Charming piece of Hawaii from years gone by. Owners are super friendly and make awesome cookies. A must stop.

Delightful. A grocery store. A history museum. A step through the time machine. And cookies. Oh, the cookies. Lovingly restored general store. Basic groceries. Hawaiian art. Local goods. Vintage design t-​shirts. And cookies. Did I mention the cookies? Don’t tell anyone about this sweet spot. I want it to always feel like a
secret.

Tired of the tourist crowds? Take yourself up to this sweet little place, a step back in time to simpler days! The store has been lovingly cared for as a living museum — including the little office at the back, looking as if the owner just stepped out around 1953. If you have older relatives who remember the 30’s, 40’s or 50’s, whether in Hawaii or elsewhere, they will enjoy seeing the shelves partly stocked with things they used to own, now displayed as mementos of a by-​gone era.
The women who work there are friendly and fun to talk to — I wish we’d planned to be there to have lunch, hang out on the lanai or on the front porch and «talk story.»
Buy some local produce, or some coffee beans grown on site — pick up a t-​shirt or a mug, buy some cookies, keep this place going!

We needed some fresh cookies, so we got some! Made right at the shop, good times!

What a cute and historic place!
I’ve driven past this little store a number of times so after going to the nearby dump we decided to stop and check out the Keauhou Store and I’m so glad I did.
Trixie, a very nice young woman, waited on us explaining the history of the place which was really interesting.
There are so many cool things to look at so I left after buying a couple of tee shirts, a mug, Kona Chips, a soda and some really GREAT homemade cookies.
I highly recommend stopping in if you happen to drive by this great old Hawaiian store, I will definitely come back for some more cookies! Also the tee shirts are really great with wonderful vintage and retro style graphics.

Loved this little store off the beaten touristy strip of Kailua Kona. The owners and their dog, Sake are friendly and eager to share the history of this renovated store. Great local souvenirs to take home: handmade soaps, passion fruit preserves, tshirts and coffe/​Mac nuts (of course). What brought us back a second time were the delicious freshly baked cookies. Don’t miss it if you are in Kona!

Funny, I stumbled upon this gem in Kona on my way to the local dump. Our vacation home is about a mile away and saw this place to grab a soda.
A must for both locals and tourists. This place takes you back in time. This store has been lovingly restored. Kurt and Thea did a wonderful job. They are warm and genuine, even Sake makes you feel at home.
I bought a couple of shirts which has the store logo to remind me of the rich history of this store and the couple who were just beaming with pride as they show you around the store — including a peek at the Sasaki family office and photos. I think the prices of the shirts are reasonable and they are of good quality (nothing like the ABC store crap). Check out the post cards, posters, bikes, records, totes, and unique novelty items.
Don’t forget to buy the cookies. They are the best! I tried the choc chip and will come back to buy the others when I return.

When was the last time you visited a general store with those adjectives?
This is one part museum and one part mom-​and-​pop general store.
Originally built in 1919, it had been closed for last several years.
It was cleaned up and re-​opened in 2011 by the new owner, and what a transformation, and what a restoration!
Yes, you can buy groceries, snacks, and wines. But why stop there? You can also buy a sense of history here — for free! Browse the «museum» section of the store where you can see and feel the history of early 20^th century Hawaii and Kona as experienced by a Japanese immigrant family.
You can stop by on the way to the Volcano or neary-​by coffee farms and touch the «old Hawaii.» You can buy Keauhou Store brand coffee and T-​shirts, too.
Don’t forget to say «Hi» to Sake, the store mascot.
The store is closed on Sundays.
