History

Established in 2002.

After many years of working in hair salons throughout LA, Nico felt a great need to be able to cater to clients with a more unique service, he decided to create a work space out of his town home apartment away from the typical busy salon and business hours set backs to be able to pay more attention to detail and good hair work, shortly after a few years this concept gave Nico’s studio the label of «LA’s Best kept little secret», His passion for doing hair is so great that in 2010 he decided to take it to the next level relocating to an exclusive NY style loft/​suite situated in one of the most renowned and historic city blocks in Los Angeles, on the walk of fame.

Nico trained at The Vidal Sasson Academy, one of the world renowned schools of beauty in the city of Santa Monica, CA. He continued his quest for style perfection and he venture to New York City were he learn to master the art of color at the L’Oreal Institute.

A native Puerto Rican, Nico has always had a flare for high fashion, style and design. After his 5 years residence at «Blow Out» star Jonathan Antin’s exclusive West Hollywood salon, Nico shaped his own name in this fast growing, most competitive industry demonstrating his drive for perfection and style. His talent have been spotlighted on the CW’s episodes of «Plain Jane» CBS’s «The Dr. Phil Show» and CNN’s «Larry King Live» where he was able to demonstrate his craft to millions of viewers throughout the U.S.

I was attending a red carpet event for Sony in Hollywood and Nico did such a fabulous job helping me get ready! He was more than happy to match a photo of the look I wanted, was detailed, friendly and I felt beautiful all night. I got a lot of compliments on my hair — thanks, Nico! On top of it all, he is such a sweet person. If you want to look your best, go see Nico!

Nico is the real deal. By that I mean he’s professional, experienced, client-​oriented and talented. He’s a senior level or expert stylist who cares about precision cutting. For those not in the know, without a good cut, your hair will not cooperate however great a stylist leaves you looking out of the salon. He’s also considerate, conservative (will not wack off your hair frivolously) and the best part does not use your appointment as a therapy session (for you or him). I can’t recommend him enough. Check him out in his dope studio.

I don’t really post Unilocal reviews unless a business or experience is truly memorable. Nico is AMAZING. As someone who gets terrible anxiety before, during, and after a haircut, I was nervous to try someone new. I caved based on other positive Unilocal feedback, and I am so so so glad I did. Nico is calming while simultaneously very passionate about his craft. I came in with an idea of what I wanted, and Nico made it work best for my hair texture and face shape. He was encouraging and supportive, and I walked away with arguably the best haircut of my life — I wasn’t even anxious during the actual cut because the atmosphere of his studio is very relaxing and because Nico gives off a very trustworthy energy. I finally found someone I trust with my hair because he respects his clients, as well as the art of hair-​cutting. A+++++++++

So where do I start? Nico is very friendly very nice really takes his time to try to find what hairstyle looks best for you. Other places u try to show them a video or a picture they look at it for couple seconds to say yeah I’ll do that I’ll do it but at the end when you see the picture or the video and you see your hair nothing the same. With Nico he’ll look at the video and/​or the picture he’ll study it with you and he’ll let you know what can and can not be done. If you don’t know what kind of style you want to go for or your trying to find something new that fits you he is the guy to see. Thanks nico

Nico is fantastic! I always feel special when I go to get my hair cut and I believe he makes a point to create this feeling with all of his customers. It’s not the type of place to get rushed in and out of, it’s a more leisurely experience where you talk and enjoy the time you’re there. My cuts always look great and, more importantly, are long lasting. He dyes my roots as well and excellently matches the colors. So if you’re looking for a relaxing day at the salon with beautiful results, then I strongly recommend Hair by Nico.

Nico is a great cutter! I came in for a graduated bob and he did an amazing job. He’s very thorough with his cuts and only uses small scissors.
Finding the place is a little tricky but he sends you directions when you make your appointment so make sure to read them.

I had a short pixie type cut that had been bleached but was brassy and yellow. I went to Nico to try and go platinum blond/​white. He spent so much time on me making sure we didn’t damage my already bleached hair. He did a full set of highlights and trimmed my hair. This was the best hair experience I have ever had and my hair is perfect now! I highly recommend him thank you Nico!!!

I’m pretty particular with the kind of haircut I get and going to Nico was a risk for me, but I am amazed with the kind of cut he provides. He goes into the details of what you want and cuts really well. I’ve had my stylist back in Manila for about 13 years already and now, I know where to go when I’m in LA. Superb service! I loved my salon time with Nico! I truly appreciated his patience with me as I (of course) got confused trying to find his salon despite his very clear and detailed directions in his confirmation email. His salon is cozy and nicely decorated. I went in for a hair dye job, as I have been going red for over a year now and my normal stylist’s job didn’t make me 100% happy with the color (after several tries). So, Nico to the rescue! He did an amazing job on the color of my hair, it was beautiful and very natural looking. I am beyond pleased!

I so wanted to love this hairstylist after all those raving reviews, but to be honest it was a nightmare!!!
I booked my appointment for CUT and COLOR and truly it was a mess. the guy freaked me out, after he panicked while the chemicals of hair color were on my head. he started to wipe the stuff off my hair and after some minutes, he mumbled «that is a freaking nightmare» my hair turned green, the grey did not cover, so he washed it out in huge hectic… which made me truly nervous… well to spare you the entire nightmare story… I was there for 6 freaking hours, till he fixed the mess… telling me he was not a colorist!!! I told him, you booked me in for CUT and COLOR !!! he truly wanted to tell me, that all of this is my own fault. my hair looks much too dark and horrible, has all kinds of weird shades. I got an ear infection and a rash on my neck and behind both ears. I have to wait till this is healed and then I can go somewhere else to get this fixed. I am truly upset. and no !!! I would not recommend this place to anyone ever !!!

After moving around a lot over the last few years I have had to grasp at straws to find a good stylist. I haven’t had a good haircut in a while and had chalked it up to getting older and my hair not doing what it used to do. I moved to Hollywood recently and gave Hair by Nico a try. I have to say he has renewed my faith in hair stylists! It is exactly the way I wanted it to turn out and I am thrilled! I’ve only written a handful of Unilocal reviews, but Nico’s is definitely worth writing about. I’d give him 10 stars if it were an option!

I only trust Nico to mess with my hair. I’m anal and picky when it comes to my hair. I like my hair long. I also like a weird ombré color in my hair.
He is so good when it comes to color. I don’t feel like my hair is damaged as much as other friends that go to other salons. Nico makes you comfortable. He assures you that he understands what you are describing. My hair always comes out just the way I want it.
He is a bit expensive but in my opinion he’s totally worth it.

You get what you pay for!!!
I am a guy… and as a guy I have never paid over $ 40 for a haircut. I have never felt I needed to… until I got my hair cut by Nico! Wow! Nico is hands down the best I have ever had. What makes his hair cuts worth it is how long I can go after my cut. Typically, I need to get a haircut ever 6 weeks. I found myself going 3 months when Nico would cut my hair. You pay more going with Nico… but I find that it all balances out due to being able to go twice as long without another cut.
Another thing I like is how passionate Nico is about hair and making sure you are 100% satisfied. He always wants me to know that if there is something about my hair that I don’t like once leaving, that I always come back and he will fix it.
Nico is worth every penny!
