn’t very comfortable. We noticed that the lighting was quite dim in both rooms. After noticing the condition of the carpet in the hallways, I wondered if the dim lighting in the rooms was intentional. Two rooms on the floor seemed to have been left unmade. Bed linens were on the floor and television was on in both rooms. Doors to both rooms were open half a day and all night and we noticed each time we passed them. Housekeeping staff sprayed quite a bit of my husband’s cologne. I don’t think they expected us to return so soon after they made our bed but it was obvious the cologne had just been sprayed. I had passed a male room attendant when as I got off the elevator and noticed that he wore the same cologne as my husband. There are renovation signs in both elevators but I saw no signs of any work being done. I do not recommend this hotel for the price. It’s listed as a 3 star but certainly does not me the standard to be classified as such, in my opinion.

Decent hotel. Newer property, very clean. Staff seemed fairly nice.
Rooms were clean, and of decent size. Nice lobby area. (Was here around Halloween– it was very nicely decorated!)
In an area that feels safe.
Negative points are for:
— Our room was supposed to come with breakfast vouchers, which we did not receive. (We got them later, but it took a bit of time.)
–Food at the breakfast bar really wasn’t very good (and it usually is, at the Holiday Inn!)
–Despite prior instructions, one member of our party’s credit cards were charged when they weren’t supposed to be! (The staff did take care of it after, but, still!)
Really good property, but a couple of improvements would be helpful! Would probably stay again, though, based on the area it’s in.

I never thought I would say this, the the Ribeye steak at this Holiday Inn was pretty great.

I had a reservation guaranteed for late arrival at this hotel. Upon arrival, the front desk clerk informed me that they had sold my room, and they were sold out. I provided my reservation information, indicating I had a guaranteed reservation. The clerk told me I did not have a room, regardless.
To add insult to injury, I received a cancellation email, indicating my card would be charged for one night. After speaking with three customer service agents, I was told I would get an explanation email from the hotel and my card would not be charged. I was also told I would receive a follow up call from customer relations. Neither has occurred.

Front desk staff is very friendly. We were on the fifth floor. The elevator would work on the way up, but if we pressed the call button it would not work until the second day. That was minor. We just walked down to the fourth floor and pressed the call button, or walked the stairs to the lobby. It’s not like most of can’t use the extra walking. It was just unexpected.
The floor and the room had a musty odor. The hotel is in need of updating. The room, carpet, bathroom, etc., shows it’s age.
It’s not the worst place I’ve ever stayed in, but it’s not somewhere I’d actively seek out if there were rooms available somewhere else.

Worst hotel experience ever. The hotel itself isn’t bad and I assume that people who stay in 3 star hotels are pleased. However, having a front desk clerk try to insist that I stay in a room with visible white flakes on the bed throw rates this place as a 1 star establishment. I checked in late, after flying in from New York. Entered the room, walked over to the bed and the throw was covered with what appeared to be dandruff or dead skin, something disgusting. I immediately called the front desk and the clerk said, «oh, sorry, but unfortunately we’re completely booked so I can’t move you.» In spite of such ignorance, I remained calm and informed her that there was no way I was sleeping in a bed that was clearly dirty. I asked to speak with the manager on duty and she said there was no manager available. We went back and forth for a few moments, with her insisting that the hotel was full and because I had reserved my room through a third party site – first initial beginning with «P» –she couldn’t release any rooms until after 1:00 a.m. I informed her that I have worked in the hotel industry and there is no such thing as «completely booked» and she needed to contact a manager at home if needed because it is unheard of to insist that a guest sleep in a dirty room. I also informed her that I would be lodging a complaint with said third party site and taking photos of the dirty bed. Suddenly, she located a room and was able to move me. Under normal circumstances, I would have just left and found a different hotel, but it was close to midnight, I had worked all day, caught a flight from LGA after work, rented a car at BHM and then spent an hour trying to find this place because it’s the last hotel on Wildwood Circle and GPS doesn’t quite get it right.
The story doesn’t end with the dirty bed. After moving to the new room I was unable to access the internet with the code she had given me. I tried several times with no success. I called the front desk to confirm the code and she didn’t answer the phone. After no less than 20 rings, while the phone was still ringing, I called the hotel directly from my cell phone and she answered on the first ring! I said, «sweetie, I can’t believe you refused to answer the phone when I called from my room. Yes, this is the guest in room such and such, calling from my cell.»
I have been using that third party booking site to bid on rooms for over 10 years, all over the U.S. from the West Coast to the East Coast and in between and have never had a problem until last night. I’ll stick to 4 star properties in the future and Holiday Inn definitely needs to retrain some of their staff on customer service.

I stay at IHC hotels all over the south. This is one of the better ones I’ve experienced. The furnishings feel new, not just updated. The restaurant is reasonably priced, though I did not actually eat there. The beers were cold at the bar. The work out room is what you expect from a hotel of this size (small). Minus a star for the dead TV in my room, though not a real big deal to me.
As a Priority Rewards Platinum Elite guest, I usually get some sort of special treatment, a bottle of water or free cocktail; not so much here. Either way, I’ll be staying here again soon.

The location is decent and the room was clean. There are a lot of chain restaurants in the area. If you like Lone Star, Outback and Chili’s you will be in good shape. You will have to drive a little to find a decent place such as Full Moon Bar-​B-​Que. The bed was horrible. It sagged in the middle as if they filmed «My 600 Pound Life» on it. We should have switched rooms, but were too tired to ask. The bottom line is we should not be faced with that decision. The bed is kind of important with respect to the room. To be sure, it is a key element.
The restaurant and bar in the hotel looked vacant (we stayed on a Saturday night) as if it were closed despite being arguably open. That said, the hours are limited as well. The founder of this hotel chain has attached his namesake «KEM» (Kemmons Wilson) to is as well. They might want to market a little bit and liven it up a bit. We did not eat there, but the prices are in line with a hotel of this stature.

The staff at this Holiday Inn are exceptional! The rooms are awesome, and the location is great. All I can say is — absolutely recommended! Again, excellent service and great rooms!
