H&R Block

Let me set the stage… our appointment was for a Friday. We get a call rescheduling our appointment for the following Tuesday (this was an automated voicemail). I called back and rescheduled the appointment for the original time for the Friday. Two days later the receptionist calls to confirm the Friday appointment. On Thursday, again the receptionist calls to reschedule the appointment from Friday at 8am to 11am. By now I know the writing is on the wall and we never should have kept the wretched appointment. When we physically arrived at H&R Block we are told by the receptionist we will have to reschedule because the tax preparer is not there. I was so irritated after the phone rodeo they led us on with the appointment and now this? So the receptionist goes into a little cubby and I assume talks to the manager, who informs her (but also speaks loud enough so that we can hear), «she is on her way down from FLL airport and it is not yet even 11am!» I admit we were there early — about 15 minutes. So we decide to wait. 11am comes and goes. 11:10 comes and goes. 11:20 comes and goes. It was after 11:30am when she finally arrived. She goes into a long monologue about why she’s late. On a human level, I feel compassion because she came from a funeral but on a professional level she never should have came into work if she «hadn’t slept all night». She is visibly shaken & I point blank ask her, «are you going to be able to do our taxes today?» I know our taxes are not easy and will require more than a person who can just tap a computer key. She assures us that she’s capable but 2 hours and 40 minutes later, my husband and I have lost all faith in her and walked out. During those 2 hours and 40 minutes, she was interrupted more than 10 times, she answered her phone about 5 five times, she left us sitting there to go bother a handicapped employee more than 3 times. She said she would call me back the following day and have answers for us. Do you think she called? Nope. Do I expect her to call. Nope. And it’s ok with us… we are looking into a private tax preparer who actually knows tax law. Unless you are filing single, with no complications do not subject yourself to the ass clowns at H&R Block. Time is too precious!
