Chocolada Bakery & Cafe

The desserts are great, they have a lot of variety. My only complaint is the service, it is too slow, and they do not seem to care. The waitresses are usually nice, but they take forever to take a dessert out of the display and get it to your table. It’s not as if they have to make it. it’s right there! They surely need better management.

As someone in the business I tend to be very understanding; However, I’ve lost my patience with this place. The servers are rude, snobby and the service is extremely slow. I’ve been on multiple different occasions and each time it’s taken 10 minutes just to receive a coffee and never without attitude from the server. If you’re in a hurry, or want friendly service then I don’t recommend chocolada. The only good thing about this place is it’s convenient location & it’s cheap.

This Hollywood bakery and café has been here for years and never disappoints when it comes to desert. Bring it home for a special occasion but it’s actually good for any occasion because the deserts are that good here. Huge variety. Amaretto mocha roll, chocolate mousse, meringue cake, Napoleon, eclairs and on and on. They have plenty of sitting outside and at night they have live music. Always packed at night with people not only having desert but having dinner as well. I ate here once it wasn’t bad but the sweets make it worth while to come here anytime.

If this bakery/​restaurant is known for its deserts then they need to hire a new baker. Deserts were not fresh or good. Try somewhere else.

try the square pancakes, they are addicting. fluffy and soft served with fruit compote and syrup.

only had breakfast here, with the expected menu items, service was fine, food was homestyle, but the pancakes were just so awesome… got them like 5 days in a row. our office became addicted to the pancakes.
nice location to people-​watch and even on warmer days, you still get the beach breezes and feel comfortable and relaxed. staff and service are just fine. no complaints. menu is not extensive but plenty of choices. you can bring kids or well-​behaved dogs. my dog would never last 5 minutes without trying to sit on a chair and be served a full meal of people food.
enjoy, it’s a nice placer to go, you feel like you are on vacation.

This indoor bakery & outdoor café is right in the middle of the up & down Hollywood Blvd entertainment/​dining district. They have some great real estate w/​nice cozy out door seating by creating a little oasis, w/​late night live entertainment. Several complaints about slow & rude service, which can depend who is serving you unfortunately. Caution Gratuity is automatically added to the bill ! (Is that still legal ?) The deserts & some of the food are VERY good. Some of the rave reviews, are about the breakfast items served till 4pm daily & Good onion soup, but the start of the show are the fabulous desserts. I had the Dantela a slice of White & Chocolate Mouse & cake & it was delicious. So many scrumptious choice’s, I must visit more! Late at night can be a parking PIA.

I normally come here for the desserts which are awesome but the one night I came here I didn’t like it. They had the entertainment music and I sat outside and the waitress told me the minimum order had to be $ 10 per person which I never heard before. She then pressured me into buying a ton of other stuff I didn’t want just to make their «minimum». Not cool for telling the customers they must order 10 per person. The customer should order whatever they want and not have a minimum.

Terrible. Writing my first Unilocal review after having an account for 3 years, simply because other customers should know how atrocious the service is here — especially towards a LOCAL! (Previously I have only used my account to locate places to eat, drink, etc.)
Feeling up for a walk and some coffee, I grabbed my dog and walked a few blocks to Chocolada, only to be greeted with a look of disgust, from who I presume was the owner of the place, after requesting an outside table. I have seen MANY people with dogs at the café so I wasn’t sure of the issue, besides possibly a distaste of dogs in general. After sighing and shaking his head, I was seated and began waiting for a waitress. And waiting. And waiting. AND WAITING. During my waiting, I saw three other customers seated and served! Was it the fact that I was a single patron? That I had brought a dog? My flip flops, shorts, and band tee?!?
After tying to be as patient as possible, I attempted to flag over the «owner», who saw me waving my hand and IGNORED ME. Thinking I was losing my mind, I got up to walk over and he quickly WALKED INSIDE.
At a loss, I pull out my phone and make sure I don’t have a obscene gesture tattooed on my forehead that I had forgotten about. Nope. I’m good.
At this point, I’m able to flag over a waitress, who doesn’t understand that it’s just me. Do other people not go out alone over? For coffee? On a Sunday morning?!? She advises someone will be over to take my order… and the waiting game begins again. The place isn’t even busy for a Sunday… and I should also mention it isn’t my first time there (I’m also one that is always patient, polite, and tips well)
After waiting 20 minutes, I finally stand up, scoot my chair back, and proceed to leave. A few customers seated by me verbalized their own shock at the terrible service, and my pup Finley whined his agreement. We then walked over to Bistro 1920 for some great coffee, French toast, and hospitality.
WILL NEVER EVER GIVE MY MONEY OR RECOMMENDATION TO CHOCOLADA AGAIN!
The one star is for reminding me that I can be a bigger person and dig deep down for the restraint to not flip over my café table in a fit of rage.

We found this little place near Arts Park while walking. The first time we stopped in we had a French pastry and cold drink. The waitress was very nice and the French pastry delicious. Looking at the wonderful menu we decided we had to make this a regular spot to eat.
Our second visit was yesterday.
I had a lunch/​breakfast. Eggs Benedict florentine with home fries and coffee. It was delicious. My husband had a burger and fries. He said his burger was cooked perfect, he asked for med. well. The fries were crispy.
My coffee came in a huge cup with a free refill. Best coffee ever, smooth.
This is a locals hangout and gets busy, I can see why. We will be back often. The service was a little slow but I can see why. I cannot say enough about the staff. Extremely busy but always nice and thoughtful, and efficient.

I came here because I wanted to come here and wanted to bring my cousins … From sunny isle I drove to come here under the rain and show them «chocolada» It was 10:50 — on Unilocal and Google map I saw they were open. I arrived there and they told me «sorry we are closing» and didn’t let me in just because it was raining. Thank you I won’t come never again and I won’t bring anyone anymore .!

I came for a lunch baby date with Joy L.
I came to the counter the girl told me to sit where I want. I asked her the same question I ask most — if she «recommended anything» and she asked me to repeat myself a few times, and that is frustrating and a pet peeve of mine. To think, they are in customer service and I can’t communicate :(
The waitress was friendly and attentive, again lost in translation at times.
My Cortadito coffee (a Cuban espresso and milk) was good (thank you Joy L. such a treat) they had a little soft cookie beside it.
We decided to have lunch elsewhere to change up the vibe.

This place is just ok at best. Ordered a couple of desserts and they didn’t taste fresh. What a shame. The wait staff seem so nice. If this place was located anywhere else it probably would not stay in business. It’s ok for a late night dessert but not a place I would return.

I love Hollywood downtown and their little stores and restaurants. Chocolada is a great find! This Latin bakery has a good and cheap breakfast! Their options vary from the scrambled eggs through eggs Benedict with omelettes in between! They all come with nice home-​fries. They also have different sandwiches to choose from. Their drink selections are also vast. I opted for their café con leche, it was good and it went well while enjoying their outside sitting.
Their service is pretty fast and the servers are nice. Because their simple menu they don’t have to elaborate much. They are always busy, which indicates that they are local favorite. From bikers to families you have all groups enjoying their food.
It’s a great way to start your day and enjoy some beach time after that!

European style desserts. We asked the waitress if the rum sponge cake style dessert was warm, she said yes. It was served stark cold! We called her back and asked her why it wasn’t warm and she says «how can it be warm if it is in the freezer?!» Wow! I’m guessing there was a language barrier. She sent the manager over who gave us an attitude as well. He repeats what she said and practically yells at my husband rather rudely. We were rather appalled. I mean, we asked her was it warm and she said yes. If she didn’t understand, she should have said she didn’t understand. Not simply agree and bring the dessert. Totally dampened a nice night out at the café.
The 2 of 5 is for the passion fruit dessert. It was rather tasty!

I was excited when I walked past this place after dinner. This is the one thing missing from back home, a cute dessert café open late at night. Outside tables were all full with people having dessert and coffee and the inside was busy also. I wanted to get back so I opted for a tiramisu to go. It was good but not great. It needed more lady fingers because it was a lot of marscapone. But not bad, I think I’d go back and see what their speciality is.

I had plans to meet with my family there. I drove from Miami to see them, in the mean time, they had already arrived and while waiting, they ordered a drink.
When i got there, the manager refused to add a table because my family had already consumed.
What kind of manager turns down customers?
The place was 20% full. I was ashamed by the lack of hospitality and terrible customer service this place has to offer.

Let me start with this wasn’t my first time here.
The kids meal of chicken fingers is huge and a great value.
I had the chicken cordon bleu, one of my favorite dishes. It was alright. I won’t order it again. My guest had some type of fish wrapped in pastry. He liked it. There was a stuffer mushroom appetizer special it was just ok. The others in the group ordered empanadas and adult chicken fingers. They enjoyed.
The 2 best things for the evening was the live music and the desserts. Both were worth the visit to the restaurant.
The waitress spilled dressing on me and gave me the little cookie in the photo. It was outstanding and so was she. Very thoughtful and attentive.

I celebrated my bday brunch here with a friend. I personally like to sit inside restaurants instead of outside. Their inside seating is limited. And seemed a bit messy. They were packed for a Sunday and seemed like a local favorite spot as well as many tourists dining there.
No problem, we sat outside and surprisingly it was nicely shaded with a huge umbrella. The tables are small in size or maybe we ordered a lot, not sure.
I ordered spinach and cheese omelette and it was very good with potatoes and toast. The sizing was perfect and I finished it up. Also the pricing is super decent: it was 4.50 I believe. My friend ordered a veggie omelette and that was good as well (of course I tasted it). My good friend Sehar ordered orange juice and said it was freshly squeezed. I enjoyed their cold ice coffee as well.
The real MVP were the desserts. Their desserts are delicious and they have many choices. They have chocolate mousse, raspberry cake, fruit tarts, tiramisu, and so much more. We ordered a chocolada dessert which had chocolate mousse and sort of a brownie, it was decadently amazing. We ordered one each since they are small sized desserts. Also we ordered a raspberry mousse cake, which made my birthday nice and sweet! Surprisingly I couldn’t finish my desserts off and brought some home for Sam. He tried them a good three hours later and couldn’t stop complimenting about them. He enjoyed them as well.
This is a nice and casual place which makes you realize how good our local cafes are. The service was very good and our server was very nice and attentive. I plan to take Sam here soon unless I continue to bring him leftover desserts only.~

I really hate to give bad reviews, specially when the food in the restaurant is delish, but what good is food alone without an equally great customer service!!!
My husband and I went here for desert after our dinner. I was sooo excited because I had wanted to come here for a while and never got the chance to do it. The moment you walked in, you are received with two huge pastries vitrines, all equally mouth watering. After about 5 mins we finally decided what we wanted and got in line to order and sit down. When we got to the cashier she told us to sit down and wait for a waitress because had to order from a waitress if we wanted to eat there… Ok that sounds fair enough.
We proceeded to sit down and after numerous waitress walking by us, one finally stopped and asked if we had been helped. We told her no, and told her we only wanted dessert. Her attitude immediately changed when I told her that. So we ordered 2 pastries and she said the min we had to spend in order to pay with a card was $ 10. I looked at the menu and ordered a coffee since I saw it was $ 2, i asked her to double check with her if that price was accurate, she said «i don’t know» and walked away. We then waited 15 minutes for our order to arrive. I know that doesn’t sound like a long time, but when all she had to do was take 2 pastries out of the cooler and put in in a plate it is a little bit too much. By the time she brought the dessert, my husband was really upset and ready to walk out.
Anyhow, we finished and she brought us the check and when I looked at it, we clearly did not have to order that coffee because the pastries alone were $ 10! I understand the more money you spend the bigger the tip, but when you are shady and make me spend more money on something I do not need to, you as a waitress will not get anything from me.
I really feel bad giving such horrible review to this place because their pastries are really amazing, but when you as a client are treated bad because you «only went there for dessert», it just makes me angry because that clearly shows a lack of respect for your patrons. Whether the customer spends $ 1 or $ 100, we are to be treated equally good because WE are bringing YOU business, and it is because of US that YOU are making a living.

I needed a fix for my sweet-​tooth and sticking with the theme of my Romanian date with my bestie, we went here for some Romanian desserts! Another Romanian hidden gem with Romanian desserts.
We both got a cappuccino because we needed a pick me up. The cappuccino was delicious and filled with lots of foam. Just the way I like it.
I got the Chocolada which is definitely a chocoholic’s dream. It’s layers of chocolate mousse, hazelnut mousse, and brownie encompassed in dark chocolate. Yum! So rich and decadent.
My friend got the saravina, a typical Romanian dessert. Also similar to the french pastry Baba Au Rhum. This brought back her childhood memories when she would eat it with her dad at the bakeries back in Romanian. She said it was as good as she remembered it. I, on the other hand, am not a huge fan. People just have different tastes in food and this was definitely one of those differences. It’s super sweet because it’s drenched in simple syrup and it has this strong rum taste.
Note: Just like an European place, don’t expect great service. It’s definitely a very relaxed atmosphere and they do take their precious time doing things.
